  1. I'm someone who did just that .... and I lost my greencard even following the removal of conditions after spending too much time in England due to personal reasons and a misunderstanding with US Immigration

They are really funny about it ... and here I am now needing a greencard so I can be with my Husband and going through the process which is taking forever .... 14 years ago when I first had my card it was 6 weeks from application to having my visa in my hand .... years later and the system is just rediculous.

I certainly won't want to repeat it again

They make you jump through hoops and try to make sure that you don't just want to go and live in the US, but once you're there, you're expected to want to live nowhere else on the planet

Wait to get citizenship is my suggestion and don't even think about spending anymore time out of the US than necessary within a 6 - 12 month period .... the POE officers will come down on you otherwise ..... and can take your card off you when you land on US soil .... I know someone personally that this happened to.

They can do this when people are out of the US too much or too long and don't have 'permission' to do so :bonk:

It used to be that you could not spend anymore than 364 days of the year out of the US on a greencard .... now I'm sure they are even heavier.

There is a petition (can't remember the name) you can file with US Immigration which allows you to return around the 2 year mark, but it has to be filed and approved.

Do check every avenue on this .... I understand that it's nice to return home for a little while .... just make sure you're little trip home doesn't end up with you having to stay there .... and being separated from your spouse ..... again.

    :pop:

    Thanks!

My husband got through to the USCIS and they told him about the form. It cost 300 and something dollars, but that way we can lift conditions in Holland.

We will definitely move to Holland and we want to stay. The only reason i don't want to lose my greencard yet, is because of the risk that my husband won't get a visa for Holland. Immigration policy in my country is even worse then the USA at the moment.

We found out i am pregnant just a few weeks ago. We cannot support the baby with our incomes in this country. We can't even afford healthcare. In Holland i make twice as much money and healthcare is practically free. I understand the responses. people thinking i am crazy to give everything up i worked so hard for. But right now i just want the best for our baby.

    thanks for the responses!

  2. Hello everyone,

I hope this is the right place to post, if not mods are welcome to move.

I am living in virginia and have a CR1 visa. My adjustment of status is november 2009. I am moving back to the netherlands next month, and my husband will join me there in january next year.

Will i lose my greencard? What will i have to do to keep it? We do not know if we will move back eventually or not.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hey!

My company here in America gave me a hard time hiring me without the ssn (we applied in person and have been waiting seven weeks now). We went online right away an brought back lots of paperwork that said it is illegal to not hire someone because they are still waiting for an ssn. You do need prove that you applied for one though, theyll give you that in the office.

Your new employer can just get a temporary number for you while you are awaiting, its really not that hard and dont let them tell you other wise.

    Good luck!

  4. Hey!

I arrived in Hampton, Virginia last wednesday on my CR1 visa! Everything is going great so far, busy with the jobhunt and loving time with my husband :)

I was just curious, anyone living in my area? And anyone else interested in msn contact about our experiences in our new country?

I allready contacted a dutch group in this area, but i figured why not look on this great site that helped me through this visa process withotu strangling somebody ;)

  5. Hi guys,

We just submitted my DS230 package, my husband just told me he forgot to put in the marriage certificate...

I am thinking i might have put in too many docs anyway, but i got stuck in all the info and i really dont understand what we all even had to sent in with it, i just did everything to be better safe then sorry.

    Anyway:

    We sent this along:

    Copies of both passports

    My birthcertificate (im the immigrant)

Could anyone tell me if that marriagecert was really necessary? And if yes, what i should do now?

Thanks so much, im stressing out a lot here....

  6. Our IV bill has just been accepted today.. Hope the one of you guys gets accepted soon too!

Funny thing, my stubborn husband told the NVC operator when she said he can send the DS230 in once the coversheet will be sent, he said, dont worry ill create one myself

She got up upset, NO, YOU CANT DO THAT.

I told him he wasnt supposed to day that ;)

  7. Hey!

I've got a problem, my husband has found a "genius" answer to every arguement. I should be gratefull cos hes bringing me as a helpless Dutch woman freedom!!

Cos of course we should understand that every nation other then the States is locked behind bars and does not know any sort of freedom

What should i tell him? To ever win an arguement again???

(and no... for anyone wondering, im not serious :P)

  8. Hi everyone,

    Just adding my info,

We sent out the IV bill on august 20 and used a cashiers check. So were still withing normal waiting time.

Our automated message is still the missing info (IV bill) one. It wont change untill the DS230 is generated right? So i have to keep calling operators to know if it is received, or am i wrong?

Good luck to everyone, i hate that so far in the process those delays show up!

  9. I just checked the status of my case on NVC automated system it says that they recieved my case on August 30th and ssigned the case # and also to allow them 6 to 8 weeks to recieve "notofication" fro them

Could anyone tell me hat kind of notification is it???

    Thanks

That would be the DS3032 and the AOS fee bill. You will hear when its generated on the automated message line.

  10. For questions 1 and 3 check this thread. We just discussed both of those questions and there are info of what others have put in there...

For the questin 2, you probably mean the "A" No on question 25 (prior visits to the US) right? Since you come from the Netherlands you are under the VWP, which means that you haven't gotten a visa to the US when you've visited (unless you have, of course, studied there or equal).

Thanks for your helpfull replay, i do have a visa, a 6 months visitor one. useable for 10 years. I filled out the name of the visa (R, B1/B2), but couldnt find an A number anywhere in my passport...

There is no "A" number for visitor/tourist visa.

    futballdad

Ok, thank you so much, i can now finally sent the last papers out :)

  12. Hello everyone,

I was wondering did anybody who allready filed DS230 have trouble with explaining their educational history? Some things are so hard to explain, having another schoolsystem... I do have diplomas, but not degrees. Can i just fill in diploma in the diploma question, or do they need an explanation of what it exactly is i did? I mean, add a sheet with additional info...

    Second question:

I dont have an A number yet right? That gets asigned later in the process?

    Third one:

Will they really expect me too fill out every little job i had next to school in the past? Did other people do that? Or will just the main ones be sufficient?

Thanks in advance and best of luck to everyone waiting!

  13. Hi everyone!

We sent in the I-864 about three weeks ago. For the last week the NVC message has said that there was missing info and a letter has been sent to us requesting that info.

We just called an operator to ask what info was missing (my husband is in Holland with me, so we cant check the mail right now) and the operator said no info missing and 864 processed fine.

Anyone any idea on who to believe?

Maybe its gotta do with the fact we used shortcuts?

  14. Hi,

our IV bill (for a CR-1/IR-1 visa) was just generated yesterday. I was wondering how long will it take in general to receive it? By looking at timelines it seems to be around 10-15 days but some wait a lot longer? I'm also wondering how much it costs? I remember reading somewhere that the price was 380$ but I can't find it :(. Thanks for replies :)!

I'm new here. My IV Bill was generated July 16, 2007 but not received it yet. Waiting.
