Part 5 of the affidavit of support (form I-864) requires information about the sponsor's household size.
Question 3 of part 5 says: "If you are currently married, enter '1' for your spouse". The instructions for this question say: "Type or print '1' if you are married. Type or print '0' if you are not married".
In our case, the sponsor is married (to me). So according to the above we should enter "1". However, question 3 is under the section: "Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit", and there is a note saying: "Do not count any member of your household more than once".
So if we follow the instructions, and enter "1" because the sponsor is married, we are violating the instructions by counting the same person twice (once as a person sponsored and again as the spouse of a sponsor), and we are counting the spouse under the heading of "Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit" when the whole point the affidavit is the sponsorship of that very person.
Should we write "0" as there are zero non-sponsored spouses, or should we write "1" as the question says: "If you are currently married, enter '1' for your spouse"?

We are about to file Form I-864 (Affidavit of Support), and as I understand it, we are required to establish that the petitioner is either domiciled in the United States or intends to re-establish a domicile in the United States. Neither of us currently lives in the United States.
I know there are lists of various factors that go towards showing this, but I have two specific questions:
- How important is a job offer in the United States? My wife is looking for a job, but we can't be sure she'll be offered one before we submit the I-864.
- If you fail to establish domicile or intent to re-establish it, does your application just fail and you have to start again, or do you get a chance to establish domicile (e.g. by the petitioner moving to the United States) and then re-submit the relevant I-864?

How unhealthy do you have to be to fail a medical exam? Anyone had any experience with this?
In particular, what about (medicated) anxiety conditions, and mis-use of alcohol in the past (not in a way leading to harm or convictions)?

Still waiting on Nebraska to get on with their processing...
They seem to be getting further and further behind every day.

Hi,
As I understand it, at the completion of the IR-1/CR-1 process you get issued an IR-1 or CR-1 visa depending on the length of your marriage.
When is date on which that determination is made? Is the visa issued after approval at the interview, or is the visa issued upon arrival in the US?
Hope that makes sense.

Hi there,
I just noticed that the Nebraska Service Center's time line is now 18 to 23.5 months for a spouse-based I-130. The receipt date for a case inquiry is now November 10 2017.
This is weird because a few weeks ago the Nebraska Service Center's time line was 12 to 15 months, and they were processing cases with a receipt date in June 2018.
How can it be that as time has gone by, the Service Center is going backwards? Why didn't they process the November 2017 applications before processing the June 2018 applications?
Anyone know what's going on?
Edit: Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. I'm not sure how to move it...

Hi - just wondered if anyone has had any experience successfully paying the filing fee for the I-130 (filed at the Chicago Lockbox) with a non-US credit card, using form G-1450.
It seems like this should be no problem? But I keep seeing instructions saying to pay by check. Any advice?
Cheers,
Daniel. -
Thanks for the advice pushbrk, I will do that.

Hi, form I-130 requires that you enter the "date from" and "date to" in relation to your address history and employment history.
If I enter a "date to" in relation to my current address or current employment, that looks like I stopped living or working there on that date.
If I enter the words "Present" that contradicts the express instruction to provide a date in the format MM/DD/YYYY.
What have you guys done?
Thanks,
Daniel.

I think this is the correct answer.
Though it's not following the instructions literally. It's ignoring the literal instruction of: "If you are married, write 1", since I'm married and will be writing 0.
