  1. WHEN FILLING OUT THE 129F, WHERE YOU ARE TO LIST THE NAMES OF PRIOR SPOUSES, THERE ARE ONLY 2 BOXES, WHAT IF YOU HAVE 3 PRIOR SPOUSES, HOW SHOULD I HANDLE THAT??

    tHANKS ..STEVE

Any time you have more information that there is room provided you can attach and addendum to the packet. State on the line on the form "see attached addendum" and then put the page at the end of the application. make sure you include all pertinent information on each addendum sheet for easy cross-referencing.

  2. You'll be fine going it alone. If you are comfortable with the amount of research you'll end up doing!

My hubby is in the same boat as your fiance, that distant glossy look at anything that is hyphenated (G-325a, I-129F, Etc.)

I did all the paperwork for each step of the way. Just make sure you make a nice simple chart with all the info in it so he know what to expect at the interview. I made my hubby a study guide and quized him...hahaha.

Butit was worth it at the interview because we knew how to handle ourelves.

We just competed AOS but if you were to ask him one form I submitted he wouldn't have a clue!

I suggest having your fiance sign SEVERAL copies of each form to send to you, that way you have some back ups if you make a mistake. He'll also need to send you passport photos, copy of birth cert. and such. You can mail the packet from abroad but it just might take a bit more time and money (I highly suggest a carrier like DHL or FedEx).

    Good Luck!

  3. Thanks for the info. Candleforlove is extremely helpful!

Don't forget....even if you don't qualify to sponsor her on your own, you still need to file an affidavit for yourself in addition to the sponsor (joint-sponsor).

I mention this in case you need to catch up on filing taxes or getting any documentation you will need for the form.

I was also living and working abroad when we filed for the K-1. We got through just fine with my sister as a joint-sponsor.

  4. Whatever you do, avoid getting the fingerprint check. If someone tells you that is the way to go, find someone else to do the check for you. (unless you have a criminal history).

We have been waiting for over 7 months for our RCMP check, we had to do it that way as my fiance no longer resides in Canada. The four months is from when they enter it into the computer...which took almost 4 months alone.

  5. ok, there are pro's and con's to going to the interview while missing things.

I went with my fiance to his interview and we knew we were missing a couple things. Some of the things we didn't have we found out we didn't need...such as any documentation for his children that we will apply for K-2's in the future. We chose to go ahead with the interview as it would be the only time I would be able to go to it with him.

What we were missing and did need was a police certificate from Canada (as my fiance had lived there for a couple years). What we did was bring evidence that we had applied for it and that we had followed up with canada to try and get it in time. We got through with the interview and the interviewing officer said 'congratulations'. we passed the interview but he couldn't give us the visa until we sent in the police certificate. He gave us a 221-g form that will hold our case for up to a year.

We still don't have the certificate...but as soon as we do we'll send it right in.

Without knowing what you are missing, it's hard to say what you should do.

If you are missing evidence of support...I would definatly wait until you get that sorted out.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  6. Jlvr,

I haven't reached this far in the process (my fiance STILL doesn't have his visa and I've been back in the states for a month and a half) but I've done a lot of research for when the time comes.

As long as the child is listed on the original I-129F petition and any subsequent forms from the interview you should be fine.

The child needs to receive the K-2 visa within one year of the K-1 visa being issued. (make sure you start as early as needed so they application doesn't 'time out' before the year is up.) The child will then have 6 months (check that) to travel on the visa.

The process is started by contacting the embassy and they will tell you to send in a DS-230 part 1.

There is obviously more to the process but that get's the ball rolling.

Depending on the childs age s/he may need to go to an interview at the embassy. Any child will also need a medical evaluation.

    Good Luck!

  7. I'm not posting this in the Canada forum because Canadians don't usually need to go through this process while living in Canada.

Actually, all Canadians who are going through at least the K1 process are required to obtain a police certificate for their consulate interview. Most of the time one can get a basic name check which takes a very short time, but those who have had prior criminal records are also required to submit their fingerprints as well, which stretches the process out by months.

From what I've heard, anyone who's submitted their fingerprints will need to wait an estimated time of 150 days - sometimes shorter than that, but that's their standard wait time.

    Did you submit through RCMP?

Let me clarify...I say "Canadians don't usually need to through this process while living in Canada"....That is because they can just do a names check locally without going through the RCMP fingerprint process (unless of course they hvae a criminal record). I have asked these questions in the Canadian forum, but no one there can answer because they are all going through a different process locally.

We have submitted through the RCMP with fingerprints sent in as this is the only way to get this check while living in another country.

As I already mentioned in my previous post, I understand their estimated wait time. We are however, past their estimated time. I was only putting this question out there to get a sense of how long it has taken for people lately. RCMP has become more backlogged in the past few months than ever.

If anyone else has been going through this process let me know!

  8. I have been waiting since March for a Criminal Records check from Canada. My fiance lived there previously but does not reside there now. So, he can't just go into their local office to get one done.

Sooo, I'm just wondering if any one else has requested one in the same time frame an if you have had any better luck than us. I just want to know if the long wait is normal right now.

I've been emailing them with not much luck in getting any information in return.

I'm not posting this in the Canada forum because Canadians don't usually need to go through this process while living in Canada.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. I have ordered my dress online. I will receive it on the 20th after I am back in the States. I have heard good things about this site and they have a reasonable return policy.

I'll let you know how it works out when I receive it. I'll just have to pay for any alterations and to get it steamed/ironed.

But for the dress I've ordered, it's a petty good deal.

  10. If anyone can reply to this question, please do it here, as someone else had the same question today, and this thread has wandered from its original intent: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80826

Did you call around to the banks? If there is an international bank there, they may be able to do it. I am also abroad and had the Bank draft written in US dollars. it worked just fine.

  11. The DS-156 is looking for information regarding US visa's only.

I just went to my fiance's interview where we turned in our DS-156. My fiance has had previous ties to Canada including attempts to gain residency. None of these were brought up at the interview since they had no relevence to a US visa.

You are not withholding anything by not reporting it. If you reported it as a visa petition, that would be misrepresentation.

If you look at that whole section it is asking only about US visa's...if it suddenly were asking about visa's to other countries, it would state that.

Remember, the DS-156 is a non-immigrant petition, they are just looking to see if the benificiary has immigrant intent. But since you are filing the DS-156k concurrently, there is no need to prove non-immigrant intent.

If you are woried about it. Fill in the form correctly (not listing the Canada petition since it's not required) and just put a letter into your own folder you bring to the interview. If the inerviewer brings it up, you can submit the letter for documentation on the issue. If the interviewer doesn't ask, don't bring it up and don't give him the letter. This is not 'withholding information' in the way that some people forget to list children or things like that on their forms.

There were lot's of things our interviewer didn't ask, that we were just as happy not needing to answer...so we didn't bring them up. We brought home a lot of documentation we had 'just in case' that was never asked for. We were glad we were more than prepared, but also glad we didn't have to explain everything.

Don't give yourself more trouble than you need.

  12. OP,

    How did you make out?

    Did it come yet?

I am in a similiar situation, yet we have already received the 221-g...hoping to get the cert back to them ASAP as we really would like to travel by mid-august.

keeping my fingers crossed for you...and me too!

  13. Tony,

I hope you had a great flight and are fully enjoying the benefits of being with your fiance.

As for me, Kellon went for his medical and interview this week. He passed the medical just fine, he was also approved for his visa. However, we are still waiting for the Canada police check to come back so we can mail it in with his passport so they can issue the visa. We are hoping we can get it in time so we can travel together to the states. I can't stay past August 16 since I have to interview in the states for a grad school program. Sooo, we are thrilled to be approved, we just need to get visa in hand now.

I think I round out our group for getting visa's?

well, we've almost got it. ;)

    Sue

  14. hey guys,

I am really happy for all of you. So many approvals and visa's in hand!

Kellon and I will be going to his interview next week. We are pretty anxious to say the least. We are still missing a bunch of documentation...not quite sure f we dhould go anyway or not. It's just frusrating.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I guess I just haven't had much to say since we are at such a stand still.

On a good note, we are throwing a huge engagement bash this weekend. We have a ton of people coming, I've been cooking all week.

It's really nice to see you all getting through...I hope I'm not too much of a rain cloud.

  15. There are two options,

Some medical facilities have a 'Titre' test available. This will test the blood for any anti-bodies already present. They would not need to be re-innoculated for anything that shows up.

The oher option is to get them down all over again. They can either do this before the medical with their doctor, or clinic and get appropriate documentation, or wait until the medical and get them there. Sometimes this will be more costly than the other options. Some of the vaccinations take more than one dose, so the panel physician will make a recommendation on this.

    Good Luck

    Sue

  16. Bass Ale for me...I've been in Grenada too long...only get really strong rum or Carib beer (not that great)

and I could be persuaded to have two or three.

I'm glad you feel better. We all put so much into this process, it seems like a disaster when little things go wrong along the way. Good Luck with your response to the RFE.

    Sue
