  1. You get a new SSN card with the same number on it. And, you will be registered in the database as a citizen. So, when they want to do a check on you such as audits by the IRS, FBI, or whatever they can confirm that you're a citizen with the SSA (Social Security Administration).

Thank you for the information, and good luck with your process..

    Tonyt.

  2. FYI

If the SSA office would happen to issue you a replacement card when updating the SSN record to establish U.S. citizenship it does count against the 3 per year/10 lifetime SSN cards you can be issued.

However, if you lose 3 in a year or 10 total SSN cards, you don't need a fiancé or spouse, you need a legal guardian. LOL

so what is the actual purpose of updating your ssn when becoming a citizen, do they issue you a new ss number?

    Thanks tonyt.

  3. 1) You need to hold a green card for 3 years, with periods of being out side the USA for no more than 6 months, and being resident in the USA for more than 18 months, in order to file for Citizenship.

    2) Yes in the UK you will need to provide a copy of military records for the Visa interview. http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/ds2001.html#mr

YU and DAN.. Yes I know I need it for my Immigrant visa.. but do I need it again for Citizenship ?

I know that you need discharge papers if you were in the US military, and applying for citizenship through military service. But dont really know about being in the British forces.

  5. Kez is right. They're used during the adjustment of status phase. K1ers need AP in order to leave the country before becoming permanent residents. K3s and CR1/IR1s do not need AP.

I say this only because I have no idea what you've filed for, tonyt, so I wasn't sure if that'd be relevant to you or not.

Thanks i will be filing for a K3 or CR1/IR1 for my wife and her two daughters, as soon as my citizenship comes thru. ( When ever that is)

  6. Employment Authorization Document = Allows you to work...

Advanced Parole = Allows you to travel and return to the USA while your case is pending...

    Kez

    Thanks mate,

Is that while you are waiting 4 Adjustment of status?

  7. Essentially the same as CR-1/IR-1 visa only that the petition is filed at the US embassy or consulate in the foreign country.

    See:

In the UK there is a UK residency requirement, for DCF, you indicate you are in Maine. You will be doing either CR-1/IR-1 or K-3 visa through the USCIS in the USA, fortunately the Center you will be dealing with is the quicker center, in Vermont.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the information.

  8. I am waiting on my US citizenship to come thru, should i wait to file for my wifes K3 or should i just apply now.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

K-type visas are only available to either a foreign born fiancé or foreign-born spouse of US citizen petitioners.

Thanks do you know if there is anything else i can file to get the process going.

You could go ahead and file the I-130 and then when your US citizenship comes through--you could file and I-130 upgrade and then file the I-129f to get the K-3.

At least that's what an Immigration attorney that I worked for said he would do.

    Mary K.

Thanks for the info, will look into that.

  9. I also got my passport photos taken at Snappy Snaps.

I'm going to get my passport photo taken very soon (want to do it tommorrow) and was going to do it in a photo booth (I used that for my passport). I've been told that they wont accept a photobooth passport shot - where did you get your passport photo taken? Thanks

Just wondering what was the reesponse from congress?
