  1. Hello everyone! I’d like to know if I’m doing this right. I changed my wife and I’s address just earlier because we moved to a new house. I am currently adjusting my status here in the Untied States. I was wondering if I need to change hers as well? When I tried changing her address as well, the website said “there has already been a request for this”. So does that mean my request is for the both of us? Many thanks to those who can answer.

ITIN should not have been eligible in the last round.  Plenty of people complaining about it on here.

Makes it hard to know who is who.

If she is a USC then she should not have an ITIN and have no issue getting a bank account.

Well, I meant to say, right now I am the wife who is adjusting status. I came here on a tourist visa. My passport got expired and was supposed to be scheduled for March and April but got cancelled because of the Corona Virus. Now, we have a stimulus check under both our names but can’t deposit it in the bank because I cannot show any valid ID.

I'm guessing she got a check even tho she doesn't have a social security number?  Your other threads says she she doesn't have EAD and came in on a green card.  That's not really the definition of undocumented that is used in immigration.

Oh you mean my wife who is a USC? Sorry sir, my wife and I share the same account.

Take it to one of many shady check cashing place a, they don't even ask for ID.

That would be right, too. But I wonder where I can find those.

  4. Anyone else out here having problems with the check? My wife and I received our stimulus check but the deposit won’t go through because she is not enrolled in the bank and plus, if she endorses it to my name, they’re gonna need her ID (her passport is expired, she was gonna have it renewed last March and April but due to the Corona Virus, it got cancelled). The bank says they’ll mail it back but we don’t really know how to go from there? Any insights?

On the back of the check write "pay to the order of" then your name, she signs it and then you sign below her endorsement. Then make the deposit.

See, here’s the thing. I deposited it using the ATM, so I don’t have it with me now. And it told me to go to the bank. Would it still be possible to be endorsed? I called the bank regarding the issue and they just told me to just wait until my wife gets a new ID, which is still unclear because she cannot set up an appointment just yet and it would take two months for her to have a new one.

  6. Hello! My wife and I have a little problem. Well, months ago we were not able to have a joint account because my wife does not have a state ID and the bank does not accept her passport. Fast forward to today, her passport is expired, she used to have an appointment last March and April for passport renewal at her embassy but due to the corona virus, it was cancelled. Now we have a stimulus check, and we cannot cash or deposit it because her passport is expired. Are there any other ways to cash the check? Replies would be appreciated!

No need for a letter - just the new I-864 should be sufficient. But if you really want, it won't hurt to include a line on the cover letter (like "I-864 from XXX as replacement joint sponsor").

Sir, I just want to say.. thank you so much for answering my questions. You have saved me a lot of time!! I hope you are doing well wherever you are!

    1) Provide the full copy of the return, per the RFIE's request. This means a copy of the 1040, as well as a copy of  all W-2s, 1099s, 2555s/2555EZs, etc. used for the 1040. That's what it says to send, so that's what I would send.

    2) The copy of the most recent year's return is required. The copy of the other 2 years of returns are optional. Whether it's best to send the other 2 years or not depends on the circumstances. If the most recent year's income is decently above the minimum level and their current income is also sufficient, then the other 2 years probably don't really have much value.

If self-employed (in which tax returns are evidence of current income), showing a history may be beneficial.

If W-2 earner, paystubs + an employment letter would be best evidence of current income. The most recent year's tax return copy is required, but the other 2 years may not add much (if any) value.

Thank you so much! I appreciate you for answering this! Also, one more thing. Do I send USCIS a letter too about changing my Joint Sponsor?

  9. Hello!

This is gonna be a long post and I would gladly appreciate those who take time to read and answer my question. I recently just got a RFIE from USCIS stating the following:

    - Submit all supporting tax documents (W2, 1099s, Form 2555, and all supporting tax schedules) submitted to the Internal Revenue Service for the most recent tax year. The joint sponsor must submit all supporting tax documents for the most recent year.

Question: Do I give them a copy of my Wife and I's tax return from 2019? That's basically all we submitted to the IRS.

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Next requirement they need was a contract between my Joint Sponsor and his wife, since his wife's income is being used to meet the poverty guideline. Unfortunately, my Joint Sponsor is having a difficult time after having been tested positive with the Corona Virus. With his state and condition, I do not want to bug him with any of these requirements. I am given 87 days for this and I badly need to pass now so I decided to get another Joint Sponsor who is willing to replace the other one.

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In the letter that I got from USCIS, they also stated that if I wish to obtain a new joint sponsor, I will need to:

    - Submit a completed and signed Form I-864, Affidavit of support, from the joint sponsor.

    - Provide joint sponsor's SSN on Form I-864.

    - Provide a complete and correctly calculated household size on Form I-864.

    - Submit a complete copy of the joint sponsor's Federal income tax return and all supporting tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, Form 2555, and tax schedules) for the most recent tax year.

    - Submit evidence of the joint sponsor's status as a United States Citizen, United States National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.

As for the Assets, they're asking for bank statements covering the last 12 months. Evidence of ownership and the likes.

    Question:

-They're asking supporting tax documents for the most recent tax year. When my first joint sponsor sent the form, they were asking for his tax documents (W-2's, 1099s, etc.) for the past three years. Should my joint sponsor just follow what the letter says and send in the documents for the recent tax year? Or include the past three years?

Thanks in advance for those who answer. I really appreciate you all.

  10. Hi! I’m from the Philippines. My wife and I married last October 2018. We just filed I-485 together with the other documents last Monday. My passport expired months ago and would like to renew it. But first my country needs a ROM (Report of Marriage) before renewing a passport. My problem here is Philippines do not recognize same-sex marriage. How do I go about this? How am I able to renew my passport while adjusting my status? Can anyone enlighten me please? Thank you so much

Hey! On the same boat as you here..  The lease on our apartment includes me. I was able to open a bank account by myself without an SSN at bank of America, where I listed him as my POD beneficiary. We get mail in both of our names.  And that's it. Our utility bills are under his name because of the SSN.

Hi. What happens if my ID is expired? Is it too late to include me in her bank account?

  12. Hi. I would like to ask, what requirements did you provide for I-485? I got here as a tourist and met the love of my life. We don’t have joint bank accounts since a SSN is needed for that. All we have are pictures,  notarized letters from friends and families stating that we have a bonafide relationship, and a few cards that we got from our wedding. Does anybody have the same case as mine? Replies would be highly appreciated.
