Yes, I don't think you can schedule the appointment until P4 has been received. I'm attaching an except from the P4 email we received. The second bullet point is the one talking able scheduling the appointment.

Cheers for the good info! Do you mind sending me the packet3 they sent you so we can be better prepared ? My fiancee will be out of the country at the time so we'd like to get the paperwork done first.

No, you need to have P4 from the local embassy before you can schedule the interview. From the day you get NOA2 you can expect it to take a little under 2 months until your actual interview. Here is a breakdown based on our recent experience:

    • After we received NOA2 it took about 1 month for it to get assigned a case number
    • It then took about 1 week for the case to actually arrive in Guangzhou
    • It took about 1 week to get P3 from the embassy and then yet another week to get P4
    • After receiving P4 and being able to schedule the interview the earliest date we were able to snag was in about 2 weeks

2 weeks from P4 to interview doesn't seem too bad. Why do they send 2 packets? Why not just one?

  3. Currently expecting NOA2 in the next month - but just wanted to ask:

I understand once we get our NVC case number, we can schedule an interview. Some countries it's in a few days, others its a few months. Where does china fall on this list?

How far out is the closest available date for K1 interviews in China? Is there somewhere to see this without a case number?

    Thanks

  4. My fiancee is currently waiting for NOA2, but her parents want to come to America to meet my parents - so we will be applying in Shanghai for B2 tourist visas for fiancee, mother, and father. I've told them it's a long shot, but we are staying optimistic that they will grant them the visas since it's just to visit my parents before we get married, scope out future living arrangements, look at wedding venues etc.

I know it's a long shot, but we are bringing ad much evidence as we can. Wish us luck! Anyone else been in the same situation ?

Wow. This is appalling. There's nothing to even recognise that they are now working far beyond an expected or reasonably fair processing period.

If I may ask, what reasoning did you provide for expediting? I'm curious if they're even being hard-lined on loss of in

They have made us lose a considerable amount of money... she quit her job earlier because  she thought she would be here soon, and we have moved places thinking we only had a month or 2 left. But fiancee is abused by her family physically and mentally in her home country, and the police consider stuff like that a "family matter" so they don't do anything to help her.

My representative asked for an expedite on humanitarian reasons, and we provided pictures (of bruises etc.), written statement, amongst other things. Still just a flat denied.

  6. July 13 filer here. When we filed, the average times for this part we're 3-5 months and we made all of our plans around that...so this waiting has messed up a lot of things. I got my congressman involved and they sent a request to expedite to the USCIS, but they can deny if they want. Here is hoping! Also going to try to get her a tourist visa with her parents so they can meet my parents and see what America is like.

Hi, I got approved on November 7th and still waiting to get my case number from the NVC . I was told average time is between 4 to 6 weeks, but you should start calling the NVC after 15 days. ask for the case number, and give it to your fiancé to complete/submit the form online, make payment, and schedule interview date. you can read reviews here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Algeria

My fiancée is in Algeria, I can keep you posted.  Good Luck!

You can schedule an interview even before the consulate receives your petition and sends you a packet?

  8. I know getting a tourist visa for a fiancee when the K1 is pending is pretty rare, but I wanted to know if our chances increase when we throw in her parents? Her parents want to meet my parents in the USA and want to apply for a tourist visa - but they don't speak English and them coming without their daughter would be a waste of time. They have jobs/obligations/house/cars etc. in their home country so I don't see why they would get rejected.

We will be honest with the interviewer about the pending K1 and explain that the parents want to meet the parents BEFORE the future wedding. Has anyone been in this situation? I know most long time posters on this site will say "tourist visa during K1 is impossible, move on", but I don't think that's the case - it's just more difficult.

She is from China, if that helps.
