  1. Hi,

We had our interview at the embassy 2 days ago. All went very smoothly. We had prepared our documents are per the request in the interview appointment letter and the subsequent email we received from the embassy.

We went to the first counter to show the original transcripts, letters of conduct, etc. After which we were asked to wait for the interview. At the interview, we took the oath, answered a few questions and were told to arrange for a translation of the France letter of conduct. They kept our passports and told us the passports would be ready in 2 weeks. All done.

Overall a very smooth process. I wasn't sure what the expect after having read some of the stories here on VJ but our experience was very positive!

  2. Hi,

Anyone had any experience with the EB-1 consular interview lately? I'm scheduled for my interview on April 17 here in Singapore and wouldn't mind hearing from recent experiences other users have had relating to the kind of questions asked, etc.

    Thanks!

    Peter

Not yet. Just called NVC they just received my case and said it takes up to 8 weeks to get it into their system.

have you gone through this process before and specifically with Toronto consulate?

I'm currently going through the process in Singapore. Our interview is scheduled for April 17.

Once they have entered your I-140 in their system you will get a notification to pay for the DS-260. I found entering the DS-260 quite easy but the systems tends to "time-out" so make sure you save regularly to prevent having to enter data again.

Hey hey! Where will you be moving to! And welcome!!!!!

There's no Citibank in GA unfortunately, I've heard the flexibility about them with foreigners opening accounts.

I used Chase, UOB, DBS, POSB to transfer funds using SGD account converting to USD.

You will probably lose on the conversion rates and transaction fees of 15USD (US banks, note there is also a fee from SG banks) but its alot more worth than bringing cash and ended up having federal withheld unless you already have a US bank account and status. I'm also just unlucky, because most people here did not have such experience with federal withheld.

As what I know Bank of America don't do federal withheld anymore, that's what the banker told me after I explained my experience with Chase.

I ended up opening an account with BofA because of this. (initially they did not accept me when I was on K1 too)

I came on a K1 visa, and opened the Chase bank account as a foreigner with my Singapore passport, and K1 visa status. Hence, this is why a sum was taken out as federal withheld every month until when my AOS was done and received my conditional, I came to realize that I have deductions in my bank. I did update them my information right away after getting my green card IN PERSON (they claimed they did not get it and it wasn't updated on their system) and they told me they won't be able to refund me money (tried to ask them for it couple of times) and said I'll have to ask IRS for it, so yeah I gave up on that.

I'm currently banking with UOB and Citi. We opened the Citi account specifically for the purpose of our US move and it seemed that a little CC history in Singapore with Citi might actually help in getting a decent CC with Citi in the US, or so they told me. It could have been a sales pitch though...I also understood from the Citi representative that if you transfer your account with Citi from Singapore to the US there will be minimal or no bank fees but it might be that only counts for CitiGold clients. Not sure.

Oh, we're looking to move to the DC area.

  5. Hi friends,

Just reaching out to anyone who has done a US Immigrant medical check in recent years in Singapore? I'm curious the learn about the process and how long it takes to get the results. Do we get to see the results before they send it in to the US embassy? Also, what is the experience any of you have with the vaccination schedule? I'm a Dutch national (Singapore PR) with an very old copy of the childhood immunizations. I'm curious to find out if the doctor at Fullerton Health will use the immunizations as an excuse to sell some additional immunizations...

Look forward to hearing your experiences.

  6. Thanks Broppy. I think I will spend some time later today calling the NVC in Portland, ME. Hopefully we can resolve it.

I don't think the issue was that the document needs to be translated. It seems from other websources and a fellow forum member from Sweded who experienced the same, that the NVC expects the Dutch CoC to be sent directly to the NVC or embassy of interview. However, that is not clearly stated on the website where any directions are given. So far the NVC has accepted all CoCs from other countries we submitted...

  7. HI Jill,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I guess I will have no other option but to spend my evening (I'm based in Singapore) on the phone with the NVC.

I share your frustration, the website is unclear on this and my lawyer was also caught off guard on this request from the NVC. All letters of conduct from other countries were accepted without any problems so it's a mystery as to why a Dutch letter of conduct would be treated differently.

    Regards,

    Peter

  8. Hi,

I received an email from the NVC in Portland, ME that they are missing my Certificate of Conduct from The Netherlands. I know I have submitted it so I'm a little lost as to why the NVC now claims that they didn't receive it. From websearches it seems that some US embassies will apply for the Certificate of Conduct, at least the US embassy in The Netherlands. I'm based in Singapore, which is also where I will have my interview.

Does anyone here have any experience as to how to handle this? Do I request a new Certificate of Conduct in The Netherlands and ask them to send it directly to the NVC in Portland, ME? What are the risks associated with this? How to ensure the new set of CoCs won't get lost at the NVC?

I look forward to learning how other people dealt with this.

    Thanks!

    Peter
