  1. By law a greencard won't allow you to collect benefits. When you are natualized or become a citizen, that is when you could collect benefits.

Would they be willing to be on the hook financially for 10 years after adjusting status, though?  Its more than just filling out forms.

If I'm not mistaken, if your husband made use of public funds/benefits during that period, your co-sponsors would be required to reimburse the taxpayers.

    Immigration is an expensive process.

No idea who told you that being disabled means a K-1 visa (or any visa) would be denied. That's categorically wrong.

However, as noted, one must show that the intending immigrant will not become a public charge. If the disability has out of pocket expenses involved, that will be part of the consideration. If they are unable to obtain an income, that will be part of the consideration. But sufficient assets, non-employment income (i.e. investments), and/or a joint sponsor can overcome all of this.

  3. While applying for a spouse visa in the UK can be straightforward, it is less so if your sponsored is disabled and struggling to meet the financial requirements. However, disabled citizens in the UK are entitled to a benefit known as Disability Living Allowance (DLC). This, in turns, means they are exempt from meeting the strict financial income threshold which is required for spouse visas.

  4. Hello all, My Fiance is coming from the UK. We are applying for a K-1 Visa to get married. I was wondering about his healthcare because he doesn't get it until he becomes a citizen. What can we do in the meantime? He has inhalers that he needs every month and I just looked it up on the internet. They will be expensive to pay per month. Is there anything we could do for his medication needs? He can't go 3 years without his medication.

  5. I live in NY and my fiance lives in the UK. Unfortunatly he has health issues that make it so he cannot work any longer. I am worried that it might be a factor for us getting denied. I had a co-sponsor, because I do not make the minimum enough for wage requirements. If you need any other information, please tell me, thank you for replying to my question!
