  1. You will be applying for a CR-1 or K-3 visa.

You cannot return on the visa waiver program, the I-94 will not match the one used for the K-1 visa.

If you are already married, and your spouse came to the US on a tourist visa with the intent of immigration and marriage, then he/she should return to his/her home abroad, and the I-130 (or along with an I-129f for a K-3 Visa) should be filed with the relative outside of the U.S. to avoid denial, deportation, or even being banned from re-entry to the US.

The above conditions are serious and can result in the separation of families for many years if not taken seriously.

    Thanks again.

  2. Hi i was married on a K1 visa in September. My mother took ill and i had to rush home to Scotland on xmas day, i travelled on that day so i could get back as soon as i could. I understand i am not ment to leave country but as the offices were closed i really had no choice. Can i get back into USA easy or will i be refused. Can i go i on the 90 day visa and stay. If i did what would happen. As it was an emergancy i really had to take the chance and luckily my mum is ok for now. I dont have temparary citizenship yet. What do i need to do??

    Thanks

  3. Hi i have just sent the i-765 and the i-485. The only thing i am really wanting to know is the timescale for the work permit. I was really hoping to work pretty soon. I have been in the US for 3 months and thought i had to get married and recieve my marrage certificate before i filed these forms. Please dont tell me it will be months before i can work as this would be a real problem.

    Thanks again for your answers..

  4. I entered from the UK on a K1 visa. I arrived on the 27th July and got married on the 27th September. My visa runs out on the 15th October so i need to get things moving. Thanks for your help so far and i will be back online tomorrow morning and spend the day getting everything i need done. This forum has really been great for me from the start to the finish. One other question is how long will it take me to become a US citizen?

Thanks and will be back on in the am.

  5. Hi, i am now in California and have been since friday. I was not informed about how to obtain a social security number. Will i automatically get one or do i only get one after i get married. I need to find out as i want to get a car and get insured first. Will this be possible??

    Many thanks

  6. congratulations! I'm so jealous......the journey seems so long ahead of me.

It has taken a long time. What level are you at? I would advise anyone to send for there police report right away as this was the longest thing. If i had sent for it before my medical i would have been there a month earlier.

  7. Well i got up at 4am for my 5.50 flight to Luton. Got the bus and was in London by 9.20. I thought i had remembered where the embassy was as i went there on the day of my medical. I was heading in the right direction and thought i would ask 2 policemen. They told me to turn back down Baker Street and take a left. The opposite way from the embassy. I walked about 20 feet and tourned round to see one of them smirking but as this happened a postman walked bye. He told me to go to the end of Baker Street and its right there. So never trust a policeman. Maybe cos i was Scottish lol.

Upon arriving at the embassy i joined a que which was in 3 lanes and i was the second from the left and got in really quick. When i was in i waited about 50 mins and went for my first meeting. I was worried i would be missing something but it took 5 mins and i was back waiting for the interview. I was given a form to fill out which said it could be several hours before my interview. I had not finished filling it out and i was called again. The guy was nice and took some more fingerprints and i signed a form and he asked me when me and Lisa met. Then asked when we agreed to get married and that was it. He said i will get visa within 5 days and do not open the brown envelope. It gets opened at my first piont of contact in the US. Basically i was at the que at 10.10am and out at 11.45. I waited longer in the que for the courier than i was in my interviews.

So i made it. So glad its all over. To anyone going for the interviews from my experience its a breeze. I had photos, phone records and loads of emails but he never even asked to see anything.

Right Lisa is the brains of this but i will ask the experts. What happens when i enter the US. I mean at the airport? And what do i do upon arrival. And one major thing that worried me was he said that if i leave the US before i get my green card i will not get back in. How long will this take??? Hopefully not years.

Thanks again everyone who has helped me as you have given me so much information and made the whole process so much easier.

Couple of questions if anyone knows. 1st How long till i get my social security number and 2nd do i need a Californian driving licence to buy and insure a car. If so whats the best way to get about this.

    Any input welcome.

Glad i found out about this site as i did not realise there were so many people in the same position as me. I have learned so much already and it has made me relax about the whole situation. So thanks
