Apologies if this has been asked before. I have browsed the last 8 pages and didn't see anything of similar entities.

I applied for ROC in July 2016, and N400 in May 2017, based on the 3 year marriage ruling. I was interviewed in April 2018 for my N400 and advised that I would be approved, and I should hear back from them in 7-10 days for an oath date. In May 2018, I received a letter saying that my ROC had been transferred to NBC to speed up processing times. However after several infopass appointments, all the officers have advised me that my ROC is actually in Orlando (my field office) and not at the NBC hq. I have filed online out of processing times, and got the generic 'you should hear back in 90 days' and I am still to hear back. I have called the 800 number and been told that the dates are just an approximation and they vary. So, the last thing I can think of is to contact my congressperson. I have figured out who she is and how to contact, my question to the good people of Visa Journey is, what should I be telling her. Am I better to give too much information or is it best to keep it short and sweet? This is the final straw, as my patience has now worn thin and I am running out of ideas, to bring this long drawn process to an end. Obviously I have never gone through this before, so any help is much appreciated,

    Thanks in advance.

Congressman often has a form on his/her website to be filled with your case and all the information you need to share so they can check your case on behalf of you. From my experience with congressman in this matter, I strongly advice you to contact yours, and mention all your case details so they can help. They will have you fill in a form as an authorization so they can follow up on your case.

    Best wishes.

I am getting ready to file my father's paperwork too. My father is also a widower and I will attach my mom's death certificate, because there some questions about the date of marriage termination. I guess when my mom died, that is considered as the date of marriage termination.

Then, I am also attaching my marriage certificate because on Form I-130 Part 2, they ask for your spouse's name.

    Good luck!

I agree with the way they consider death certificate as a marriage termination.

But for the part of questions about spouse's name, I don't think they need my marriage certificate since I'm the husband with no name change. right?

    Hey semsem,

Normally, we just send all the photocopies of the docs when we send in our application. There might be some instances that they will ask for the original copy (or copies) but that is rare. However, during the interview ( your Mom's interview) which would happen at a later date, they will ask for the original copies.

Now after you got married, did you change your last name and take your husband's last name? Hence, the reason why you need to send in your marriage certificate.

With your mom's being a widowed, I would send in the death certificate of her husband too.  Sending her marriage certificate won't hurt in the process.

(Ok, with my case, my Mom was married twice - to my dad and to her second husband and unfortunately  she's a widowed twice. I sent in both her marriage certificates and the death certificates of her 2 husbands too).

    Hope this helps.

Like others said, it is better to send in more than less. Again, best of luck!

    Hi dzyrhetom,

Sorry for your mom, I hope she is able to pass it.

I will go ahead and send the copies along with the certified translation.

I'm a married male with no name change, do I still need to send my marriage certificate?

Now, I think I have to wait until I get my dad's death certificate then translate it to be included.

BTY, any recommendation for a certified translation service online? I couldn't find any cheaper than $60 per page.

    Hey semsem,

You don't need to send the original.  You are only required to send photocopies of those said documents mentioned above, unless they ask for it ( maybe during the interview).

Now, are you married? If so, please don't forget to send in a copy of your marriage certificate. If your Mom is married too, I might as well send a copy of her marriage certificate as well. In addition to your naturalization certificate, I also send in a copy of the biographical page of my passport  just to show proof of domicile.

    Best of luck.

Thank you dzyrhetom for your reply.

But let me ask you about which interview you refer to? Are they going to interview me? Or my mom's interview for the immigrant visa?

Now, yes I'm married, but I'm surprised why should I include my marriage certificate in my mom's application?

Also, my mom is widowed, do I still need to send in a copy of her marriage certificate?

I don't have a passport yet, should I wait until I get a passport to include the biographical page? I believe the naturalization certificate is sufficient, isn't it?

You got most of them right, but, you don't send the Naturalization Certificate, a copy would suffice.

I would also include your dad's death certificate as well.  If you someone goes to the Department of Civil Matters in Cairo, you can get an original that is split in half (Arabic and English) similar to that little blue one. You should only send copies.

I don't think you need to send photos to be honest.

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my questions.

I won't be able to get my dad's death certificate any soon, do you think it might get my application delayed if I didn't include it? I think it is required at the time of visa application DS-260 if I remember correctly.

Here is a summary of my interview I had at the Santa Ana field office on 9/21. It was a very busy day, I had to wait more than an hour past my appointment time to be called in.

During the interview, my frequent and long absences from the country was a concern for the IO. He asked about the nature of my travels. He printed out all my travel history from a system he accessed and checked against all my dates of travel as filled in by me on my application form.

    Questions:

Where is the Statue of Liberty?

    Governor of California

    Speaker of the House

What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?

What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

What is the highest court in the United States?

    He asked me to read:

"Who lives in the White House"

    and asked me to write:

"The President lives in the White House"

He fixed one question that I had accidentally left unanswered on my N400 form.

He had me sign the oath and corrections on the ipad and said he'd recommend me for citizenship.

He congratulated me but indicated that his supervisor would need to approve as well and that I might be scheduled for the ceremony on 10/23 or 11/14 depending on the supervisor approval and the availability of space in the 10/23 ceremony.

The same night my status changed to "You attended your interview". I was kind of concerned as I was expecting "your case is approved" or something like that.

I called the USCIS contact center after waiting for a few days without any updates. They told me there is nothing wrong and that is the normal procedure.

After 2 weeks of no activity, I signed up for an infopass appointment. The  infopass officer explained to me that my case was under supervisor review and that was routine. He just told me to wait for at least 90 days before getting another infopass appointment where they might be able to escalate the case. BTW, the infopass officers are really helpful sorting things out. They helped several people before me whose cases were stuck one way or another and they were able to resolve those.

On 10/11 (21 days after my interview)  I received the following updates in a row:

    • Your Case Status: Post Decision Activity

We recommended that your Form N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, be approved. On October 11, 2018, your case was submitted for quality review. This is a standard process we use to ensure the quality of our decisions. Once our quality review is done you will be scheduled for an oath ceremony

    • Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony

We placed you in line for your oath ceremony and will send you a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony. You should receive your notice within 30 days of its mailing date. Please follow the instructions in the notice.

    • Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony

We scheduled your oath ceremony. We sent a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony to the address you gave us. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by November 10, 2018, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice.

I was scheduled for the ceremony on the 10/23.

I attended my oath ceremony yesterday at LA Convention center with 3,500 other fellow applicants (now citizens) from 116 different countries. The top 5 countries of origin by the number of participants were Mexico, China, Philippines, El Salvador, and Iran.

It was a very efficient and emotional event.

I was in the afternoon session (scheduled for 1:30 but the judge arrived at 1:15 and started the ceremony). I was out in 2 hours.  I parked in the West Hall Parking Lot but the ceremony was at the South Hall. There was a big tech conference going on at the West Hall as well. Parking cost was $20.

    I hope this is helpful,

Many congrats, time to celebrate. :)

Preparing for my upcoming interview.  Wondering if anyone has experience with the Baltimore, MD field office?  Is it a straight forward process:  Sworn in to tell the truth, asked about N-400 application, asked 10 civic questions, writing, and reading test?  Are they trying to find ways to fail certain people?  I read on a review that they asked the person questions back to their K-1 application when he was their for his N-400.

If you're applying based on 3-years rule, you might expect many questions about the relationship with your spouse since the time you both established it.

But with 5-years rule application, it will be general questions.

    Good luck to you.

  13. I have read about this issue several times, it seems that after the IO decides to request more evidences, s/he changed his mind and grant the approval instead, which is a good sign.

The other issue like this I read about was about an IO decided to request more supporting documents from other government office. In this case the RFE letter won't appear to you.

However, hang in there and don't be stressed. Good luck my friend.

ya that's  only option i think i have!

Hey Somia, take it easy and calm down, everything will be OK. You just hang in and wait for your ceremony notice within couple days, and then you will forget every single hard moment when you take the oath.

BTY, my interview was way worst than you, and beside I got the recommendation for approval on site, the case still doesn't reflect any updates.
