A: Naturalization certificate has new name on it.When you are checking in they will ask you to check if everything is correct on naturalization certificate, the new name and everything.

A: you will also receive another name change court document. This document is very important make copies of it. You have to submit for SSN office, Secretary state(drivers license), Banks, employer etc. 

You are making a good choice by applying passport soon after your oath, you will receive in 3-5 days (only at Detroit passport agency not USPS or other locations) and also apply for passport card if you travel often to Canada. By the way after getting my passport I made changes in above following offices (The point is passport is your new US identification and you no need to carry naturalization certificate.). Just carry passport and name change document from court to all the above places.After receiving my passport first thing I did was apply new drivers license then ssn, banks, employer etc.

If you have morning ceremony then you have time to apply for the passport. For afternoon ceremony you cannot make it, the passport office closes at 2:30. 

On the day of oath they will give you a packet in which there will be a passport form. If you want you can download and write all the information down and when they give you the new one just enter everything on the form. They will also give you "register to vote" form which they will request you fill and hand it back to them, but I didn't fill it. I waited and got it done at secretary of state when I was applying for new drivers license(I had a name change).

Congrats....

Yes leave it blank and fill that on the day of oath. When you enter the court they will ask you to stand in a line and ask you all the Yes/No questions. You can fill at that time. (Just a headsup till your Oath make sure you needed to be "No" for that all questions. No police, no arrest, citation etc....)

Yes for Oath just Green card and Notice of Naturalization Oath ceremony. No other documents.

If you want to apply passport then make sure you have 2 passport size photos and necessary information for applying pasport.

It will take more than 2-3 hours.... There is parking in front of the court house. If you have morning ceremony you can apply passport across the street at Detroit passport agency after ceremony and you will get in a week(expedite $60 more) or apply in USPS passport office for standard 2+weeks delivery. Yes, you can do the passport anywhere that accepts passport applications. The only advantage of doing it there, is that you don’t have to submit the original certificate. 

Keep in mind that if the certificate gets lost and you have to get a new one, it will cost you almost $600.

Either way, but if you need it fast, the Detroit office is your best bet.  My co-worker's wife needed an expedited passport and he told me it took less than an hour to get it there.

Question about Passport!

I have my oath ceremony on 23rd August Thursday at 1 PM.  By the time I finish my oath I think I cannot make it to the nearest passport agency in Detroit to apply expedited passport. They close by 2:30 PM.  My question is should I apply only in Detroit passport agency? or can I apply anywhere, there is a near by passport office in USPS post office where I live.

Detroit filer!

Had my interview on Aug 1st at 11:20 AM. Reached 20mins before to the office. A lady called me around 11:25 AM. Exchanged the greetings, she was polite. She first started with a brief process of test and told me to raise right hand and asked me to swear. Afterwards she started the civics test. My civics test was exactly the same as @CheeseMonstah (copied the questions)

First reading, writing:

She then handed me a piece of paper and asked me to read "who elects congress?", and then gave me a blank piece of paper and asked me to write "the people elects congress".

Then she asked me:

- who wrote the declaration of independence

- who is the commander in chief of the armed forces

- what are the two major political parties in the US

- what is the political party of the president

- name a state that borders Mexico

- name 3 of the original 13 colonies

Later she asked all yes or no questions. She helped me in explaining the questions if I didn't understand any. She  was nice but not friendly. Later she asked whatever documents and asked me if I want to change my name. I already requested a name change in my form, but this time I want to change my last name. I asked her and she said OK. I changed my last name. That's it! At last she asked me to sign on the iPad that whatever we discussed and changes to my form. She said I need some more documents, I will mail you and mail me by 33 days. She also told that I think I should have your document in this files I received, I have your background check information here. Anyways I gave her all the copies whatever she asked(I had all the documents copies, not originals). I said OK and she took me outside the interview room. While leaving she said thank you, send the documents in time and I replied Thank you mam, I really appreciate your help and patience, bye. No shake hand nothing. Came outside with a gentle smile. 

My interview was 20-25 mins, reached home by 1 PM. Around 4 PM I received two emails, 1st post decision activity and 2nd was oath ceremony. WOW!! I thought my case will be delayed because she asked me to send documents. Anyways I am thinking may be she found the document or the supervisor gave an approval that whatever documents I gave were sufficient. I received another email yesterday about status update, status changed to Oath ceremony scheduled. Today morning received one more email about case update, check the case status Oath scheduled on 23rd August. 

I did some research on Oath ceremony after reading some forums.

Oath ceremony in Detroit:

Once you are approved you will have your oath after 21 to 25 days difference unless you have RFE and only on Monday and Thursday twice a day ceremony.

On 1) per my interviewing office, virtually all Detroit area oaths are judicial anyway, so requesting a name change does not delay anything.  Now, if you're not from Detroit metro or nearby, your oath may happen elsewhere, so no clue about those.

I have few questions! please help me.

1) I have requested for a name change on my N400 application. How often does Detroit administer judicial ceremony? Can anybody explain the name change process for Detroit state / any experiences? Did it delay the oath ceremony? 

2) I have requested a name change on my application, I requested new first name and kept my last name. Now I want to change my last name. Is there any chance I can change my last name in interview? does this delay the process?

Today I was going through all the documents I have and making sure that I am set for the interview. Recently I have ordered my tax transcripts from IRS 15 days ago. Unfortunately I found out that tax transcripts requested from IRS for the year 2012 and 2013 tax information is missing. Inside the envelope it says "Tax return transcripts are only available for the current and three prior processing years. If the transcript you are requesting is for an older year a return transcript is no longer available. Account transcripts are available for older years and may provide the information you need". What should I do now? please help me.

FYI... I was only able to request 2014,2015,2016,2017 tax transcripts from IRS Website. As I couldn't see 2012 and 2013 years tax transcript on website, I called IRS and requested them. 

It depends on state to state and how many people have applied, don't worry! be patient. I am from Michigan and I applied in December 2017 and had my biometrics in January 2018. I got my Interview update last week.

I have applied for US Citiznship N400 in December. I am done with Biometrics and waiting for the Interview letter. 

I have few questions about my change of SSN and Name.

So yesterday I got a fraud call from USCIS number and asked about my AR-11 form(Change of Address). He said that I didnt update my Change of address information to USCIS and I was doing something fraud. He also said that as I didnt send my AR-11 form to USCIS I should be arrested and get deported. I told him that I always send AR-11 form whenever I change my address and do not see this as a big Issue. The guy was so strong that he convinced and me believe that I did some mistake and I slowly started to listen and I gave my Alien number and my Identitiy. Now I am worried that he has my information. I was on call for more than 2 hours continously and I am sure that he hacked my phone and my identity. I was at my workplace and told me to go my house and get my passport and then I should be deported. I was so dumb and I believed him and went to home on Uber (He requested me to take Uber, as I do not have my own car). When I was booking Uber ride I felt that the hacker was doing something to my Uber app because I was unable to see the car, car model , car driver or his phone number. when I got into car, I felt like I was being kidnapped. The fraud threatened me that I should not reveal the call to any Third party and if so the police have surveillance and following me and they will arrest me. He didn't talk to me when I was in car but he was on hold. I reached my home and started asking questions. I told him my Alien number. Now I am scared that this guy has all my Identity. Anyways I caught him and I said that I have to check with nearest police station. Then he hangup and never called me. I know this is dumb but when real time comes people may act like me.

Anyways after all this and my past relationship with my ex, I want to change my SSN number and Name. 

SSN Question: One more incident happened in the past, My ex has used my SSN without my permission. I wanted to change that time but I forgot. Now I am really concerned to change it. Should I change my SSN number now or should I wait till my interview and change it afterwards?

Name change: My present name is "FN-xxxx, LN-Same".  I have already mentioned on my N400 form that I want change my name to "FN-yyyy, LN-Same" but now I am thinking to change it to "FN-zzzz, LN-different" name. Is it possible? Can I change my last name too? Please help me.
