I would move since you never know when you'll get anything. Just because the predictions on VJ say that you'll get it soon it doesn't mean that it really happens. Don't let the process predict your life.

Thank you. Do you have experience with change of address? I am uncertain that USCIS will update our address in a timely fashion.

  2. Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering to move to a different apartment, however we have not received his work permit yet. We submitted his adjustment of status application in Dec 2019, and the work permit may come anytime between now through June 2020 (estimated). Also, our lease ends at our current place at the end of June.

When submitting a change of address to USCIS, does that update in their system instantly? Or does it take some time to be processed?

We are trying to make a decision about moving or not. It would be nice to move, but not if there is a risk with USCIS processing the change of address.

    Thanks for your help!

I was in GA during the K1 limbo period just last year. You may be lucky if your temporary license is expiring within the next 30 days ie. You are already a GA DDS customer with a valid and soon to be expired temporary license and can provide his I797c I485 receipt notice. They may extend his DL for 120 days IF the agent who helps you knows the new rules. This is new, as prior when I was applicant, you needed a I797A Notice of Approval for the I485 (or EAD).

Try at a more urban location. Good luck!

Thank you! We went to DDS this morning, and they offered a one time 120 day extension for the drivers permit when my husband provided the I-797 (NOA1) for the I-485 & I-765. It costs $50, and you can't use the permit to get the drivers license until the EAD/workers permit or greencard is received.

You can however take the road test before EAD/ greencard and DDS will record the results. Once you get the EAD/greencard then you go to DDS, and request for your drivers license.

I hope this helps anyone else going through a similar thing!

    Thank you everyone!

  4. Hi Visa Journey community!

My husband just got his drivers permit last week on 1/8/2020, and the expiration date of the permit is showing for 1/25/2020 based on his K1 visa status. How does this process typically work when we are waiting for the Workers Permit/Green Card in progress with USCIS. For example, today he went for the biometrics which shows that his process is moving. Does that help him get his drivers permit renewed?

    • Entered the US: 10/28/2019
    • K1 visa expires: 1/25/2020
    • Biometrics appt: 1/15/2020

Any help or insight will be helpful!

    Thank you

  5. My fiance and I have been researching what to provide to substitute "unobtainable" police certificates. On the reciprocity schedule for Sudan, police certificates are available ONLY for those that are PRESENT IN SUDAN.

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Sudan.html

My fiance lived in Sudan for 1 year (April 2018 - April 2019), and due to the civil unrest in Sudan, he left for his safety to Uganda. He left not too long after the airways opened up again in Sudan, and commercial airlines began to come back.

Coincidentally, in May I submitted my fiance's signed Change of Address declaration to USCIS with our RFE that stated he moved for safety reasons because of Sudan's volatile climate.

Now (Sep 2019), Sudan is in a transitional government, and I think it's unwise for him to return because in Africa you never know if things are truly stable. Also we feel that the Consular Officer might think of it as a red flag if he does return to Sudan after his declaration stating that he felt unsafe there in April.

My fiance has his police certificate from the country of his nationality and also is planning to get one in Uganda too for good measure.  Should we write up a Declaration/Affidavit letter for why my fiance could not obtain his Sudan police certificate and have it notarized in Uganda? Somewhat as a substitute for the police certificate? OR - should he just go to the interview without anything for Sudan?

  6. This is a great topic. Thank you IlyaM for bringing this topic up here. All the best of luck to you, I don't think you should have issues.

Our first one was about a missed checked box and the birth certificate that we already sent... Now wait and see what they ask for... But it's such a pain having to wait almost 30 days to get another rfe...

Hi, do you have the 2nd  RFE letter yet? Or were you just notified? I am very curious because I just submitted my response to RFE (intent to marry evidence) on 5/24.

ok where will he be interviewed? will he stay at Uguada? what embassy will NVC be sending paper work?

On the I-129F we have Sudan, but we want to change his address to Uganda. I believe Kenya is where Ugandan residents have their interviews.

If we can't get his address changed, chances are it will go to Sudan :(

did you already replied to the RFE? did they respond to you already?

I have not submitted it yet, I just got the signed letter of intent to marry from my fiance, and my goal is to submit next Monday (5/13).

I am experiencing issues with technicalities. For example my fiance moved from Sudan to Uganda due to the civil unrest that has been occurring... we don't know if we should include his move Information with this RFE or not...

  10. Hi everyone!

Yesterday (4/23), I just got a RFE for my fiance to provide Intent to Marry within 90 days. We are working on drafting a signed statement letter for this.

My issue is, I had a feeling we would get a RFE, but not for this reason. I was looking through our I-129F last weekend and found different mistakes.

For example, I said that my fiance and I saw each other from Sept 7 - Oct 1 after he got his passport on Sept 27. That's a discrepancy, because he got his passport on June 27, and we were engaged Sept 27... I can't believe I messed it up.

Should I add additional evidence that they didn't ask for to correct other issues?? Has anyone done that before or have any advice??

NVC will send it based on residence as recorded on the I-129F. You can’t change that after submission. I was in a similar position and sent USCIS letters to change it and called several times. It needs to be changed at NVC. However, I-129Fs are only at NVC for about a week or so. Catching it while it’s there and finding somebody who can change it is difficult. Just keep trying.

Failing that, you would do a consulate transfer once it arrives at the consulate.

Thank you, this is helpful! I am building a game plan to achieve the consulate change with the NVC

BUT - I feel like transferring once NVC sends our case to Sudan will be problematic.

I have attached/included another forum discussion about a case in Sudan. For this couple, the NVC sent their case to US Embassy in Sudan on February 21, 2019 and they have not heard anything yet after completing the DS-160. The chaos in Sudan is most likely the cause and I want to avoid this.

I am so sorry that your fiancé is having so much upheaval in his life and for all the beautiful people of Sudan.  I think that you may want to get your Congressional representative involved or the State Department to see if there are any options for humanitarian expedite due to your fiancé's safety.  Just another option, I don't have an answer to your question about whether to let them know now or later... Much luck on this journey and safety and prayers for your fiancé.

Thank you for your prayers. If my fiance didn't have a passport, or a way out of Sudan I would follow this approach. Thank you.

  14. Today: April 21, 2019

When I was submitting the I-129F (Nov 2018), in the "Consular Processing Information", I put the Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan because that's where my fiance lived. Now for safety reasons due to the ongoing protesting and the government being overthrown last week in Khartoum, he/my fiance is moving to another country, Uganda.  We have not received the NOA2 yet, but we just hit the 5 month mark and we can see a response anytime between now and June.

I have been reading through different forum discussions and I am not sure what the steps I need to take are. Is it better to wait for the NOA2 approval, the NVC receipt, then give the NVC my Fiance's new residency address in Uganda and request for a new consulate/embassy?

I want to make sure the NVC does not send our packet to Sudan but does send it to Uganda or Kenya (where Uganda K1 cases are sent)

Me and my fiance have been contemplating how to handle this. Please provide us any advice on how to do this. Thank you!
