Once you have your parent here - do they qualify for Medicare? do they get permanent residency - aka a form of the green card if not the green card itself?
or do they go thru the same things we did - conditional residency for 2 years and then permanent residency?
i've looking everywhere for this information but thought i'd also post here.
thanks in advance

awesome thankyou!!
i just read it and yay im already eligible!!!

HI there,
just to be clear .... i want to apply for US citizenship (granting that my home country Australia allows it, which im sure they do) - does the permanent residency card - green card - also include the two years prior to that before getting the permanent residency card ie - the conditional one that we have for two years?
if the USCIS changed it to 3 years, i qualify this year for the citizenship option - but if i can do it sooner - the better!!
thanks in advance.

thankyou!! that answers my question nicely ....

I know i have to become a US citizen in order to bring say a parent over to live here - but im wondering that once filed what is the waiting time for them to approve said petition?
-
ok but can i apply for citizenship earlier then that?
also is there another visa that my mom can apply for that will grant her residence here?
-
i've been a green card resident for almost 2 years, i have to renew my card in august next year.
how long do i get that new card for, and also how long before i can apply to become a citizen in order to petition for my mom to come over and live here?
thanks in advance!!

i have to wait till i get the us citizenship otherwise all i've done will have been for nothing ........
then we'll decide what we're going to do ....
so i have to renew my green card next year (2 years will be up) do i get to apply for citizenship then or do i have to get yet another green card for whatever time that is?
-
ok so if i apply for us citizenship, will i lose my australian citizenship altho i have it thru birth? i was borne in australia
and thankyou for all your information it is greatly appreciated!!!
-
just one other thing ... i already have my green card which i have to renew next year for 10 years .... so if i were to move now do you think that everything i've done will still have been done for nothing?
also if my daughter is australian citizen by descent, can she still be american citizen also aka dual citizenship?
-
thanks kaffy!!!

-
hi everyone
ok i moved to the Usa to marry my fiance in 07, we are happily married and have a 7 month old daughter ...
now my question is this ... if we choose to return to australia to live what is the process we have to go thru? for my husband and daughter? i know they both have to get US passports (they dont have one) ....
i was thinking about calling the australia consulate in australia ..... as i know i'd probably get a more informed answer?
thanks in advance.

filing for the Aos you need to have a medical if more then a year (i think it is from memory has passed) this is only if its your fault .. and not immigration taking their time getting back to you with an appt date ...
i hope this makes sense.
-
i think you have time to file since you got married within the 3 months that the I-94 allows ... (expiry date)
but saying that i'm not sure .... see my hubby and i got married in the 3 months we were allowed and filed before the I-94 expired .... that was a year ago lol .....
-
how much is it to renew for the 10 years?
and its form I-90?

amazing you were able to get thru to the consulate ... when i did it - it was all automated....
-
the medical is sent directly to the consulate but ask that doctor to give you a copy of it
the certificate comes in the mail to you (or your fiance - whoever asked for it) - i was in NSW ....
