  1. Hello again friends,

Just bob mentioned I could file for citizenship anytime I wanted, preferably before the 10 year green card expires,But mr nick, you mentioned something about a 5 year deadline/time-frame. so Must I file at specific time to get citizenship? or can i apply and get it at any time during my 10 green card?

Thank you for your answers they help so much.

  2. Wow "Just bob", you have made my night, I am so relieved. thank you for your advice, it seems like I couldn't find any where on the internet if I could file for naturalization another time. the emphasis seems to be that one must file as soon as possible or one wont be able to become a citizen.

    :)

  3. Hello friends,

This board has given me invaluable information, so thank you. my wife and I are 6 weeks into our "file for naturalization" period. However we don't have the money due to some circumstances out of our control, My question is are we allowed to wait to file for citizenship? if so how long? currently she has the permanent resident 10 year green card and we are just about to hit the "the 3 year resident since date"(based on marriage) but we cannot afford the payment for the N-400. so how long can we wait to file for citizenship? or do we have to file now if we want her to have citizenship? we were hoping in a year or 2 we could file, but would that change the whole process?

thank you for your reply's they are very appreciated

  4. I entered on a tourist visa, I got it registered at the post today and they said" well its been more than 3 days you might get in trouble" however they said they just send the registration to OVIR whcih is closed until after the 11th any way. I have the bottom portion of my registration, stamped and signed. I guess the only place i could get in trouble is when i leave and they look at my visa.

    any thoughts?

    thanks

  5. So I am in Russia in a smallish town and the post office and OVIR didnt open until today because of the "holidays" and I Have been here since 1-3-09 it is currently 1-9-09, I have the registration form all filled out and we are bringing it to the post today, I will keep the bottom portion , my questions are these, will immigration care that I didnt get registered? and do they need to stamp the peice of paper that i keep with anything? my feeling is that they probably have never registered an american here.

    Thanks

  6. Hi everyone! Hope every one is having great holidays. so me and the wife are going back to Russia for a few weeks for the first time since we were married. What documents does she need to get back into The U.S.A? Is it her Russian passport, her green card and a copy of our marriage certificate? or do we need the original? is there anything elses, any problems we will have. we will be coming bac through JFK The plan tickets we bought in her maiden name to match her passport.

    THANKS!

  7. So me and the wife are going to visit family near Ufa, in Russia, I have gotten Russian visas before but not since the rules changed. I know how to get a visa I just don't understand how to register it once we get to our destination which is kind of rural. So how do I register my visa once I arrive? I used Google but I got some conflicting answers and people hear always seem to know more any way.

    Thanks for the help!

  8. Our experience was that we could not get a DL/ state ID until her AOS was processed. We were told it was because Social securities computer checks with immigration, and immigration doesnt process the maiden name, to married name change until AOS is approved. Dmv in CA checks with social security to make sure the name on the eod card and social security offices computer records are the same. maybe your experience will be different. I Hope so :)

  9. My wife applied for a social security card name change 6 weeks ago form her maiden name to her married name. we have since received her green card. Social security gave us a letter stating that " all the documents must be verified because her married name hasn't been changed in the computer" and that we would receive a letter or a new social security card within 4 weeks regarding the status of her application. its now been 6 weeks and i called social security and visited them and they say the documentation verification is "still pending" and to "call back"but we are stuck because social security hasn't or wont process the name change application. what can i do? where is the information getting stuck?she cant drive or even get an id without this name change. whom are they verifying the documents through? is there anything i can do or call? has any one else gone through this?

I went to Hawaii in December 1 day after I got married, before we had even applied for aos. all my wife needed was her foreign passport. they didn't even look at her K-1 visa. further proof of this: The k-1 expired while we were on our honey moon and no problems on the way back. your clear.have fun!!

PS: if your going to the big island get the airport at least 3 hours early, its CRAZY busy. and unorganized..

  11. Card production ordered:

Thats what it says when I check our case status for AOS. I am assuming that we means we passed the interview.

I just want to let every one know To try and relax a little bit if you have your interview and don't know the results. The immigration officer we had was totally callous and mean to us during our interview, even though our case is straight forward and legit, and wouldn't say if we passed the interview or not, which made us think we failed of course, why else would she not tell us Right? So for all the people worried about the interview, take a deep breath and relax, and Pray, because Giant inefficient bureaucracy's are filled with people just like me and you, who also have bad days. So even if the immigration officer is awful, you will likely pass.

Thanks for all your help guys

  12. So We had out Aos interview today and it went ok we were asked for bank account statements that have both are names and pictures and were asked some easy questions about each others birthdays and if family was able to make it to the wedding. The immigration officer took my wifes EAD card and her advanced parole documents, she also took and her i-94 out of her passport. and didnt give any of it back. IS THIS NORMAL? The officer didnt say if we were approved or not just that we would get a notice in the next 10 days saying weather we passed or not. any help would be greatly appreciated.

  13. Hello every one. I sent my aos package before I did filed my taxes, it seem like I made just under the 17500, for 2007. In 2006 I made far over the guidelines. but I am wondering what I should do? Should I get an affidavit of support and just bring it to to interview? do they even ask about the most current taxes in the interview?I do Not have an interview date scheduled yet.

Thanks so much for your help in advance

  14. I just realized something......I am getting married on December 28th..... my finance's k-1 expires 1/3/08. we will be on our honey moon until 1/8/08. her only form of id is her Russian international passport.... will she be able to fly back to California from Hawaii with her Russian passport even though the k-1 is expired????

  15. Hello every one, well we have set our marriage date for dec 28th, and some how have managed to plan a nice wedding in less than three months. Elina and I discussed posting our k-1 experience from start to finis(to this point) with the interview poe uscis process in English and in Russian. if any one would be interested or think it would help there lady (or guy) for it to be in Russian we would be happy to do it.

Ok 2 questions, on the visa flowchart on this site it states that we should apply for aos before the k-1 expires, the problem with that is that we are getting married just a few days before the expiration date, and wont be able to get the aos package out untill, after our honeymoon(approx 2 weeks after marriage) is this going to be a problem?

    2. In the future, after we get our aos approval and get the "10 year" green card. whats the next step after that? thats where the flowchart ends.after that the process just ends? after the 10 years she is just a regular citizen? Thanks guys
