  1. December 18 is perfectly fine. Now that you have your interview date set, be sure to go to Akai Clinic to get your medical evaluation done and remember to bring your appointment confirmation page when you go as they will ask to see it. If you don't, they may take longer in returning your medical packet to you, which is what happened to us.

He should have received documents from the US Embassy in Ghana 🇬🇭 to make an account in USTravelDocs so you guys can track the visa. He can always go the nearest collection site in Accra which is DHL to confirm status and get instructions to set up account with US Travel Docs website.

Thanks. He booked his interview on ustraveldocs.com, so he already had an account set up. We actually received notification this evening that his passport is ready for pick up. I was just referring to other timelines where they received their passports faster than we did, so I was starting to get concerned that there was an issue. All is well now, and we are flying home next week :)

  3. Hi all. My husband was approved at his interview on September 27th. Per the timelines of those who had interviews before him, his passport should have been returned to him already. When I check the status on ustraveldocs it says, "Your passport is still with the US Embassy/Consulate." Does a delay mean there may be an issue? Or am I just an impatient worry wart? I know it's probably the latter, just looking for some consolation, I guess.

  4. As long as it is signed, you can print the scanned copy. Here is the link and a quote from the Dept. of State website to support this:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/interview/interview-prepare/required-documents.html

    "- A signed
Affidavit of Support from your petitioner and any additional financial sponsors who submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of your visa application. Applicants may bring photocopies and scanned versions of signed Forms I-864 and associated documents. (Please note that the form must still be signed; typed names and electronic signatures will not be accepted."

(This can be found under the "Prepare for the Interview" section.)

  5. 1. I don't recommend booking the medical appointment yet. The embassy will send you a packet with the instructions and a checklist. I made the mistake of booking the medical evaluation before my husband had an appointment, and they gave me a hard time at the medical clinic about the fact that he didn't have an appointment. The results are only valid for a certain amount of time (3 or 6 months I believe). So wait until you have your appointment date to get the medical exam.

    2. I was emailed an appointment packet, it was just a PDF document that had a few pages.

    3. Yes, begin to collect police certificates. Usually those are valid for a year. Ensure that the certificates have the correct information including passport or other travel details on it. I believe they need to be within 1 year of the interview date.

Good luck! The wait is worth it.

I print them out from Jan 1st to cover from the beginning of the current tax year and match them up with the bank statements that go with the deposit dates.

LOL I just realized how bad that last post looked.  My wife and I have been in/out of the country several times for extended periods so they're all for her - I'm not a serial husband / serial sponsor LOL.

Haha, I thought 5 seemed like a funny number! Okay, I'll do the same. Side question: every time your wife/you leave the country you have to file an affidavit of support? Or is that a completely separate conversation altogether? I'm new to this obviously haha :)

  7. Hello,

I'm in the process of filling out the I-864 and I have a question about the financials. Last year I made $22k, which is reflected on my 2017 tax return. This year, I had a baby, and therefore my household size grew to 3, and the income requirements increased to $25,525. I am currently on track to earn approximately 27,500 - 28K by the end of this year, which is above the minimum income requirement. So my questions are:

    1. Do I enter my expected annual income on the form Part 5.7 ? Or do I enter what I have earned YTD?

    2. Should I add a joint sponsor because I didn't earn enough last year? Or will the fact that I will earn more than 125% of the poverty threshold this year be sufficient?

I'm concerned about being denied because of the financials, but I was also told by an attorney that adding a joint sponsor complicates things..and I definitely don't want to complicate things any more than is necessary.

I appreciate any advice or insight.
