  1. I am planning to visit the philippines next year but i am worried about the names on my passport and greencard. My passport is still valid until 2012 but it is still under my maiden name. Has anybody used their passport under maiden name and went back to the US presenting their greencard under their maiden name recently? Will I have any problem with the immigration entering back to US? What do I need to do? I planned to get a new passport under my married name to prevent any problem but i learned that i an only get it if i apply personally in washington, dc. i live in georgia so it will be impossible for now for me to go to DC.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    thank you.

  2. My fiancee had her gown custom made in Cebu. She had no problems trying it on as long as I'm not seeing her in it. I bought the rings here. Mine was cheap because I prefer durable metals to precious metals. Her's is platinum, and I don't recall seeing platinum in the Philippines in the malls. It's even rare in my hometown because of the cost.

I brought my wedding dress from the philippines. I put it in the box where they normally put the gown and brought it basically as my "carry-on" luggage so you dont need to mess up the dress by putting it inside a suitcase. A family friend made the dress and it was beautiful with lots of beads, which are all hand-made. And my dress is still cheaper than my husband's suit since we got it from the US. If only I know his size before i came, I would have gotten it from the phils as well. We got our beautiful wedding band from the phils as well and it is cheaper compared to the prices here.

  3. Did you read the instructions? http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-751instr.pdf

    1. Two passport-style photos for applicants and dependents, regardless of age.

It's on the bottom right of the first page. that is where the requirements start. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just thought i would ask the question. Hope this helps.

Yes I did read it and I understand that it is only required for those in the military though i want to make sure if somebody submitted the photos even they are not in the military.

    thanks for the advice.

  4. Hi people,

I just want to ask if there is anybody here that already applied for an extension to stay in the US for their parents.

My mother has her tourist visa when she entered in the US in Sept. She is allowed to stay till March, basically 6months. However, I want to extend her stay since she is helping me with my first born baby. If I apply, is there a maximum stay of extension, e.g. 6 mos? HOw do I apply?

    I need advices.

    Thank you as always.

  5. hi VJers,

i am about to file my application of removal of the conditional status of my residency. I read that a sworn affidavit is needed from 2 people who know me and my husband. Are his parents, sister or any relatives acceptable or should it be non-relative at all? Does the affidavit need to be notarized?

    thanks for any advice.

  8. Hi peeps,

I already got my EAD card in the mail today but they put wrong issued dates and expiration dates on it (i.e., Jan. 19, 2007 and Jan. 18, 2008, respectively)...my card has already expired before i was approved, hehehe...anyways, i will call uscis tomorrow to know the remedy...it is somehow frustrating that we need to wait again for the re-issued card.

one more thing...i got these emails from CRIS...

    1. Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

    2. Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.

On January 30, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

With these emails, does this mean that i am now approved with no interview??? what does ADIT in email #2 mean?

    Thanks.

    Bottom line for you....

  :dance:Congratulations!

Nov had her Green Card about a week after we got those notices from USCIS

Thanks for the greetings...my spirit is somehow uplifted since after I talked with the USCIS, he advised me to file the application form again and just indicate the mistake that the USCIS made to waive the fee. who knows how long this will take again...grrr...ive been waiting for the EAD so atleast i can apply for my learner's permit. Need to practice more driving before atleast i get a job. oh well, i hope i would get the gc by next week.

    thanks again for the support.

  13. Hi all,

I knew I read about this somewhere but i cannot find it...I just want to know what is now my status when my I-94 expires in Dec 22 but already mailed my AOS packet last week...

    thanks.

Please reference Section 1.1 of the Manila Embassy K1 Visa Guide.

    Hi Sheriff,

I cant exactly tell from Sect. 1.1 the status between expiration of I-94 and AOS approval. Does this mean that it is statusless???

    thanks.

  14. I read this from some posts regarding application of state ID/drivers license..."download print-out of a DMV regulation stating that a state ID can be issued while awaiting for the finality of the AOS/greencard".

Can somebody give me a link so I can understand it???

Thank you so much...I am so pissed today not getting a learners permit with their reason that I cant understand...

  15. I'd just like to share my experience in getting my learner's permit...

THe drivers dept service office here in GA did not let me to get a learner's permit..they are insisting that i am not eligible to apply for one since i am under the temporary employment thing...i said i am not under that category since i came here in a K1 visa....i even showed her the information i got from their website that non-US citizens can apply for one by presenting one of the ff immigration docs which is one is the unexpired I-94...the date indicated in my I-94 is dec 22, 2007...meaning it is not expired yet...i told her that i got married already and i got all my papers sent to the uscis...but she still insists that temporary employment thing and that i need to present an "extension letter"..what the heck is an extension letter for us under the K1 visa? i would greatly appreciate if somebody can enlighten me on this and can help me on how this works...

having said this, does this mean that i need to wait for my EAD card or Greencard to apply for just a learner's permit???

    thank you very much!

  16. Correct. Put his current annual income on line 23 and support this with a letter of employment and the last 3 pay stubs. And then report the adjusted gross income for 2006, 2005, 2004 as provided in item 25 of the I-864 and support this with copies of his Form 1040.

By the way, providing copies of Form 1040 for years 2005 and 2004 is optional. We chose, however, to provide the last 3 years of ITR or Form 1040 to avoid any possible RFEs.

Thanks a lot...we sent the AOS package this morning...hope ill be as lucky as you are guys!

  17. In the affidavit of support (I-864), Line 23 (Sponsor's current individual annual income), what should we put here? the current for the year 2007, supported by the letter of employment, since the tax return for 2007 is not yet filed till next year or the adjusted gross income reported in the 2006 tax return, though this is not his current income for the year anymore?

    thanks.

I used my adjusted gross income (and tax forms) from the 2006 tax year (filed in 2007) because it is the most current year that has been filed and can be verified by the IRS if needed.

    I am now confused..

my husband's adjusted gross income in tax year 2006 is different from his current income (due to change of work)...higher income this year...the current income is supported by the letter of employment...however, what is asked is the "current annual income", however again that, the affidavit states that the income to be written is the adjusted gross income in the tax return...

    pls help me understand further....

    thanks.
