  1. I forgot to post good news that my husband was approved. Our cc date was Sept 11 and our interview date was Dec 20. He was only asked 5 questions. Similar to previous post he had to wait for about 3 hours for the entire process but the interview only lasted 5 minutes. I have a question for anyone else interviewed around Dec 20: Did you receive notification of when to pick up your passport from the mail. My husband is still waiting to get his tracking number. We had to cancel our trip overseas twice now because he has not received his passport in the mail. I am hoping to hear good news that folks are starting to get their passports back.

My interview is on December 21 and I will be asking that question for myself, so I will let you know what they say.

We had our interview on Dec 20 and they did not give us the option to pick up our passport. We unfortunately had to cancel our overseas trip due to this inconvenience. My husband is still waiting to receive his tracking number to have his passport returned. Did you by chance get a notification on when to pick up your passport from the mail?

Thanks! My spouse did not come with me, but there were a lot of spouses there. They can sit with you.

Passport choice is mailing only. Got a paper with tracking instructions -  basically wait for a tracking number lol. You go back onto the site that you registered your appt with, as far as I can tell from this paper. They didn’t provide a specific timeline.. I’m hoping for the best, cuz I am set to leave in 36 days!

When you say "passport choice is mailing only" - are they no longer providing the option to pick up in person after 3 business days?

If he plans on picking the passport up in Montreal then you should be good to go approx 5 business days after the interview. I interviewed in a Friday, and picked up May passport the following Thursday. I wouldn’t book a flight based on what I say but it does seem that’s a reasonable turnaround time to expect. I think December 24th would be pushing it to be honest, especially with Christmas happening.  I bet you will be ready to pick it up on the 27/28th, that’s my guess.

Thanks for your feedback. Very helpful

Good Friday evening everyone. So, I  was in Montreal today for my 8am appointment.  Despite taking almost 3 hours, it’s done and over with, and more importantly, a success. Im very relieved.

Thanks to to this site I had a pretty good idea of what was gonna happen, and it pretty mich did, as I’ve read on here. I was 8am, got to the embassy at about 7:45 and I was #6. My advice to everyone, get there sooner. I didn’t leave the embassy until 1040am, waiting times combined made up almost 2.5 hours of that time.

as people have said, they call you up and take your documents. Then you wait and wait and wait. Eventually I was called up and the interview itself was quick and easy, no trickery.

But I did manage to get some very important information regarding passport delivery and pick up! THEY ARE NOT MAILING OUT PASSPORTS DUE TO THE CANADA POST STRIKE(This is effective Oct 17th, and can be read on the state department website as well). And the next part is good or bad, depending on where you live. Residents of Ontario and Québéc have the option to pick up the passport in person. They said my “package”(which is really just my passport) should be ready by Wednesday, 3 business day turnaround, and they will call Tuesday to confirm. The rest of the Canadian applicants are at the mercy of the Canadian post office strike, is basically what I was told by the gentleman that did my interview. Sorry to be the bearer of this news. And paying extra for the courier service doesn’t do it either as the courier service they chose to use was, you guessed it, Canada Post.

Overall, aside from sitting for what felt like eternity, it was pretty straightforward process.

feel free to ask me anything and I’ll fill in any missing pieces or questions from my experience there today.

congrats to everyone who got dates, and good luck to those with appointments coming up...Courtney, didn’t see you guys anywhere in the city, but good luck Monday.

My husband's interview is on Dec 20. We were originally booked for a flight out of the country on Dec 12 but decided to cancel our flights (unfortunately loss of money) in order to not miss his interview. He is from Ontario and hoping to get his passport back as soon as possible so we can fly out. We are wondering what day we should rebook our flight as he needs his passport to fly outside of the country. Would Dec 24 be safe?

I agree with @SKB2017 that day not over yet.  Things may still be updating — some people have got emails but I haven’t.   And my status up till a couple hour ago was still “at NVC”.   It only changed to “In Transit” about a couple hours ago.

    Fingers crossed for you!

I had to call to get my interview date. Emails won’t get sent out until I believe Monday.

Yes! Congrats to those who have dates! And at least on this site, there are only a few more people who have dates before my CC of Sept 21, so that's exciting! It does seem like there are very few with CC dates in Sept, and none I've seen with dates in the last week of Aug. I've seen Sept 6th (@MC1) , Sept 12th (@MSDupuis) , Sept 13th (@SKB2017) and Sept 21st (@darth vader and myself).  Anyone else have a date in August after the 23rd, or in the first few weeks of Sept?

Yes my cc date is Sept 11.

  8. We were documentary qualified on September 11, 2018 and have not received our interview date yet for the US Consulate Montreal in Canada (filed spousal visa CR-1). How long are these interview waiting times? Has anyone else that was doc qualified around that time received their interview yet? I am a US citizen and my spouse in Canada and Nigerian (duel citizen) but lives in Canada.
