  1. Thanks! I don't like the idea of taking time off from work. The nearest facility for an Infopass is 1.5 hours away. Oh boy .... again thanks for sharing this with me.

I hear you about taking the time off from work. It is a 2+ hr drive each way for us, and I had to go for two Infopass appointments (for travel purposes) during the 20 months it took this process to be done.

    Best of Luck!

  2. Today we received the letter for my husband's Biometric Appointment. The last letter of his last name is incorrect. It was correct on the NOA 1, but for some reason they got it wrong for his Biometric Appointment. Is this a problem? What's the best approach to fixing the error?

    Thanks.

Please see my time line about getting the typo corrected. Personally, I would not depend on the correction being made at fingerprints (did not work, although the staff assured it was in the system), but would make an Infopass appointment to take care of this. For me, it took a total of 20 months from the time the initial application was sent off, to get a card with the correct information on it.

I did not have to pay for the correction of the green card because a copy of original form could prove it was their error. But, it took 5 months to correct one letter.

  3. I am posting this in Off Topic to see if anyone here has written a sponsor letter for a diversity visa recipient. If you have, could you please share what you know of the responsibilities/obligations? Does this type of sponsorship also involve an affidavit of support like you would submit for spousal visas?

    Thanks!

  4. I filed in June to remove conditions, at this time they sent me the biometrics appointment which I went to but then I heard nothing at all since. My work requires me to have a valid greencard so I had to make an info pass appointment with USCIS in order to try and get a years extension on my greencard until my 10 year is processed. What should I take? I have never had an info pass appointment before. Do I just show up with me and my card? or so I need to take evidence in with me?

    Thank you for your time

Did you not receive a NOA which is also a year's extension?

As for the appointment, I would take your passport, the expired PR card, a copy of application you lodged, and any notices you have received from USCIS regarding this application - including the fingerprints notice with notation it was completed.

    Good Luck!

  5. Thanks for posting the update! It is good to know CSC does work on the I-90s.

The officer at my infopass appointment said they were working on my I-90 and that I should get a new card in the near future. That was about 7 weeks ago. But, it is only about 4 months from filing.

Flying back recently from a trip overseas, the immigration officer asked if I lost the PR card that I had to file an I-90. When I explained there was an error in my name, he went "Really! The government actually made a mistake???" He also said if he had a dollar for everytime the government made a mistake, that he could have retired early. I was glad to get an officer who had a sense of humour and recognized the goof-ups :-)

  6. Keep trying for the appointments. You might get lucky and find new openings because of cancellations.

My 10-yr card had my name misspelt. The I-90 was received in CA in early May. Not a peep since then. When I went in for a stamp in July, Chicago office gave only a 60-day stamp saying the application is being processed and I would receive the replacement card soon. It's been about 6 weeks since then with nothing new. When you make it to the appointment, try and get a one-year stamp.

    Good Luck!

  7. I have been looking over the USCIS web site for a legal definition of IR 1 status. Maybe I am not searching the right way! If anyone knows of a link without having to search for it, I'd really appreciate your help. I need to take a printout just to be on the safe side, for travel purposes.

<rant> I went back to Chicago this week to get a stamp that my I-751 is approved (although they messed up the name). The officer cancelled my previous 1-yr stamp (with the pending I-751 notation), but gave only a 60-day stamp with IR 1 notation  I did not think to take the memo that says we are eligible for a 1 yr stamp because I already had a 1-yr stamp. He said it looks like my I-90 is being worked on and that I should receive it soon. But, he was also clueless about Nebraska filers being transferred to CA, that I do not trust what he said.

The I-751 has now cost us an added $100 dollars in travel/mailing costs and in the loss of two days off my annual vacation leave. It is amazing that USCIS is basically not accountable to anyone (other than the court system maybe!) </rant>

    Thank you!

  8. I had to reschedule my fingerprints for I-751. That was definitely the least painful part of I-751 for me! Just sent the appointment letter back with a note saying "I would appreciate a new date after xx/xx/xx." It was rescheduled for 2 weeks later from the original date (in Indianapolis).

But, as Cherr says, you would need to be in the country when the appointment letter comes, so that you can request a reschedule.

    Good Luck!

  9. "You can't make false statements," Trump tells PEOPLE exclusively. "Rosie will rue the words she said. I'll most likely sue her for making those false statements – and it'll be fun. Rosie's a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie."

This is the pot calling the kettle black!! Trump probably did not like it that Rosie did not roll over and die when things got ugly.

To be fair, Rosie's old show was not that bad. On the othe hand, Trump does go on my list of wacko celebrities....And he should be the last person to comment on another person's physical appearance :whistle:

  10. Paid a little over $1900 per ticket in early June. Some days later the fares for our route went up by 15%. That's a chunk when raised from what we paid. The same route cost about $950 thirteen years ago. I am bracing myself to pay close to $3K at some point in the not-too-distant future.

  11. Have not, and will not change my last name. Why? Because I am an old-fashioned woman. Traditionally, many women in my culture retain their family names. I will not do something my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother did not do. LOL.....

Seriously, it has nothing to do with respecting your SO etc etc. This is who I am, what I have been, and will be professionally. Besides, I have a fairly uncommon last name I have no wish to give up. If folks in the US have trouble pronouncing it, it is their problem (they have to just pronounce everything as seen!), not mine  The two of us are in agreement about this, and that is all there is to it.

  12. Hi

This is my first post here, I didn't quite know where to put it, so I put it here.

My conditional green card expires on 08/18/2008. I am travelling to Canada by car for 2-3 days in July.. I am only 15 and I will be travelling with a US citizen that is not my family. Am I gonna have any problems with coming back? Thanks in advance

Your green card is still valid when you return (if you are going for only a few days as you say), and will allow you to re-enter the country.

But, Motu is correct. You are a minor crossing the border without your parent(s)/guardian(s). A lot of countries require written permission from parents/legal guardians if they are not travelling with the child. Check into this before you travel.

Here is a Canadian site: http://www.voyage.gc.ca/main/before/faq/ch...n_travel-en.asp
