  1. As soon as I got on the link http://www.immigrationhealth.com/ICS.htm I was going to start my post by saying that it seemed like a rip off company pawning on immigrants. But then I clicked the link to see in network doctors, and surprisingly, the list was super long, and the other site http://www.hygeia.net/ seemed much more professional.

Did you ask your employer about adding your wife, or just the insurance company? Sometimes the employer may have to give the insurance company special authorization to add a person on mid-yr.

Yeah I even found my own Doctor on the lists so maybe it is for real. My family coverage is from my late wife's employer and I am considered a retiree (or survivor benefits) I don't have an employer to ask. I am self employed.

Also thanks to those who gave me the info on Blue Cross Blue shield and I will check with them as well

  2. I am having a difficult time finding health insurance for my new wife. Since she has not been here for 2 years I can't get an individual policy and my policy does not recognize,as they put it, life changes. I found a company called Insurance Services of America http://www.immigrationhealth.com/ICS.htm and was wondering if anyone has used them and if they know if they are a legitimate company. Thanks

  3. Thanks walls1010, not only will the Visa be issued in HK but her current passport is also issued in HK. I will research this some more in a week or so when I have some extra time but I am pretty sure you are right on this matter. And for anyone who is wondering, it is not to save $$$$ that we are concerned about this but there could be schedualing problems and wait time for the sticker that would be a problem during a short visit to Baguio City(not to mention a couple of extra bus trips to Manila).

  4. I'd be curious to see what others have to say about all this.

When she starts to exit the airport at Manila holding a Philippine Passport WITHOUT the CFO Authorization (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) - then expect that the Airport Authorities will be seeing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ signs for their pockets.

She very likely could be taken into a room and as the clock ticks - tic, tic, tic, tic - the plane starts it's engines - tic, tic, tic.

    It's not a pretty picture.

So are you saying that is only a requirement based on the type of Visa. As I said she has never had a problem traveling back and forth to Hong Kong for her employment. I know she was last home inAugust of 2005. For all I know she may already have the authorization. Do you happen to have a link where I could learn more about the CFO Authorization. Thanks

  5. Thanks, yep thats the one I was thinking of. My fiancee will already have her visa (K1) so she will not need to change her name or renew her passport. I wonder if she had to take the class before she went to HK even though she does not recall it. Also if she comes directly to the US will she have to take the class whenever she returns to the Philippines? I would hate to have her turned away from her flight over this in either case.

  6. My fiancee is a Filipina that has been living in Hong Kong for the last 18 years. She has traveled back and forth to visit her family when she is able with no problem. After she recieves her visa in HK she is thinking of going home to visit before coming here to Florida. I think I read that there is a course which is required for citizens of the Philippines to take before they leave the country. Can anyone tell me if that would apply to her(she would be there a week or two) and how easy is it to take so that you don't have a problem when you leave the country. Thanks for any help.

  7. Thanks, it turns out it was actually lost in the mail. They responed to my email and another packet will be sent out at once (at least thats what they said). Somehow the address got messed up. I asked for the phone number to schedual the interview but we will have to wait for the packet to arrive. At least it is the first (and hopefully the last) problem we have had.

  8. Nope, she can't drive or ride a bicycle. I'll do my best to teach her but driving school is an option that may work better. Life in Florida would be tough without being able to drive, especially in the summer time. Plus she will need to drive to her swimming lessons because there is no way I can teach that.

  9. Did not use a lawyer and did not find VJ until after I filed. I made a few mistakes (like form 325 instead of 325a) but fixed them after double checking and a couple of weeks of mailing back and forth. Also I did not include a cover letter, just the app and a list of attachments. Then again I think my case is very straightforward and would recommend that people use a lawyer for more complicated cases or if they are uncomfortable with filling out government forms. Even though I did not recieve an RFE even if I did the delay probably would not have been long enough for a cause of concern. That being said I am very happy I found VJ and I believe it will help make the rest of the process much easier for me.

  10. You guys should consider visiting Australia. Apart from the county being absolutely beautiful, it has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Similar to America but a lot more cleaner and much less BS

Mudd had it right, I think he was the author of the I129F

  11. Once married, your debt becomes her debt! Be sure she realizes this and what $40,000.00 of debt takes to pay off. Of course bankruptcy is an option. anyway you decide, let her know how serious this is!!!! and how it may affect your future credit, rental, purchases, credit cards, buying a house. etc!!!!

Good luck and just be honest with her.

I don't know about all states but that is not the case here in Florida. Here we are only respnsible for the debt that is in our name(of couse that would include any joint debt with any other person including your spouse).
