  1. Hi, so I'm looking for someone to help me. My husband and I applied through a K1 visa for my green card or Adjustment of Status in December of 2019, in April of 2020 I checked the status of my case online and it said that it was ready for an interview but it's been almost two years since and I haven't heard back from the USCIS. I am renewing for the second time my combo card but I'm getting a little bit anxious about not having my interview yet. I Live in California and I honestly don't know which one is my office. But if anyone have any experiences or suggestions please let me know. Also, I tried to call the USCIS but I only get to the audio message. Does anyone know of a phone number that I can call so I can speak to a representative and not just a machine? Thank you!!

    1. No, SSN is issued for life. If you misplaced the card you can use this form to get a replacement, but other than that put no on #14 and leave #15 blank.

    2. Not in the meaning of this form. For this form "travel document" means that you entered US last on something other than a passport (e.g. refugee travel document, or some form of WHTI document). Leave that part (21.c. and 21.d.) blank.

For 24, put down what visa you entered on last of if you entered on AP put down "Parolee (AOS Advance Parole)". For current immigration status, put down "pending I-485".

    3. Leave blank, you are not applying for a re-entry permit.

Do I need to send again Two RECENT passport color photos with A-Number written on the back like I did before?

Yes, EAD and AP initial and renewal applications are free if you have a pending I-485. Only things you need to submit are:

    1. Form I-765

    2. Form I-131

    3. Copy of I-485 receipt notice

    4. Copy front and back of the previous combo card

The answer to that question is no. Re-entry permit (I-327) and Refugee travel document (I-571) are passport-like booklets issued respectively to permanent residents who might want to leave US for more than 1 year but less than 2 years, and to people granted asylum, refugee status, permanent residents who got their status via asylum/refugee status, or in exceptional cases people with pending asylum applications for brief travel abroad. They can be used in lieu of a passport for international travel in some cases (most countries will accept a refugee travel document, only some will accept a re-entry permit). USCIS wants you to return them to them before they issue you a new one.

Thank you for all the help. I feel bad asking more questions. I think these are my last questions. They are a little bit dumb but I just want to be 100% sure:

    Form I-765
    1. Does my SSN expires as well as my combo card? Do I have to apply for another one or the question below is just for new applications?

    image.jpeg.d33ec28e1e4767c9d34d446b23f641f7.jpeg

    2. Is my AP a travel document? Should I use the number of the document here? And I don’t know what to say in question 24 and 25 (picture below).

    image.thumb.jpeg.8642fc0b5c8d0863c04b8daed1db2acf.jpeg

    3. And I don’t know what to say in this section either.

Filing Form I-485 with Forms I-765 and I-131

If you properly file Form I-485 and pay the required fees, you may file Form I-765 and Form I-131 without paying additional fees. You may file these forms together, or if you choose to file Form I-765 or Form I-131 separately, you must also submit a copy of your I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence that you filed and paid for Form I-485.

There is no such question/box on the 2 forms. USCIS will figure it out based on the I-485 receipt notice copies (1 per form). On I-765, "Renewal of my permission to accept employment." box is selected and "(c)(9)( )" is the category.

So I am filling up my form I-131 and there is a section that is asking me: ''Have you ever before been issued a reentry permit or Refugee Travel Document? (if ''yes'' give the following information for the last document issued to you)'' So I am going to say yes but there is a section that says disposition, in that section should I write ''attached'' since my combo card is not expired yet and send my original card or should I write attached and send a copy of the card?

    Send both forms again.

However, when filing, I believe there is a box that asks if you have a pending petition. Check that box so that you do not have to pay again.

Include a copy of your I-485 receipt.

  7. Hello, My Advance Parole and EAD card (combo card) will expire in May 2021. And I don't have my AOS interview appointment yet. I read that I don't need to pay a fee to renew my combo card so I want to make sure that's true and also, I will like some help with the steps to renew my combo card. What do I have to do/ send to renew it? Do I send again the Form I-131 and Form I-765?

Also, do I have to tear off the original document  were my combo card came from the first time, or can I send a copy? It is the paper that says '' tear-off portion that should be included with your application(s) to help speed up the process''

Thank you so much for all your help.

    You sound well prepared.

Definitely stay together in the line.  In our experience crossing the US/Canada land border with my husband's AP, it went smoothly when we were together, and he was harassed a bit when he crossed alone.

    Thank you!

When I had AP and I came back to the US, they sent me to a special room in which they were checking my paperwork. Just don't worry if this happens; it's normal. I don't know if they send everyone or they randomly send people to that.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Thank you!

  9. Hello, My husband and I flew to Mexico to visit my family. He is American and I’m Mexican with an advance parole that I will be using for the first time so I have a couple of questions... I’m really nervous about my way back to the United States so I brought with me some paperwork that can help me if something happens but I have some questions...

    1. Can my husband stay with me in the visitors line going through customs (at the American border) even though he is American? He wants to stay with and make sure I’ll be ok.
    2. My passport has my maiden name since Mexico doesn’t change names when you get married but we filed my paperwork and advance parole with my married name and that’s making me nervous because they don’t match. I’m bringing my marriage certificate that says my maiden and married name. Would that be enough or do I have reasons to be worry?
    3. Also, any advices in what to do going through customs or paperwork that I might need besides my advance parole?

Thank you so much for taking the time to reading and helping me. I want to have a good time visiting my family but I’m getting really nervous about my come back to the u.s.

  10. Hi! So I live in California wih my husband and four weeks ago we filed my adjusment of status, I came in to the country with a K1 visa. I know the process for the AOS  can take a long time but it's been four weeks and I haven't received my first NOA. So I don't know if they got my package. Since today is saturday I'm waiting until monday to call and ask but as it is right now I will like to hear if anyone has a case like mine. I'm feeling a litlle bit discouraged and thinking that my process is going to take a long time.

You did the right thing. By using your new name, you will have an ID with the new name. And then you can start changing on all other documents.

Thank you sooo much for the help!!

You did the right thing. If you had filed for AOS in your maiden name it would have cost you over $500 to change the name on the greencard later on. You saved yourself both trouble and money by using your new name. Now, if you want to, you can change your name in your home country too. That way you can get a new passport in your new name if you want to.

If you're planning on flying abroad, make sure the plane ticket is in the same name as your passport. Those two documents must always match. Doesn't matter that your greencard is in your new name. Bring your marriage certificate as proof of name change just in case.

Thank you so much for your help!! I was really nervous! 😅

  12. Hi! So I’m from Mexico and I went through the k1 visa to come into the states to get married to now my husband. Before getting married we talked about me changing my last name into his name because it was one of the things that we wanted to do. So when the time came I didn’t really think things through and we changed it in our marriage certificate. Last week we applied for my AOS and when I was filling up the forms I use my new legal name (my husband’s). But now my friends are telling me that I did wrong because all my Mexican papers are with a different last name so when I come back into the country is going to be difficult. My question to you guys is, did I do wrong? Since I’m not American should I just keep my birth last name? I’m really nervous because this process is been long and expensive and I don’t want to messed it up because of my new last name. Please help me and explain to me how things work if anyone have some experience in this. Thank you!! Blessings!
