Hi, did you by any chance get interview appointment yet? My husband will be having his  interviewed in SA.

We did - just a couple of days after we were DQ’d (May 16th I think?) and the interview was yesterday - he got it! With such short turn around times someone advised us to book the medical appt before and then just keep moving it as needed, as it can be hard to get an appointment. Good luck!!

  2. Hi there,

We're applying for my husband's green card in South Africa - he's in the final stage of getting his last civil document approved and (hopefully) moving on to consular interviews in the coming months.

We've used my parent's address as our permanent US address as we're both in South Africa, and they've just recently moved. Our address in South Africa hasn't changed. I'm trying to understand who I must notify about this US address change, how to do it and when is the best time.

    • Do we notify the NVC of the US address change using the public enquiry form? Or is that just meant for changes to our local (overseas) address?
    • Does he need to submit the AR-11 form? It asks for his present and past physical address (both of which are in South Africa and haven't changed) and the mailing address (which is our US address that has changed). It seems like this is meant for applicants or immigrants residing in the US?
    • Do I need to submit the I-865 form? (Difficult to do since it needs to be submitted by mail and I'm still overseas).

Thanks for any insight you may have!

May i know what was the issue with Birth Certificate and Police clearance certificate?

My submission date is Aug 27...Hoping to get it reviewed this week.

Birth certificate was missing some information (our fault), and the police clearance was said to be expired but that has since been rectified through a query email in the system - nice when things work! So now just waiting on a revised birth certificate from our side...sigh.

They must have read the police clearance date incorrectly, or missed the date entirely.

The issue date is stamped, so it is possible they don't know what to look out for/ the scan isn't clear and they didn't see it.

The NVC gives states police clearances expire after 2 years...  So, a PCC issued in August of this year should still be valid.

Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html#:~:text=Important%3A Police certificates expire after, the police certificate was issued.

thanks again! Yep, that's what I found. Am following up. :)

I would call NVC because you can't submit a a police clearance anymore current!

And right now they are reviewing cases from 15 August 2021, so it's not possible to submit a police clearance before that date. ..

Some members have called NVC when they've requested documentation that is not available/ when NVC has made a mistake.

thanks, I will! Sorry to have hijacked this thread, it was the first one I saw in my frantic searching of how long police clearance certificates are valid to see if I’d missed something…

This is for you SA police clearance? Not a clearance from another country....

SA clearances take so long! Do you have to submit a new clearance or did they accept with the advice to order a new certificate for the interview?

Yes, for my husband’s SA police clearance certificate. They rejected it outright, though I think (hope) it was a mistake. It was dated two days before we submitted our documentation, but the date was 19 Aug 2021 - maybe they saw it as 2019?? Sigh. Not sure if they ever reverse their decisions, or how long that takes…

  7. Hi there -

I've got all my documents lined up to prove intent to re-establish domicile, but have just learned that my mother (whose address I have used as my permanent residence for years) has just sold her condo and is planning on moving in the next three months, but doesn't yet have a new address. We need to submit the affidavit of support now to keep the process moving forward, and I'm wondering if this is going to cause major problems down the line?

(I'm hoping I'm asking this in the correct thread!)
