I just think all couples should be aware of the differences and advantages/disadvantages of the K-1 and CR-1. Many people don't realize the difficulties until it's too late. Every week, we see people who have a great deal of difficulty after entering the US via a K-1 in the areas of Social Security numbers, driver's licenses, being able to travel outside the US and the inability to work for about 6 months......
I sent you a private message, can you check it, please?

Can you marry in your country or outside the US?
Not in my country, no. But I think we can marry outside my country (same-sex). Why are you asking this though?

Has he already filed the I-129f?
No, not yet. But we already saw each other during May 2018.

Hi there. My fiance wants to visit me for a few months, about 2-3. He makes about $23,000/year. Now, if he gets absent from work for 2-3 months, the yearly tax returns will decrease, would this affect affidavit of support proof for AoS negatively?

Good luck. Just relax and feel free to ask any questions. There are a lot of good people here. I know this seems daunting at first. We were all there. It truly is easier than it feels right now.
True, you're one of them! Thanks again.

None of that is required until the interview. That does not go with the petition. You are good. He will have his 2018 tax return by the time you interview.
Thank you!

Current earnings capacity at the time of submission is primary. Time in position is not so.
I see. I think it could affect in a way that they think he's stable and that he will stay employed.

The affidavit is not included in the petition so that is not a show stopper
Yes, I know. I was concerned about the September 2017 job start date and tax returns/W2's.

His start date is not important. You have at least 9 months before the affidavit is submitted to the consulate at the time of the Visa interview considering you have not yet submitted a petition
Okay so we're good to file next month then, thank you!

Yeah? No? Anyone?

My fiancé started working around Sept 2017. He is 23 years old.
He currently makes around $11.5/hour, works about 8 hours/day. So his annual salary should probably be around $23,000. We, of course, have exceeded 125% but not by much. He has his paystubs, can get a letter of employment and performance, W2’s and tax returns since September 2017.Now, my question is, is his employment starting date (around September 2017) a problem for us? We want to file the petition during next month (December 2018)
PS: I'm the beneficiary, he's the petitioner.

Making more money will not negatively affect an affidavit of support. Changing jobs, in itself, will not have a negative effect.
I see, thank you.

He makes about 5K above the poverty line

My fiance (petitioner) has been employed for 11 months now, he makes $21,840/year (before tax cuts) and no one depends on him, so we're good.
Now, he wants to change his job because there's a new place that pays more, would this affect affidavit of support in the future negatively?

It's considered self-employed. But they don't know if you don't report.
Unless you need that income for I-864, keep it off the book.
I think they would know the transactions I've received from Lebanon, no? Then interrogate me, maybe, and I'd rather not lie honestly.

1) Prepare the letter and leave some space for signature and date
2) You print it
3) Sign it
4) Scan it
5) E-mail it
6) He prints it
Best of luck Sara!

This seems a little out of date, but look here:
http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Lebanon&cty=Beirut
in addition to police certificate and birth certificate you will need your civil record (I think that is to prove you've never been married).
Ah right. This still needs about 6 months though so I'll do more research and make sure, thank you, you're always very helpful and your help is appreciated, dear.

That may be another question you need to ask. I thought the birth certificate and a translation were required at the embassy stage?
Ah, I guess they require birth certificate, police certificate and a couple of other "if" ones like marriage certificate, divorce certificate, court records, etc... But if I haven't committed any crime neither have I been married before, I would only get BC and PC, right?

We were able to get my husband’s Mexican passort changed. It had a wrong letter in his last name the last three passports he had had and he never noticed it. They passed the error on each time. We had to take a birth certificate and they changed it.
I don't think I can get a birth certificate, I'm born in Aleppo. Will research, though. Anyway I don't think this is a major problem for me, if it's Hadajian, Hadajian it is then...

Like I said before you will need to bring official translations of your birth certificates, police certificates, civil certificates and such to the embassy. They are going to have to match.
It's HADAJIAN on my old passport, so I'll see if I could talk to someone there to change it in case it's wrong on my new one.

I see. I'll look into it, it gets issued on coming Tuesday so let's hope for the best.

Can you get an official translation of your ID and birth certificate and go get it changed? I'm sure if you talk to someone else you will get a different answer. It has to be changed. You cannot have a passport in this process with the wrong name on it.
I'm fine with hadajian though, why would it create any problem?

Could it be translated from arabic into HADAJIAN? You will need to bring translations of your birth certificates, police certificates, civil certificates and such to the embassy. Make sure they all translate translated the same. If they translate into Hadajian. You are going to have to live with that last name. Additionally he will have to put it that way on the petition.
It's translated to HADJIAN but these people are so stupid, there is no "A" in my last name in Arabic, Google Translate is smarter than them:

There must be a way to change it. How did you get your initial passport? You must have needed an ID and a birth certificate and such. Your passport will NEED to be fixed.
There is no way to fix it unless I can prove with another official document... My last name on my ID is in Arabic, Hadjian is an Armenian last name so Arabic speaking people hardly translate Armenian last names.
2 minutes ago, NikLR said:Birth certificate? Other ID? There are ways to prove they misspelt your name and you should fix this asap
Birth certificate is in Arabic and I have no other ID than the Lebanese one which is also in Arabic.

Just now, EmmNM said:
Probably not, but why not just make a new letter, sign, scan and email it to him? It would take you like 5 minutes. Unless your passport is the one that is wrong. Then you are going to need to fix that.
Wait so it works if I just scan it and e-mail it to him? I sent a physical copy today to his address.
Does fiance visiting beneficiary affect affidavit of support?

Wouldn't the interviewer ask the beneficiary why he/she went for CR1 instead of K-1? And I'm sure "Because it's better" isn't a very good answer...
