  1. Has anyone heard of a man getting a fiancé visa from Afghanistan recently?

My fiancé is there now and has been waiting 6 months since his interview. Our case is in AP. Has anyone heard of AP taking less than a year for a man from Afghanistan in 2018/2019?

I know 2 women who were only in AP for less than 2 months. But I haven’t heard of any men getting visas.

Question for my fellow Afghan applicants:

Would it be a good idea to ask for my fiancé's passport back from the embassy? We're considering meeting in a third party country for a vacation, since my employer (government) won't allow me to travel to Afghanistan. I know taking his passport  would obviously slow down the eventual issuance process, but...we haven't seen each other in two years, and judging by the AP times, I don't anticipate the embassy will be needing his passport anytime soon.

That is, if I can get the embassy to respond to my emails. *there's no emoji to represent laughing through bitter bitter tears, but imagine it here* 😂

I don’t think it affects the issuing process. They still process the visa normally after you take your passport. Then when the visa is done they just tell you they need your passport back. I read about a guy who took his passport to leave, and then got word like 2 weeks later that his visa was ready.

    Any updates?

Nothing yet, I just contacted 2 senators from my state (Pennsylvania). One of them responded and said they would try to help and asked me to sign some release forms so they could look at our case. So we’ll see if they can actually do anything!

We have seen Embassy require additional vetting or clarification with USCIS. We have seen Embassy's slow in processing visa's, We have seen some take upwards of 6 months plus. Here is something I have from https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/frequently-asked-questions.html

Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant's interview by a consular officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement when they apply. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of the visa interview. Learn more.

Have you tried to make contact with the Embassy?

Yes we’ve tried contacting them multiple times. They always just say it’s in AP and they don’t have any additional information to give us.

Your timeline states you are at the interview stage so if you are in AP at that stage then your file is with the CO who did the interview. They will finish the processing of the visa and then turn it over for visa insertion in the passport. Here are the stages that your case will go through at the conclusion of your interview.

When the Embassy is ready to issue a visa, it will change to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application"; at that time, you will know that you are a few days away from getting the visa. It will go from "Immigrant Visa Application" to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application" status and then your visa changes to "Ready" ==> "Administrative Processing" ==>> "Issued" status as well. These steps sometimes transpire over a day or even a few days. Some smaller Embassy's it happens within hours.

Sometimes, it might skip "Administrative Processing" and go from "Ready" to "Issued".

While the CO has the case in the “several months or more” (as was stated on his yellow card they gave him) that it take to complete AP, don’t they make inquiries from other US government organizations about the fiancé? Or they do all the checking and vetting and processing themselves?

At what stage are you that you are in AP? Are you at USCIS, NVC or your Embassy?

Well, he already had his fiancé visa interview at the embassy. That was 3 months ago. Now they just say it’s in Administrative Processing. Which, as far as I know, is something that happens back in the states. Some government organization vets the fiancé through Security Advisory Opinions (SAO). I just don’t know which government organization is doing it.

    Hi Klewis27,

any update regarding your husbands visa? my wife she had her interview on July 24, and its still on AP. I don't know how long more we have to wait.

No updates. And he isn’t my husband yet. Just fiancé. I emailed the embassy but they didn’t tell me anything useful.

  8. Yeah our case is in AP, it’s been there for 64 days. They kept his passport. His interview questions were normal. Just about us and our relationship. For the last decade he lived in Azerbaijan as a refugee from Afghanistan, so they asked him about that. He said the interview went well, but it was really short. They had the yellow card ready to give to him before the interview even started.
