  1. Yeah, he lives there. And nope, I haven't visited. And having a LOT of doubts, probably mostly due to that fact. :/

Portland is a beautiful City! My wife and I live just up the Freeway in Seattle. She is also from Istanbul. There is so much to do if you like the outdoors, great shopping malls and just about anything you want. We often will go to Portland for long weekends and to just relax. As far as crime goes, it is a "metropolitan city" for American standards. There will be no more crime in Portland than Taksim at 2:00 AM. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck on your journey!

  2. Evidence looks good. How about something to show either you or your wife as the other's beneficiary? Life insurance, medical insurance, investments? I think with what you have, you shouldn't be too worried about the affidavits.

About the phone bill and the bank statements though .. ensure that they span the time between receiving the 2 yr. conditional green card and now. They are not just looking for a snapshot of now, but a history of living together as a married couple.

Thank you for all the pointers. I am going to call my insurance agent and have him fax over proof my wife is on my policy. I also now have a copy of our health insurance card showing the same account information for both of us.

    Thanks so much!!

  3. If you want advice on whether or not to include them, you could post your list of evidence that you plan to include here and we can give it the once over for you.

    That is a good idea!

Below is what I have included on my cover letter:

    • Completed I-751 form

    • Addendum to I-751

    • Copy of wifes Green Card (front and back)

    • AT&T Phone bill showing joint ownership

    • Copy of Booking receipt and confirmation showing we traveled to Istanbul for vacation

    • Loan Servicing Center showing Wife and I joint on our home mortgage and a printout showing Current Loan Information for our mortgage

    • A total of 4 bank statements (2 for me and 2 for wife) along with a signed letter from my credit union stating our accounts are held jointly

    • IRS tax transcripts showing wife and I have filled jointly for tax years 2006, 2007 and 2008

    • 14 color photographs showing wife and I with friends and family

Let me know what you think...

    Thanks!

  4. Hello All,

So I am getting ready to send in my I-751 form for my wife and I have a question. My packet is pretty much assembled and I am ready to mail it to California. While reviewing the instruction sheet, it explains how a sworn affidavit by 2 people that personally know my wife and I can be used as proof of marriage. Is this a requirement? Or is it a general guideline of what can be used? I feel like I have lots of supporting documentation of our marriage. Thanks in advance for your input!

  5. Hi,

If I get the US citizenship and go back to my country permanently after that,

do I have to come back to US on regular basis like 5 years or something like that so as not to lose my Us citizenship?

    Thanks.

Normally have a good imagination, but can't seem to imagine why you want to become a USC if you don't intend to stay here. Can't be SS benefits, would make a lot more money sticking FICA taxes in a bank. And if you are not here, do you really care which group of idiots we elect to run this country?

Once my wife receives citizenship, we plan on moving back to her country and giving things a try there. We LOVE to travel and having a US passport makes traveling much easier--Visa free. If we do decide to move back to the states, we wont have to go through getting another GC.

  6. Hello All,

An American friend of mine married a Turk a little over a year ago. Everything has gone pretty smoothly, and they just had their interview for their Green Card in Turkey. Unfortunately, the officer is requiring a sponsor as my friend didn't have any stated income in 2007. He has asked me to step in and sponsor his wife as I have sufficient income for the last few years. Also, I married a Turk that has been living in the US for 2 years now, and we will apply to remove her conditions in mid 2009. My question is: If I agree to sponsor a my friend and his wife, can it mess up the stuff I have going on with my wife? Also, what are the possible repercussions if something were to go wrong? I really want to help out my buddy, I just do not want to jeopardize anything I have going on with USCIS.

I appreciate your replies in advance.

    Thank you!

  7. Hello,

My wife and I are considering moving to back Turkey once she receives US citizenship. I thought I heard somewhere that if you work for a US company, and they have you stationed outside the US and my wife is with me, that still counts towards the 3 year residency requirement for US citizenship...any thoughts as to whether or not that is a true statement?

    Thank you!!!

  8. IF she was given a ban it would have been in the form of an Expedited Removal AND she would have been told. She would have been given a stack of about seven sheets of paper, had fingerprints taken, and been advised of the ban and possibly have a stamp in the passport.

There are ways to apply to remove the ban both for non-immigrants and for those wishing to immigrate to the U.S. Some attorneys even advocate trying to have the removal overturned.

One thing she does not want to do is attempt to enter the U.S. again before finding out exactly where she stands. If she ends up deciding to immigrate to the U.S. with her boyfriend, she would need to file an I-212 to remove the ban.

There can also be other charges in addition to the ER that can cause other problems and other waivers. . .you would definitely need to know if she was formally removed and see the charges on the paper to know exactly what she will need to do to be eligible to reenter the U.S.

Thank you emt103c! This is exactly what I was looking for. I will forward your post to my friend, and hope they can work past all of this.

    Thanks again!!

  9. The answers to your questions depend on a couple of things. Is your friend's GF from a visa waiver program country? If not, did she have a valid visa to travel to the US? If she is banned from re-entry, then it should be in her passport, or she should have been advised of that at the POE. The reason for the refusal of entry is of note....why was she not allowed entry? In other words, there are situations in which entry is refused someone, and it has no ramifications on any future visas or attempts to enter at the POE, but there are cases in which the refusal to enter can trigger a ban....for which a waiver may or may not be available. Too many variables, perhaps you can clarify a bit.

    Good luck,

    -P

I don't really know the answers to your questions right now. This all just happened last night. I do know that she is from a country that participates in the VWP. I am not sure if she received a stamp in her passport banning her from entering the US. I think they send her back home because they officer at the POE thought they had intended on marrying each other while in the US.

  10. Hello Everyone,

I have a friend (USC) that traveled to the US with his girlfriend (non US citizen) and his girlfriend was denied entry at the POE. My question is what does this mean for the future if they decide to the the K1 or K3 visa? Is she banned from the US for 5 years? Are they going to have to file some type of waiver? If they do need to file a waiver, how much processing time does this add to their case?

    Thanks in advance!

  11. Hey Julia,

When I filled out all the paperwork for Duygu's K3 Visa, I did not include province information on the paperwork. When it came time to entering her address information, I simply listed Istanbul, Turkey and Bursa, Turkey and I never had any problems.

As for the processing time information on the USCIS website, I would take it all with a grain of salt. I did not find those processing times to be effective in my case. Sometimes I would get updates and approvals before the processing dates listed on the website, sometimes it would be the opposite.

I hope you had a good Christmas.

I look forward to visiting Turkey soon!

    Matt

  12. My Russian wife has a 17 year old son. Next October in must enter the Russian army for mandatory service. My wife wants to return to Russia to see him off as any mother would want to do. I have heard it's difficult to travel on the 129F visa. Yes? Assuming she gets the 129f before October 08, what can she do to visit Russia?

What's the story on international travel with 129F?

If your wife comes to the US on a K3 Visa, she should have no problem leaving and re-entering the US, as it is a multiple entry Visa. I beleive the Visa is valid for 2 years after the issue date.
