My lawyers said not to. Technically, once they stamped on your passport at POE, you're LPR even without the green card but if you exit the country a very short period after POE and re-enter without GC, you may be questioned about your intention to permanently live in the US. This suspicion will be greater if you land and leave the US on a single day especially. Again, technically you're LPR with you passport without GC but they may question your intention heavily and LPR status can be revoked. My lawyers' advice was, the best is to stay in the US until your GC arrives and re-enter next time with GC. At least stay in the US for some significant amount of time if you have to reenter with your passport without GC.
I think your lawyer is being overly scared.
Once they stamp the GC on you passport for a year, you are officially a GC holder. They cannot question you intent as you can always defend that you are disposing of property and stuff.
I think it's a common thing to get the stamping done at border POE and go back. I did that and never had any issues.

Hi I have few questions, I like to cross the sweet grass border, what all questions they would ask? Is it O.K to come back on the same day back to Alberta? I am going to fly to Florida in January, want my kids to finish their school year here in Canada. How long they can be out of United States continuously after they entered once? Please let know.
They didn't ask anything to me at the border. They just processed it and done and asked if i had any questions.
You can come back to Canada right away if you want.
You will have 1 year stamping on the passport and if you didn't get the GC, i think you have to enter within 1 year.
-
Just a little Off topic question if anyone knows:
I just got the GC in July 2019 but i am living in the US under TN visa for the last 3 years.
For US Citizenship, does the time spent in US under TN Visa count as well?
Someone told me you can count that time to qualify for US Citizenship as i was physically in US (30 months in 5 years). Is that correct?

Is it ok to enter through carway border or any other border?
Carway border is very small and they were having internet connection issues.
I went to Sweet Grass border. Its bigger and faster.
But is "First IN First OUT". Be there before 8AM in the morning and you will be the 1st one to be processed and be done in 30 mins.
If you go later on in the day, you will have to wait couple of hours before your turn.

Hi all, here's an update on my case:
As you may know, I was not able to attend my initial interview in April, was able to finally reschedule for July 2nd (
- - Interview scheduled for 7.30AM
- - Lined up at the embassy by 6.45 and was #2 in line
- - They started letting people in by 7.35AM
- - Front person checks your passports and immigrant visa interview confirmation
- - You are let in, through security check, similar to airport security check (my phone was stored and checked in with them until I left the consulate) - no bagpacks, no food, no drinks, etc.
-
- You are escorted down to the 'basement' where you are handed your number with instructions to organize your documents in a specific order (here's what I remember)
- Passport
- photos
- Medical
- Birth Certificate and translation
- Marriage Certificate
- Police certificate(s)
- Income Tax Return (however they never asked for it)
- You wait until the room is filled with enough people, then take an elevator to the 19th floor to the interview area
- You are seated until your number is called, first window person asks for the original documents above and for me they asked for a recent Job Offer
- Once all documents are provided, fingerprints are taken, address is verified, and then you are seated again
- I waited another 15-20mins until we were called in for the actual interview
- Interview lasted 10-15mins (my case was complicated so it took longer than usual) - started with an oath, signed letter that I'll be working for the employer once I land, etc.
-
Questions asked for my EB2 case:
- Who's your petitioner?
- What is your role title (was not asked for role description)?
- What is your salary?
- Location of your work
- Countries you visited in the past 5 years
- Your highest education - and majors for both bachelors and masters
- What university (both masters and bachelors)
- Talk to me about the countries you lived in since 16 years old - and under what visa (i.e. student/F1 visa in US, etc.)
- What was the last time you were in the States, date you left, etc.
- Wife was then interviewed, similar questions
- Both were given the green paper slip (approval) - passports were taken and they mentioned they'll be provided back to us in two weeks
Wish you all the best. Be patient, even though Montreal is slow in processing employment based applications, it will all be good! Once your I-140 is approved, your 'technically' only attending the consulate as a formality.
Please share your experience with crossing over the Border/POE with the sealed package the 1st time.
Thanks in advance.

how did you choose expedite shipping?
Was it when you register your appointment? is there an extra fee?
Appreciate your answer.....
Once you get the interview letter, there is instructions to register for shipping.
Its $20 per person for expedite.

How was your interview? I remember you used to posted on Trackitt in the NVC chat. Glad to see your case has moved along and you weren't effected by the retrogression!
it went well. I was there @ 6:45 AM and was 1st in the line and was all done by 8:30 AM.
Just a bunch of questions of my job. Thats it.
An hour after i left, the status changed to "Issued" but waiting on Administrative Processing. Couple of hours later it changed to Final Processing.
I opted for expedite shipping and i will be receiving the passports tomorrow in Edmonton, Alberta.
It was pretty quick.

You already got the manufacture letter.
The officers at the border will check the VIN and you fill a couple of forms.
Once done, they will stamp it and you take that to a DMV to register.
Some states need a Level 2 inspection with the DOT and a emission test to register.

Once again ...............
I drove to the Sweet grass border AB/MT and presented the border agents the packets and told them i came for the 1st entry. They sent me inside and another officers processed it within 20 mins. That is it. They don't care if you go back or front. It's common to drive to the border for stamping and go back. This is where you are officially a permanent resident and you can enter and exit whenever as you like.
I went back to Canada right away within 30 mins. I actually got pulled in by the Canadians officer and i had to explain everything on why i was at the border.
I drove to US again from the Lynden border BC/WA with my US plated car and towing another US plated car and both full will stuff till the roof. No issues, other than the officer making sure these cars are mine.
Since you do not have a GC yet, just say you just got the permanent residency and the visa is stamped in the passport and you are moving.
