  1. Gosh it's been so long since I posted here. My hubby will have been in the US for 5 years at the end of May (landed May 27, 2007) status adjusted 9/29/07 (10 year green card). We've been married since June 2005.

We are looking over the naturalization forms and trying to figure out which is the best way to go. Does it matter?

And for our son (10 years old and non US citizen but 10 year green card too) do we have to file papers for him as well, or will he be able to become a citizen when my husband becomes a citizen?

Thanks for your time (and sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere and I just missed them).

  2. Yeah, I seem to have stumbled into some den of dorkdom. Huh. mellow.gif

Pfft you only wish you could attain my level of dorkiness! ;P And in a round about way, immigration lead to me playing WoW! It was the only damn thing we could do when we were stuck apart for nearly a year dealing with a heart-wrenching, international custody battle, and *then* immigration with only mildly freaked out forum posts! Ooooh I hope I peed right in your Cheerios ;P *HUG*

  3. My mother (American) told me it was proper etiquette to send invites to all family and close friends regardless of whether they could/would attend or not (apparently some people keep them in memory books? I dunno!), whereas my husband was appalled by the idea (felt like it would be rubbing salt into the wounds type deal) as his family could not attend. We solved this by only sending invites to the American side, and sending little announcement cards to the Scottish side with our wedding photo about a week afterward. "Introducing Mr and Mrs" - were wed day, time, location, etc.

Now, on our wedding invitations, we had a link to our online registry but we didn't ask for money or gifts. Like "The Bride and Groom are registered at Bonton" and their registry is accessible by keyword yadayada"

Here is an American wedding invitation etiquette Q&A: http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-plannin...-etiquette.aspx - It does say to invite everyone to be fair to your fiance ;P

  4. There is no topic! This thread is a free for all, but only if you filed for any type of visa at the London embassy during the years 2005 - 2007. Gotta keep the clique mentality that's developed in the UK forum going, ya know.

Oh I know, I filled in 2006, so I'm one of the uber, cool kids ^^ *meow*

  5. Welshcookie - completely off topic (is there a topic? lol) but on what realm do you play? i'm on thrall! if you have any horde toons there look me up, i'm a lazer turkey - Kemia, and a dk tank - Taobrotom (motorboat backwards...don't ask lol brbrbrbr)

  6. So great to see both Leney and Candace! I miss all our old friends. :)

Do pop in to see us more!!

Leney - How is the babe?? Getting big, I suspect!!

He just turned 1 last week :) He's running around like a mad man, but has been walking for the last 5 months. He's saying "mumum" and "da" and "ta" and his new word is "car" hehe It's crazy how fast they grow!

Here's a picture from their Christening in October. My digital camera battery charger is dead, so when I get the pictures back from my mother I'll have to post more recent ones of the gang.

I hope you're all doing well! The last year and a half have been pretty nuts with so much going on here. Hubby finally passed his driving test, and killed our first van lol So we had to get another. Perhaps I shouldn't have pushed him into getting his license! He has a good job and took up hunting/fishing/archery and we try to get out into the mountains as much as possible which works nicely with our 4 little guys. He's decided he doesn't feel the need to ever go back to Scotland, which sorta makes me a bit sad, since we lived there and I did love it - it was just too expensive :( I never thought I'd be the one to be more homesick than him hehe :) He does miss the food though, so I'm constantly being asked to find places to get the goodies he's craving and trying to bribe Amish butchers into getting him the proper cut of bacon (which hasn't gone so well yet and ended with "bacon" that tasted like pork chops). It's sad how things like finding a Terry's Chocolate Orange in the back corner of a CVS can make his day!

  7. If you guys n gals ever find British food stores in Maryland or surrounding states let me know, I have my poor parents sending me over tottie scone,Discos and other goodies, bought 12 bottles of Irn Bru for $26.00 online to !

I saw Jungle Jim's on the travel channel and it looks great, wonder how far Ohio is from Maryland :D

We're headed to Lancaster, PA this weekend for a possible Irn Bru siting lol A store called Britian's Best. Lancaster isn't so far from the MD border. There are a few Trader Joe's stores in MD:

http://www.traderjoes.com/Attachments/EC_loc.pdf (it'll take a while to load it's a pdf file, but it has all the locations)

    I hope this helps!

And a big hug to you ECM! I know it's been a looong while, but we haven't had a lot of time to log onto the forums. Our wee(est) guy just turned 1 year old this past week! He's running around like a mad man keeping me busy lol

  8. We're in Central PA but planning a trip to Jungle Jim's in Ohio to get some British goodies - can anyone who has been there before tell me what all they carry, we can't find a complete listing on their web site - we know they have Irn Bru and Tennents Lager (which is the selling point for the hubby lol) but we'd like to know what else we can get there. If you've been feel free to message me privately or reply here I don't mind :D Thanks so much!

  9. We are all doing great except for some flu. Our baby Keiran is walking already! Isn't that so crazy it seems like only yesterday I was posting we were pregnant lol The hubby loves it here, he's enjoying his job and hunting when he gets a chance. I get more homesick for the UK than he does. He really does seem happier here than he ever was there. Definitely the best decision we ever made :D

How are you? Congratulations on the green card btw!

  10. Hi there, I was looking at my facebook groups and saw "Visa Journey" so I thought I'd login to see how everyone is doing and wish you all a happy holiday season :D

We finally found Tennents and Irn Bru last year for Christmas so I made the hubby a very happy man ;P

  11. Thank you all for your kind words :D He is a blessing. Congratulations to those of you who have had your beautiful bundles of joy, and for those who are just finishing their pregnantjourney (teehee) hang in there, I know how much it hurts! lol And for those of you who are just starting, it is the most wonderful thing any person can experience, treasure every minute, even when you can't sleep anymore and you pee when you sneeze, it's all precious and the joy of bringing a child into this world in love and light is indescribably wondrous.

  12. Hiya :D It's been a while since I've had time to post unfortunately - but I just wanted to share :D On March 12th (16 days early) my water broke and we went to the hospital and 5 hours later we had a gorgeous little boy Keiran Joseph. He was 6lbs 10oz and 20 2/3 inches long. I think this is the final addition to our family, though I still wish we could be guaranteed a girl if we tried one last time (since we have 4 boys now lol).

    Forgot to add:

    Labour & Delivery Story:

    This was my third pregnancy/delivery.

My hubby and I decided to enjoy each other's company (as married folk do lol) and immediately afterwards my water broke, and we rang L&D and they told us to come in right away to make sure it was amniotic fluid. We got to the hospital at 11pm and the contractions only just started. We went up to the 5th floor and checked into the hospital. The contractions were mild and only 7-10 minutes apart at first. They hooked me up, checked me (only 2cm and thick), tested the fluid, then admitted me. I was allowed to walk around, which I did for about 30 mins. They rechecked me and I was 4cm and still thick. By then the contractions were getting to be a bit ouchie, so I asked if I could go into the shower. She said "Not until 2:30am, we want you on the monitor a while" so I laid there breathing through waiting patiently for 2:30am - 2:30am came and they said "well give us 10-20 more minutes then you can get in the shower" Finally at 3am they let me in the shower and I stayed there until nearly 4am - when I got out, the contractions were horrible, the most painful I've ever experienced and every 2 minutes. It was to the point where I couldn't tell when one ended and one began. They rang the doctor and told him to come in and that I was now at 7cm and he said "I have time, I'll be there in about 30 minutes." Well, he didn't make it there in time, at 4:20 my body started pushing on its own, and the nurses were so sweet they said "do whatever you need to do, doctor or no doctor" and in two pushes, my sweet little boy was out and screaming at the world. There was no time for any sort of pain medication (thankfully) so like my other deliveries, it was 100% natural, drug free and the most horrific pain yet! But it was so worth it :D

  14. Hiya folks, it's been a while since I logged in here, but we've been a bit busy! On March 12 we had our newest addition (16 days early) - Keiran Joseph

    He was 6lbs 10oz and 20 3/4 inches long.

I hope everyone is doing well and all the folks we were cheering along have since made it safely to the states and all you new folks are plucking along (you'll be here sooner than you think and then a year passes faster than you can ever imagine once you do get here hehe ;P)

    Lots of love!

  15. Getting British visas used to be a very quick process - a short trip to NY, and it was done in 1-3 hours.

My husband and I married in the USA, he went home, and we weren't sure if I was moving there or he was moving here, when we decided we started the immigration process to the USA.

You don't really need a visa to come here and marry if you don't intend to settle here. I don't know what the time lime for getting UK visas is anymore, but contact the UK embassy in New York to find out.

    Best of luck!

  16. little crates (oh with holes and food and toilets of course, maybe some Dish tv, jacuzzi even?) and send them back from whence they came.

crate = airplane (look it up - generally military slang for a troop carrier - my hubby and best friend and brother in law all served in the british army and believe it or not, after being around them for years, i've picked up quite a bit of their slang, you should see what i call women who cut me off whilst driving)

Sorry, but what the hell is inhumane about what I said? Did I say kill them? Throw them into a lake of fire? No, I said take them home. Because you interpret it the way you want, don't cry on my shoes and call a witch hunt.

  17. On the flip side it would be a stroke of genius to go in offering this, get a bunch of locations of illegals, then pack them up in little crates (oh with holes and food and toilets of course, maybe some Dish tv, jacuzzi even?) and send them back from whence they came. But I suppose that would be too harsh for the bleeding hearts. Boo. hoo.

It'll never happen. This country is still mostly good, people like you are the exception.

Excuse me, but you are mistaken. It already does happen...frequently. Ever heard of an airplane? Ever heard of ICE's program of repatriating groups of Mexican illegals deep into the interior of Mexico so as not to make it easy to EWI so easily again? Crate 'em up...move 'em out. Adios!

I guess Americans ain't "good people". But we still treat our detained illegals infinitely more humanely than Mexico does or ever will treat their illegal aliens. ;)

Wow ... what a fuss about an airplane .. so what if it has holes (windows) :hehe:

    Main Entry: airplane

    Part of Speech: noun

    Definition: aircraft

Synonyms: aeroplane, aircraft, airliner, airship, clay pigeon, cloud buster, crate*, jet, kite*, plane, ramjet*, ship*

    * = informal or slang

    Crate - Slang for Airplane

*sigh* thank you for not reading into what I said, and actually posting a dictionary entry. I swear people around here are just gagging for a fight - yes crate is slang for airplane (next time I'll say a luxury air liner with the best accommodations as not to offend the crying club), but taking it out of context and going off on one just makes me realise how ignorant and rediculous the people around here really are. I've been accused of being inhuman and a nazi and a bad american, and told to "f off" because some people don't take two seconds to stop, think, read, and interpret. I realise English isn't everyone's first language, and I realise we don't all speak the same slang, but for fecks sake some people need to grow up.

  18. I guess not being related to, married to, friends with, or providing a home for an illegal immigrant must disqualify me from any sort of say. I think you will find there are more people in this country who are sick of this #######, than there are people with 200 illegal aliens living in their tool shed.

No, it's not that. Wanting to put fellow human beings in little crates is what disqualifies you.

I'm so glad you are able to take what I say out of context, it makes you incredibly adept at being a giant fanny. You mean put humans who are breaking the law, laughing at our country, and doing worse than that while there here, on a trip home with jacuzzi's, dish tv, and food and water - guess that bit doesn't look so good when you're trying to put me down.

People who break laws are punished, if being sent home is punishment - again boohoo. Giving them free run of the country for not being able to follow the laws is not acceptable to me, or most normal people.

  19. Oh why by all means, let's just open the borders to all n'er do wells, let's just give everyone a free pass into the country, and maybe we can set it up so Oprah will give everyone a free hybrid vehicle upon entry, and blank checks from the federal government. And then let's mandate that every day at noon we all stop whatever we're doing and give the person next to us a huge hug and say "I'm so happy you're a human" Maybe we can switch the national anthem to the Carebear theme song. Let's all sh*t sunshine and lollipops because that will obviously make the USA a better place!

Ok, so you're adept at the art of sarcasm. I get it.

That still doesn't change the fact that wanting to put illegals in "little crates" (your words, not mine) betrays your fascist instincts. I am happy to say that this is one instinct that isn't shared by most of our fellow citizens.

With all due respect, go f yourself.

Thanks for the offer but I don't need to "f" myself, my husband seems quite adept in that field. It's so amazing to me, because I'm not an illegal immigrant, or a supporter of illegal goings-on within the States, you want to vilify me. It's a bleeding trip! I can go up to Buffalo and sneak across the border if it makes my opinion more valuable.

I guess not being related to, married to, friends with, or providing a home for an illegal immigrant must disqualify me from any sort of say. I think you will find there are more people in this country who are sick of this #######, than there are people with 200 illegal aliens living in their tool shed.

  20. With my last pregnancy, I dropped a lot of weight the whole time, then gained at the end, but I kept saying "I'm barely eating I don't know how I've gained weight". I left the hospital 21lbs lighter than when I entered, and I had a waist! lol It was brilliant :) The younger you are, the faster your body bounces back. Don't worry too much - plus if you're planning on breast feeding, that really helps you burn calories.

  21. Oh why by all means, let's just open the borders to all n'er do wells, let's just give everyone a free pass into the country, and maybe we can set it up so Oprah will give everyone a free hybrid vehicle upon entry, and blank checks from the federal government. It'll never happen. This country is still mostly good, people like you are the exception.

lol "people like you" That's rich. You mean people who like me who work two jobs, own my own home, own my own vehicle, pay taxes, raise my children to work hard, respect authority, be decent, honest, young men. People like me who go out of their way to volunteer within my community. People like me who are fed up of people sucking the life out of this country. Yes thank heavens there aren't more people like me around. Maybe things would actually get done in this country.
