My partner is here on the K-1 visa, and we married a little over a month ago. We applied for a Social Security card 16 days ago, but have not yet received it. I'm almost done with all the paperwork for the adjustment of status, and the i-485 and i-765 are asking for the social security number if available. I'm wondering if we should wait until the SS card arrives in the mail before sending this off or should I send it in now and leave it blank (and maybe add a note that we are still waiting for the number)? Can I send the number in to them when we get it in a few weeks? Like can I update them somehow?
Thanks!
Did SS tell you they were issuing a card? We applied in person for a SS# after we got married and before we filed the status adjustment and was told they wouldn't issue a card without a status adjustment.
Filed, got the reciept back that our file was accepted by USCIS. Went back to SS and they still didn't issue.
