Karolina31 got a reaction from l-h in Naive mistake: should I withdraw K1 application?
Btw. I made even worse mistake - in my letter to the USCIS about our love story I mentioned that we will have a wedding in my home country (we applied for k1 visa), because at the time when we filed the petition I didn't know you couldn't have a wedding in your home country first, I just thought you then have to have another wedding in the US I just didn't do a good research on the visa first And our K1 was approved! We didn't get any letter from the USCIS mentioning this mistake, nor was it ever mentioned at the interview at the embassy. The interview was super easy and like 2 minutes long

I understand your wanting to celebrate your upcoming marriage.  You did nothing wrong.  A party in honor of your relationship in not a wedding.  I think that you would be fine for the K1 visa.  Keep the photos.  Make sure that when you go to the interview, you stress it was an engagement party or just how you explained it to us.  They really aren’t out to get you and to deny you unless you are lying.  I think many people overthink this because none of us wants to leave anything to chance.  I actually tried to get married in his country and was denied.  I told USCIS that we went on our honeymoon trip anyway because we’d paid for it.  I didn’t worry.  They don’t expect people sit in a corner with their hands folded.  You live life.  You should be fine for K1 or go for CR-1.  Nothing in life is guaranteed either way.  Good luck in your process.  I hope it is speedy and happy!

by the way, I was denied getting married in Egypt.  Not the K1 visa.  That is why we ended up applying for the K1.  My divorce papers were inadequate to their government.

If I were you, I would consult it with an immigration lawyer before you decide to withdraw your petition. They will give you an advice on what to do or how big of a problem it could be. Or wait to see if you get approved by USCIS. If you do, then you can explain everything at the embassy during your interview. But I think consulting a lawyer would be the best thing to do in this case.
