Did they change your category from F1 to F2B without your request? I am asking because my son received the same message from NVC, however my his category was still under F11. So, he requested to opt out of F1 and two weeks later they changed his category. Now he is under F2B  again.

    Yes.

    I received two emailsbefor DQ.

In the first email NVC said that they will hold my case until I confirm the category F11 or F2B, in which I wish to proceed my case. Something like this.

The very next day, NVC said don't worry good samaritan. Here's your DQ. Since you have waited for so long we will help expediting your visa process. Hence it's good to keep the case in F2B category so that you can reunite with your family soon. Something like this. Just formalize the tenor.

After your petitioner becomes US Citizen, you are automatically moved to F1 category but there is a way to stop this conversion...I don’t think they will let you change category before grant  of citizenship

Yes.. they can automatically change the category only after naturalization. I applied in F2B, mom naturalized, NVC sent me a mail that they received the docs of naturalization but they are keeping my case at F2B as it will expedite the process.

7 years and counting. But apparently it will expedite the process.

Is there some place where embassies post their processing times or something ??

Susie is right. No one can predict exact time as it depends on the embassy location and immigration policies.

General timeline (based on my case) after PD becomes current and USCIS petition approved:

NVC contacts time : 60 days

    Fees approval : 2-3 days

Document submission time : Depends on you. How early you can submit those. Police clearance certificate takes time generally provided you have all the other docs.

If all the documents are okay, you will receive a DQ within 2 months.

After receipt of DQ, NVC contacts yours consulate for interview. It takes 2-3 months in my country.

So Susie is right when she said it generally takes 6 months after PD becomes current

Now with president proclamation in place, consulates are not taking interviews of banned categories (F2B, F1 being one of them). So till 31 December 2020, applicants have to wait for an interview. once the consulate resumes interview just imagine the backlog they have to clear. And quite frankly, I even don't want to imagine how much time people like me has to wait to reunite. So fingers crossed, spirits up.

Hope this ordeal soon gets over for everyone.

You have to wait for your petition to be approved. Then NVC will contact you depending on your priority date,  then you pay fees online and also upload documents online.

Yes. Only once you receive NVC case number and Invoice ID, you will be able to submit online docs.

But you can collect few of the civil docs, that can save you some time later on:

    1. Birth certificate

    2. Filling of i-864, i-864a

    3. Last three years income proofs, pay stubs etc essential to complete i-864 forms

Once your USCIS petition gets approved, and you have submitted requisite fees, apply for police clearance certificate from passport  office.

Hope you soon get your petition approved.

As far as l know, embassies are going to schedule interviews only for spouses,  children under 21 of U.S. Citizens and those who are not included in the ban. They are NOT going to schedule interviews for those categories including in the immigration ban.

    Okay. Thanks for sharing.

Also, I have read many news articles related to Trump administration visa ban/suspension. They all are mentioning bans related to H1-B, L1, F1 (student visa) and related visa categories for their dependents (like H4).

The articles doesn't talk about family visa ban/suspension. So I want to believe that there is no stopping for dispersed families to reunite.

May it be spooky Halloween or tranquil Christmas, hope we are with our families.

Hello! Does President Trump’s immigration ban also affects the interview and the process? I dont understand the immigration ban. If the embassy’s open, will they still schedule interview for those who are included in the ban? Does the ban mean that interviews will still be conducted BUT the immigrant can only enter the US after the president lifts up the ban on december 31,2020? Please explain thank you

Quite a pertinent question. I am too seeking an answer to this.

Can any good samaritan enlighten us?

Hate to say this but..... Pretty please.

  7. I second that, to what Aquarius has just said. Try to teach them on phone and get case number and invoice number.

I saw many people on this forum successfully doing that.

Btw we tried reaching them ample number of times but we're unsuccessful. Be persistent.

    All the best.

    Hi

    Hope you are fine.

Congratulations for your PD current in chart B.

Dont wait for 3 months. You can call when you get current that is 1st March, 2020. All you need just case no. and invoice no. they give you over the phone. Most of them doing that way and start the process as soon as possible no need for further waiting for Welcom letter in the mail by the time you get WL in the mail you get Documentarily qualified (take 2 months) and you are ready for interview. Hope it helps. Thanks

  8. Hi All,

My i-130 application (F2B category) got approved by USCIS Vermont on 27th November 2019. My PD is Oct 2013. The document has mentioned that NVC will contact me within 30 days. It has been more than eight weeks, I still haven't heard back from NVC

I have tried mailing them and my mom and legal advisor have tried to contact them on phone. But of no avail.

This brings me to my following queries:

Is there any way to know the present status of my case? Can the process be expedited?

    Thanks in advance.

    my daughter's F2B case:  CSC

    I-130 receipt 06/08/2012

    NOA1/PD 11/12/2013

    ..and still waiting

Does it expedite if I become a citizen? Currently an LPR of 9yrs and about to file renewal of green card. Any help I will appreciate. Thank you.

    Hi Lerma..

You should wait till your priority date(PD) becomes current. You can check it out from below link:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2020/visa-bulletin-for-november-2019.html

I am assuming your country of origin is Phillipines, as mentionion in your profile.

Presently, according to the November Visa bulletin, the PD for Phillipines country is Sept/October2009. My suggestion for you is to apply for citizenship (F1). It won't expedite the process as PD for F1 and F2B category are neck to neck. But it will surely cushion you from any changes in immigration law.

Can understand the ordeal associated with the word 'wait' but....

    Hope it helps.

  10. Thanks Aaron for the valuable info.

The USCIS letter stated that a secondary evidence can be submitted in lieu of birth certificate. Since there is a time limit of 60 days, I was bit worried. So I wanted to know of other options (secondary evidence) I can submit.

But as stated by you clearly, there is no other way around, I won't waste much of my energy on other options.

Again thanks for clearing the stuff.

    Appreciate it.

  11. Hi all..

I need an advice from you..

After inquiring of my i-130 application status from USCIS Vermont, I have been asked to submit the birth certificate or some secondary evidence. The birth certificate doesn't carry my name and hence couldn't be used to establish my relationship with the sponsor(mother).

Obtaining birth certificate/ getting it rectified is a complex procedure in my country. What all secondary evidence I can submit? Can I submit passport copy?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,

    Ankit

  12. Hello everyone,

My mother is a green card holder and she has completed 6 years in USA. My parents were sponsored by my sister who is a US citizen. My father hasn't applied for US citizenship now. My father is coming back to India for few months. In the meanwhile my mother will be called for the citizenship interview.

I want to ask two questions:

    1. Does my mother need biometrics of my father to obtain citizenship?

    2. What are the prerequisite requirements to obtain US citizenship?

    Will appreciate Your response.

    Regards,

    Ankit
