  1. Hi,

Thank you for all the wonderful help on this forum!

My adjustment of status from O1 to permanent resident based on marriage was approved last Thursday. The card was mailed a couple days after. I received a notice that USPS was "returning the card" as the post office could not "deliver it". Four hours later I got a notice that said USPS "returned the card" and it mentioned the usual warning about returned cards being destroyed after 60 days.  However, when I returned home from work I checked my mail and my card was delivered in my mailbox and the USPS tracking number shows that it was delivered.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm guessing I can just continue on my merry way now.... 😳😂

  2. My husband and I just had our interview this past Thursday. It lasted about 25 minutes. The officer was very friendly and asked the usual questions: "How did we meet?", "Why did we want to get married?", "Describe our relationship with our in-laws". She took a few photos from our album and some additional bank statements, lease etc. She told us everything was in order and it should be approved. We received a notification the following morning that the card had been ordered to be produced and an approval notice the day after that. Yesterday it said the card had been mailed.

  3. Thank you for all the help on this forum, it is greatly appreciated!

We have our interview in a couple days. Marriage based I-485 from an O1 Visa to hopefully permanent residency. How do you transport your documents for the interview? At this point we have been married three years and almost two years since we submitted our application. All our documentation is about 50lbs. Can I just wheel a filing cabinet into the office? Haha

  4. If it helps anyone, our interview has been scheduled for February 18th at Javits in Manhattan.

Has anyone had experience using AP during COVID? My father is having to undergo a major surgery in December and I'm not sure if I should risk traveling or not. I haven't used my AP yet during the process.

  6. Hello,

Thank you for all the wonderful help in this forum. My apologies if this post is redundant... I tried to search for the relevant information and couldn't find anything.

We did a concurrent filing of I-130 and I-485 in August of 2019. I received my EAD/AP combo card in November of 2019. Case has been " ready to schedule for interview" since October 2019. We live in Brooklyn, NY. I applied for a new EAD/AP in September 2020 and this is "processing".

Has anyone had experience traveling with an AP document during COVID? I am Canadian and am trying to make it home to help as my father is ill and is having surgery. As an only child I'm at my wits end of how to help in this situation as I've been told my re-entry to the US is not guaranteed. If anyone has any insight into using their AP during COVID that would greatly be appreciated. I anticipate needing to bring lots of documentation.

Also, is anyone in the NYC metro area able to share their experiences with wait times? I've been told to expect a wait for an interview for three years yet at the same time have read stories about green cards received in six months and am confused as to what my expectations should be.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

  7. Hello,

Thank you to everyone for the help you've all provided on this forum. It certainly makes things a lot easier for us.

I have a question regarding form I-130A and the employment history part. I have been in the US working on two consecutive O1 visas. I list myself as self employed on taxes and received mainly 1099s. There is the odd case of a contract employer issuing a W2. I'm assuming that listing myself as self employed and my field as acceptable however should I be including work contracts that issued a W2 as separate employers and list them all?

    Thank you for your help!

  8. Hello,

I hope I'm posting this in the right place and thank you to everyone who has been so helpful on these forums.

I have a question regarding form I-864. My husband and I are submitting our I-130/I-485 concurrent package (I am a Canadian citizen living in the US on an O-1 visa).

My husband graduated from a four year program in January of 2018. He has since been working and has income that exceeds the poverty guidelines. I see that we must include the last year's tax return (which does not show sufficient income since he was attending school). We have all his pay stubs from this year from both clinics he works at as well as the document stating his Veteran's Affairs Disability monthly payment. If this is attached with an explanation letter is this considered sufficient?

    Thank you for your help!

  9. Hi,

Thanks to everyone who has helped answer my previous questions, it is much appreciated.

I will be filing an I-130 with I-485 together as I have been living in the US on an O1 visa an recently got married to an American citizen.

Should I also file form I-765 even though I have an O1 visa (expiry June 2020)? I'm guessing it is better to do this because it will lift work restrictions for myself.

    Thank you!

  10. Hello,

My husband and I recently got married here in the US three months ago and I am not slightly overwhelmed as I start to deal with the process for my permanent residency. We are hoping to avoid using a lawyer to save costs.

I am Canadian and have been working in the US on an O1 visa (this is my second one and it expired June 2020). I understand I will be filing an adjustment of status. My husband and I currently live together in NY.

    I have a few questions...

It is my understanding that once I file I cannot leave the country (or if I do need to there is paperwork involved), yes?

Will I be able to continue working as normal? It seems to me that after filing I'll get a temporary work authorization that will be used instead of my O1

I usually work places other than where my home is. Working in the arts sometimes I have a 6-8 week contract booked at another location in the US. How much notice is usually given before having to report for biometrics and interview?

Thanks for reading my post as I get started on this journey... mostly looking for some insights on adjusting status from a non-resident work visa to permanent residency.

Thanks in advance for your help!
