  1. Hello there!

I applied for a green card in August of this year. I received a courtesy letter regarding the doctor form (the form was older than 60 days when they received my papers) on December 3rd. Then, today I saw the notification that they scheduled our green card interview and that they will mail me a notice with the date and the time. My question is, the only doctor in a 30 mile radius here has scheduled me for the immigration exam on January 6. Based on your experience, how long would it normally take for the interview notice to arrive in the mail? Do I get some extra time because of the courtesy letter? I want to have an idea whether I should look for other doctors further away to have that immigration exam done faster or just stick with this one.

    Thank you!

Your welcome. Bank statements come into play sometimes for self-employed people for proof of income. Establishing a joint bank account is good financial co-mingling (bona fide marriage) evidence.

Ah, I get it. Thank you! So for the sponsor (I have him and another joint sponsor) all I would need is a letter from the employer, payslips and tax returns?

You didn't specify it was for I-864. If he's employed then payslips & letter from employer (how long he worked there, how much he makes, his employment is stable) is what you need as proof of income. As well as last year's (2017 right now) tax return transcript.

My apologies for that. I will get the description of the post corrected.

    Thank you!

  4. Hello!

I have one question. I am a former J1 student currently married to an American citizen and we're gathering up the papers to apply for a green card. I read somewhere that I may need a statement from a bank officer that contains the amount of money that was deposited there the previous year, when the account was created and the current balance. Is this something I need? Would a regular bank statement work?

    Thank you!

  5. Hi!

I'm a J1 visa holder currently living in Colorado. I work in the fast food industry. My boyfriend is a US citizen and we moved in together after I arrived here, which is at the beginning of June. We plan to get married as soon as possible and apply for an Adjustment of Status (the I-485 form). The two year rule does not apply to me. My contract with the company I work for ends on September 30th and I can stay in the US legally for another month, so until October 30th. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Do we have to get married before my contract ends or can we do that and file the I-485 form in October, after my contract ends?

    2. Does he have to sponsor me or can I file it myself?

    3. Do we have to file just the form or some other papers as well? (a dossier as proof of our relationship, proof of us living together, having a joint bank account, etc.)

    4. I want to keep working as soon as possible and as per my research, I have to file an I-765 together with the I-485 form. Is this right? Also, does anybody know how long would it take to get this work permit?

Thank you so much for your help!
