Welcome to the blackhole...patience takes on a whole new meaning !!!
Hi,just got back from our interview in Santa Ana office, California. Our interview was scheduled for 11:05 and we got there about 30 minutes earlier. After 5 minutes of waiting my name was called and our interveiew started. First think the officer said was that he cant approve our case today because of FBI name check. That it came out as ERROR because of Place of Brith, he said that it happens quiet often and that now USCIS has to apply for the name check again. I looked at the paper from FBI and the procesing date said 11/04/2006 (so I guess it means that the name check was done in november). Dont know how to understand this - does it mean that the person working for FBI forgot to write down my place of birth into the computer or whatever system they are using when running the name check? Anyway he said that that might take few weeks or few months. He said that they get a list with numbers from the FBI once a week saying which name checks have been completed.
Anyway so we knew that we are not going to get approved. Than he asked how and where we met. I said I was here on J1 visa and he asked, if I was planning on staying here and I said no until I met my husband. But then my J1 visa expired and I went back home and then my husband come over few times and then proposed so we applied for the K1 visa. He looked at the pictures quickly, made copies of my passport and the EAD card and said that once the name check is completed he will approve our case and we will receive the green card. The whole interview took aproximately 20 minutes, the guy was quite nice and try to explain us the situation with FBI. But still I am a bit confused..........
So now I am hoping that it wont take too long as our journey is already taking a long time.
This is my experience and I also have few questions. I didnt apply for the document which allows me to travel since I was hoping that I will get the green card soon but now since I can be stuck on the FBI name checks forever do you know how long it approximately takes to get it?
And also anyone had the similar experince? How long did it take to get a green card for you after waiting for the name check?
Thanks for your help.

Hi there
I've just got my K1 visa in the post today (hooray) and am now looking at trying to rearrange my life over to the good ole U S of A. I know I've obviously got to sort out moving money over there along with all my possesions, but I was wondering if anyone from th UK had any other hints or ideas as to what I need to sort out before I leave? What do you wish you'd done when you were still over here that would have made your move over to the States that much easier?
Any hints much appreciated as I've been so busy worrying about the whole visa process that I havent really thought about what comes next!
Thanks, James
I shipped my duvets (winter and summer) which have been a godsend I think most importantly keep in touch with people....by email if possible...I do have a credit card which I am having a heck of a time making the payments from here...I have to wire money to my UK bank account...will be glad when it is paid off :0) Of course eating a good curry or a bag of chips will keep u going to your next trip home

I regularly check the status of my application online on the USCIS site. The last status that has shown up was that they had sent a receipt (which is not quite the last thing that happened - I have done fingerprints in December).
Yesterday night and today in the early afternoon the online system has come up with a page to the effect that this receipt number does not exist. I have of course double- and triplechecked the number and it is saved in Internet Explorer when you type something in the field and used to work before, so I know it exists.
Does anybody else have or have had this? (I don't want my application to fall through the cracks.)
Hi....well....my file number actually got changed from the time I made the application and when I got to Cleveland for my interview......also my fingerprints taken with that file number were also gone..........so I have very little confidence in USCIS...I would call or make a infopass appt I have learnt to not assume everything is ok

Hi....I am in the same position..had my interview in May and they found my fingerprints and FBI check missing from the system...so...I was reprinted but my case is STILL pending my FBI name check. I have written to Washington DC and they are reviewing my case...but I think its like asking how long is a piece of string????? We have also informed our local congressman who did help me renew my employment authorization as it expired because this all is taking sooo long. I cannt help wondering if being from the UK we are subject to increased securety checks...which is fine just frustrating!! Good luck
My wife had her AOS interview March 8th and was told that she was successful, but final approval was pending for the FBI name check. Are there others out there in the same position?
Do we have an average for how long they take to complete the task, or is it another one of those cases where we just have to sit and wait until it happens?
Thanks,
G

Hi.....can any suggest what we can do next!!!!
We filed for K1 visa and it was granted Aug 2005. I arrived in the USA August 2005, married in September 2005. We applied for my adjustment of status and employment authorization in September 05. I had biometrics taken in Jan 06 and received my EAD a few weeks later. I went for my AOS interview in May 2006...interview went well, my application was approved...BUT... when the immigration officer went to the computer to pull up my fingerprints and FBI they were gone from the system. Also my file number had been changed somewhere between the two applications. So........I had new biometrics taken in May 2006 in Cleveland. I was told to expect my green card in about 6 weeks......I am still waiting. To complicate matters, my employment authorization ends 12/05/2006....I have a job I love and want to continue working. I applied for a renewal in sept 2006, went for biometrics on 09/30/06......am still waiting!!!!! What do I do? Who can I contact? Time is running out and all I ever get if I contact immigration is....your applications are still pending.........please tell me something I dont know!!!! Can I show up at Cleveland to do a emergency renewal for my EAD? Any advice would be appreciated
