  1. This is a tricky one...

For Visa Waiver citizens, it appears to not be illegal, but is at the discretion of the officer at the POE. My wife, who is French, flew CDG --> Heathrow, Heathrow --> Seattle this past Sunday. 2 hours after the plane landed, and the baggage from the flight was no longer in Baggage claim, I was about to cry, when she came out of the arrivals area... Immigration asked her "What are you doing in the USA?" She said "visiting my husband" they said "does he live here?" She said yes. They asked, why don't you live here, she said "Because I am still working in Paris". He said "welcome to the USA".....

Now, my wife said she picked the guy who seemed to be scruitinizing people less, and she was the last person in line outside of the plane's crew, so perhaps he was ready to get finished....

    Best of luck!

  2. Hey all,

KittyKat & Cecile bring up an interesting thing from our journey.... I am from Western NC, where Cecile is now. My dad lives in a town with no stop-light. That's just fine with me :) I love the countryside.

My wife on the other hand, is like KittyKat - from Paris. She told me straight out that she wouldn't live in a small town, and so we picked Seattle, as it is big enough to have plenty of big-city life, but we've only got to drive a little bit to be out in the woods.

KittyKat - Can you move? With no car in a small town in the USA, its pretty darn difficult! Unless you are a super cyclist....

Cecile - Where are you? I lived in Asheville, Boone, and Crabtree (outside of Waynesville). My wife does like Angelica's restaurant in Boone and Earth Fare in Asheville. She says average French food is better than average american (et je suis d'accord) but that she is amazed by our organic supermarkets, as she's never really seen that before (et ca c'est aussi vrai, meme lorsque nous avons habite a Paris nous n'avons pas vu qqch. comment Earth Fare ou Wellspring - il y avait juste le petit Co-ops).

I do miss the 5 weeks of vacation I had in Paris, but I make SO much more money here.... And, there is so much more wilderness! But it is true that our public transport, even in a city as "left" as Seattle, SUCKS.

    a plus tard,

    -B

  3. Hello all,

I'm the USC here, although I hope to be French soon as well (married for more than 2 years, one of which was in France, and speak the language).

My wife is from Essone (91), and I lived there with her for a year and a half.

France is an interesting place. I did a lot of cycling while I was there, so I fell like I really got to learn it.

Luckily, the 24 hour supermarket down the street from me here in Seattle has Bleu de Causses, Roquefort Papillion, and Sel de Ile de Re. I just wish I could find some of that Bretagne butter....

  4. I'm in the same boat and visiting my husband in the US on Wednesday. First time since we were married (2.5 weeks ago). I'm bringing a letter from my employer along with his business card and my business card, recent bank statements (along with my cashed cheque for rent), US cash, recent utility bills, pay stubs...

    Anything I'm missing?

    Hey Misa,

Just wondering how it went for you.... Bea is supposed to arrive next Sunday, and I'm getting nervous. She has a letter from her employer, who is an attorney, indicating that she has to come back to work. She even has a certfied translation of the letter into english. But that's all she has, as she is staying with her parents for the moment (as we have no idea when she will get to come over, so no sense in renting).

  5. After receiving conflicting information about the possibility of a visit while in Process, we have decided to go for it anyways. It appears that it ultimately comes down to the decision of the agent who my wife will meet at the Seattle Airport.

We've filed I-130, and that's it (although I expect NOA1 soon, and thus the filing of I-129F), but it has already been 2 and half months since we've seen each other, so a visit is in order!

So, she's going to try to come for a few weeks over Christmas. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

  6. My first post here...

We are kicking ourselves for not knowing more of what we were doing, but life moves so fast, and now we are separated.

We met in Business School in Germany. She came to the USA twice on 90 day visa waivers while I finished my last year of school. Then we went to France and did all this craziness over there, got married in July 04. I got my Carte de Sejour (like a green card) and we lived in France while she finished her Bac +4 (University). I worked.

Then, we went to the UK, which was a breeze compared to the USA and France, I was able to make my appointment online, went to the consulate in Paris, got my UK residency in a matter of weeks. I was UK resident on a "Spouse of EU Citizen" visa, as my wife was doing a Masters at LSE. So, we lived in the UK for a year, and decided to come back to the USA. So now here I am, apart from her for the first time since we got married two and half years ago.

    This sucks!

Thank god for the internet though....
