    yes i got my GC, we're over the moon.

    but i have question.

    will i get cards for my EAD & AP which i applied for too?

    i've seen that some have received their GC as well as EAD cards.

    does this GC just let me work & travel outside the USA now?

    Green card will let you work and travel.

    I recieved my GC too..and im not expecting with my EAD anymore...i dont know whats going on with EAD. Its useless. But dont worry GC is sufficient for us to work and travel. I wish i didnt apply for EAD..but AP i didnt not coz i recieved my GC after 2 months. So lucky!!! :thumbs:

    If a new immigrant REALLY wants to work as soon as possible after getting the EAD, my advice would be to volunteer somewhere upon arrival. Not only is that instantly gaining "experience" in America, but it also gives a "reference" for a prospective employer to call. My wife did this, and within one-week of getting EAD, she had a job.

    hi sleepybears..u can also do volunteer work in schools! This might help! this is our plan before, me, to volunteer in schools like for a week or 2 weeks or one month. Then look for job around. you can do this! Goodluck! :thumbs:

    Thank you for your reply. I think that maybe working in non-profit sectors is better. But I really don't see many of these jobs... I guess I don't know where to search some particular jobs. I only saw a few of these jobs on craigslist, but they're searching for admin people who have related experience...

    But I will certainly go to the website you suggested to see what's there.

    I really don't know how you got interviews from them. 1. my teaching cert in HK is not recognised here. 2. the teaching positions/ pre-K teachers all require teaching credentials or ECE units. Actually I did try to apply for teaching assistants but even those don't consider me. I went to another thread and another teacher who taught English and Science in Canada also can find a teaching assistant job only. And what is even worse is I taught English in Hong Kong, which I should say is totally useless here.

    My teaching cert in Phils were not recognized too...the schools here requires ECE but they consider it i think I dont know why i received 2 offers..infact i got interview yesterday in public school as assistant teacher. They didnt look for ECE or other credentials...my hubby said once theyl interview u there's a chance that the principal liked u. Im hoping theyll call at the end of this week. Start lower positions like teacher's assistant. And look for interview questions and study. Make good resume that will capture their attentions. The schools are looking for teachers and are given an equal opportunity regardless with race, color, disability etc. I saw mexican teachers, filipina, chinese and others. So, meaning its a diverse country. So, dont lose hope! I believe there's a job out there that is for u!

    Well... some people asked me to keep trying. but this is just too frustrating for me.

    I have said something similar in a few other threads. I've been here for a little more than a year. But I can't find a job yet.... not even part-time(even agency won't respond me!). I figured out a driving license is like a must here so I got mine in February ( a headache for getting one, the DMV here sucks). Then since April, I really tried hard to apply jobs. And my husband also asked his friends/ co-workers to help. BUT there's never any luck. So far I only have one job interview (cuz of the introduction of my husband's co-worker). BUT then they didnt like me cuz I don't have any IT company working experience ( I was a teacher in Hong Kong). Then I almost got 2 interviews with the jobs I applied but they CANCELLED the interview later even before they met me in person. They just said that there were too many applicants. Also my resume has been reviewed by my husband's co-worker in HR but there's no problem.

    Sigh... this is all discouraging experience for me. I've applied all kinds of jobs except supermarkets and restaurants... which I really don't want to work in those places. But my self-esteem has become lower and lower cuz even sales jobs with not much requirement won't consider me. There're not so many jobs here and I really can't drive far to work ( I didn't have to drive in my own country so it's difficult for me). Also there're way too many applicants when there's one non-IT/ engineering job here. :(

    A few of my friends asked me maybe I should study something. BUT I'm not young anymore. And I've studied so much in my home country now I just want a job, even a part-time. Also even I study, I'm not confident if I can find a job after that. So a few other friends also asked me to just forget about studying, dont waste my time & money (which I don't have much now... :( ), they just asked me to concentrate on selling stuff to earn money to e-bay (trying now...)

    I just wanna say... the job market here is really much worse than I thought. and if i worked in the IT company in my home country, maybe its a lot easier. Now I really don't know what to do here...

    hi! r u a teacher?? im a teacher too....this time schools are looking for teachers why dont u send ur resume...i recieved a lot of calls for 2 weeks and got offers too...teachers r in demand. This time im having my driving class and im choosing now in what schools i want...had 2 job offered and 4 interviews pending..but i will prioritize the one which is an interview in public school. Especially this time. I sent my application just last month..try applying for paraprofessional..theyl accept u...or pre-k teachers!

    believe me they call u...coz they need teachers now! :thumbs:

    maybe my problem is i m too unpatient and want the best job now, but of course that takes time.

    Yes...u know this is not our country..so whatever offers we recieved... let's grab it!..for an experience...when we have a lot of experiences already after a couple of years then it wouldnt be hard for us to find the job we want. :thumbs:

    copies only..keep the original. :thumbs: but if u have the NBI and police clearance fr other country..they need the original. So..have them photocopied, for u to keep.

    hey guys, i m for almost 7 months now, and i m looking for a job, the only thing i found is working for Mandee, but the job is so boring. i mean studded first in a business school then 4 years college, and now with the job i have i feel like i m waisting my potential. i put clothes on hangers and put them back on the rounders and i think to myself, its thats for what i studded 6 years in a businees school, 4 years in college to do that:( its really hard for me to start my life all over again, no friends, cant use my diploma, cant find a nice job. i was even thinking to start college here, but its too expensive. i wonder can i bring my transkripts from my college, and will they help me if i start to go to college. i heard from one girl that she finish college in her counrty and here just took a year in a college and they gave her diploma from the american college.is that possible. any ideas will be helpful. thanks

    Hi Polina...I have my bachelor's degree and have it finished from my country..but i dont know with business course if it is in demand..but dat work is ok(mandee)..for temporary..try sending application to the work u want...atleast u have work now..the most important thing is ur earning...then when time comes there's company would be interested to u...then thats d time!.....its really hard to start studying again...thought its cheap coz i want to study masters..but need to work first. Anyways...just take ur time..try to apply while working. Goodluck!

    i declined the first job offer...and then i accepted another school, more pay rate..hehehe but the school will start in Aug 27 so i can still get my driving class..i really need this...it takes 2 weeks..coz it goes 2X a week...then take my road test..then work in aug. 27th....im not scared now....coz every afternoon im practicing + my upcoming driving class...

    got new news...one public school called...for an interview...then will accept this coz who knows..theyl accept me...so whenever i pass i will accept this..and decline the second one...this would be great!!!!

    I declined the job..coz another school offered..and they're paying me higher than the frist one...so...need t ochoose the best!! hehehe...and have another news..one public school wants to interview me for focus aide position in elementray dept.....so..when this school accept me..will decline the second school and choose this coz this is better than the rest of them....15 mins drive and more pay..hehehehe...im happy!!! im jumping... i declined few interviews too..i think its good to send resume's to all schools..so bunch of call and interviews to come. yehey! :dance:

    I got an interview today and they hired me....im gonna start my training this coming friday. will start working in August 13th! Great news for me...but i just got my driver's permit..hoping to get my drivers license soon.

    Just a few more days until I fly to Manila. The place is almost ready. New carpets on Monday. 20 years of closets and drawers clean out and ready for her to move in. Candles. Step-stool for the kitchen. I planted some geraniums in the back yard. New bedspread (pink!) from Simply Shabby Chic at Target. I'm almost good to go.

    No questions. I'm just happy.

    Hello again everyone!

    Just arrived from back-to-back trips here. A few days after Vegas, we had to fly to Boulder, Colorado for business. It was not a honeymoon trip plus my son was travelling with us so no hanky-panky for us :devil: . Dusa si hotDoug ko hehe.

    I haven't figured out how to post my wedding photos here so please bear with me. I'll figure it out when I find the time. Busy lang talaga. I will also start updating my long-neglected list.

I thought I was ok here, did not feel sad or homesick for maybe 2 weeks then all of a sudden, while driving along a highway here in WA, I saw what looked like South Expressway along Laguna and then I just started feeling homesick and then cried. Bigay kaagad ng tissue ang aking bf este asawa na pala. Haaay, Philippines, kahit magulo at mabaho, it's still home. Have a fun wedding day. Remember to always smile for the camera!

    i am a truck driver and sherwin is with me in the truck now. we have been to almost all of the continental states so far, except MN, ND, SD, NE, IA, WY, ID, WA, OR, VT, and RI. and i guess we did all the paperwork right bcz we did have to go to canada 2 times already and had no problem with immigration either time.

    Thank you for the update, Bernie. I see lots of those gleaming big trucks here in WA. Gee, how do you keep them so clean after those long trips? What a fun job! Criss-crossing coast-to-coast! But it must be painful for the bum-bum ;)

    Which hotel that you can recommend me and how long did you get your marriage license? Did you have to make appointments or reservations first...ohhh sooo much questions, sowee. Huhuhu i think we can't make it before July 30, "sayang" hehehe. But we'll still try.

    hi Cor....yes untill now...cry..cry effect pa rin ako masarap talaga ang PINAS..yeah mabaho...magulo at maraming tsismosa pero HOMe SWEET HOME pa rin....everyone think na masarap dito sa U.S yes....that's true....pero I cant explain why PINAS still the BEST for me...lol.....kakaloka talaga...... :crying::crying::crying: yeah your right when we're travelling goin to virginia i remember the expressway in manila at nalungkot din ako...lol....trying myself not to cry kasi na remember ko rin goin to LAGUNA south expressway area of manila....parang na sa PINAS ako on that time...lol.....mahirap talaga to overcome the HOMESICK....any advise????....ano ang ginawa nyo para ma overcome ang HOMESICK?....I HAVE ALL the sort of fun hear, internet, unlimited phone call sa pinas...lol....a very understanding, caring, loving and supportive husband but still i'm sad...miss ko talaga ang pinas.
