Hi guys, hope all is well!

Just a quick update on my process, nothing exciting,

but I received my biometrics notice today.

It's slow, but at least it's moving and not being forgotten 😶

    12/1/2021 - I-751 sent

    12/3/2021 - I-751 delivered

    12/6/2021 - Received text

12/8/2021 - Received NOA 1/24 months extention letter

    4/28/2022 - Received biometrics notice

    5/17/2022 - Biometrics

    Hi Violax,

After receiving my 2 year extension back in december, I also received by biometrics notice last week. It stated I don't require another appointment. Yes I'm glad they are back working on it and not requesting us to pay another $680!

Well, fingers crossed we don't have to pay again.

  2. I submitted back on 11/26/2021 and received my text confirmation of receipt on December 2. I haven't heard back from them and sent a inquiry on my case status on 1/03/2022. they sent a reply on 1/11/2022 saying

"On 01/03/2022, you contacted USCIS concerning your I-751 to notify us that you have not received your biometrics appointment notice. Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved.
Currently, any Application Support Center (ASC) that is open is operating in a limited capacity and thus we are still encountering delays with the scheduling of some biometrics appointments.
Please visit our website for possible USCIS office closures as this information may change daily: https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/uscis-office-closings .
If you do not receive a notice of action regarding your case, please note that when USCIS again resumes normal operations, USCIS will automatically reschedule Application Support Center (ASC) appointments due to the office closures. If you do not receive a new appointment notice by mail within 90 days from the time when your local ASC office re-opens, call 800-375-5283.
All USCIS office closures (including ASC closures) are posted on www.uscis.gov .  For up to date closure information, visit the USCIS Office Closures page."

after reading a lot of comments from people saying their getting 24 month extensions, I try not to worry about this.

One question- Prior to getting any letter regarding an extension, is it too risky to plan a trip to leave the country when my green card is already expired? I was considering it in the next 4 months but just wanted some advice.

    thank you!

  3. Hello everyone!
i have a question about the first snail mail notice that comes in after they received your package. I sent my package on 11-26 and received a text on 12/1 stating they received it and I should receive a mail notice shortly on the next steps. However, it’s now 12/31 and I haven’t received a letter yet from USCIS. I tried going through the automated system and can’t figure out how to check if they’ve already sent it out.
i am located in Bay Area, California and sent my package to:

    USCIS
    Attn: I-751
    P.O. Box 21200
    Phoenix, AZ 85036-1200
Any suggestions? Getting kind of nervous

  4. I recently had my AOS interview in mid December, got approved same day and received our card in one week. my wife and I brought our CA ID's, DL's, Socials, Passport,  Joint Bank Statements, lease agreements,  biometrics, Birth & marriage certificate, photo album, the entire I-485 package (including i-765,i-131,i-864), and whatever documents I received in the mail. However, the interviewer just asked for our ID's and passport and that's all we presented. He mainly wanted to see how she's adjusting to her new lifestyle.

Regardless of what you read, just try and bring whatever possible that is listed on your interview notice. Those are the main documents you should have to prepare for this.

  5. I think I know that answer to my question but i'll just ask.

I noted one address on my I-485 application, which is my parents home.

I ended up moving to a apartment nearby due to personal reasons, but haven't reported that address to USCIS.

We can still receive mail from my parents home without a issue. And that's how I received my notice for the interview.

I have my interview very soon and I forgot to report the change..all my documents shows the new address within the past six months... Am I in trouble here?

PD 07/16/18. Had my interview in the San Jose office on 09/0619, still no answer. I submitted an inquiry and they said they’re “still reviewing my case” 🙄

Hi, I'm having my first AOS interview in 2 weeks at the San Jose Office. How long did you have wait after the interview to hear anything from your case? I'm nervous because we booked a trip in January and I'm worried about how long this process takes and if there's a "second interview" involved..

Everything that was asked for in the notice of interview was taken with photocopy to the interview. We took the following for evidence of bona-fide marriage:

Lease, car insurance, documentation from Tricare, life insurance documentation, one joint utility bill, 2018 tax return; all with both of our names; my wife also has her dependent ID from the DoD, the DEERS enrollment when I added her as my dependent; also took about 50 photos of us together from meeting to now, photos of the wedding, etc.

We have one join account together at Navy Federal which she uses for incidentals and daily expenditures especially when I'm on duty not at home. so each month I'll place a couple hundred in the join account for her to use. But most all of the bills and payments come from the main account which is in my name since that's where I get my paycheck from the military. She doesn't work so she doesn't handle finances in the U.S. As of today since she's spent a good chunk of this month's cash the join account only had about 30 dollars in it. The IO asked if there's a reason there's not just one joint account instead of a join and one personal account for each of us and I told him that;s the account that I get my paycheck in and only military members are allowed to have it (active duty checking). I think he was a little concerned with the account thing.

However everything else was solid. At the end when he went over the application he asked all the mandatory questions and he asked my wife how she came to the U.S., she replied by plane. Later on he asked "did you come to the U.S. on a boat or by foot" and she misunderstood and answered "by foot". He then asked her again if she meant if she came by foot illegally from the Canadian or Mexican border to which she replied no and said by plane. She apparently though he meant getting out of the plane was by foot.  Moving on, no other issues that I could tell. He asked about our child which is due the end of the month, made some corny jokes, etc. I was fully expecting with how organized we have been since the beginning of this process (I do documentation and investigative work in my career and am very detail oriented), as well as having all this evidence, nad being a military member we'd have it in the bag. However at the end he explained that it needed to be reviewed and checked with the system and we'd receive a notice in the mail with the decision. Gave no timeframe as to how soon it would happen. My wife's not worried at all but I can't help but worry in these types of situations. Online status is of course still slated for interview.

Of course I may be worrying over nothing and we should have her GC by then but we recently bought tickets to go to Japan so the family can meet the baby and all that I wasn't worried about her coming back in because I am thinking by that time (March) she'd have her GC but now I can't help but worry they might take 6 months to make a decision. She should still be able to travel with her EAD/AP card correct?

I just feel bummed out, thought this was gonna be a slam dunk.

    Hi Nakuke,

Do you have a update on your situation? I am going to the first AOS interview in 2 weeks and I am curious about this "second interview." Did you receive a notice for a second interview? If so, when did you receive it?

It is a bit frustrating to bring the marriage certificate every time you want to get something in her name, but it'll get easier when she'll have more official documents in her married name. My Dutch passport is still in my maiden name, but everything else (driver's license, bank accounts, credit cards, etc) is in my married name. But it took a while and a lot of explaining to get things registered in my married name, especially before I had my greencard.

Correct, after the interview the greencard will be mailed. I think I received mine 6 days after the interview.

So I went back to the bank with her passport, EAD, SSN, Marriage certificate, and Utility bill.

EAD,SSN and Marriage Certificate - Current married name

Passport and Utility Bill - Previous Name

The banker didn't accept my wife's current name, since they do not take the EAD and SSN as primary identification. I would need to bring in the green card with the current married name in order to open a account with that name.

However, they did accept the passport and utility bill under her previous name. They required the social too. so she does have a bank account...

Once I get the green card I'll change her name then. Anyway thank you! off to the next one.

The fees are also waived if you file for them with the NOA1 from the I-485, so if your forgot to or changed your mind, you still can.

I just received my EAD/AP card two weeks ago and the SSN this week. I highly recommend you include the SSN application into this as it is also waived with the I-485. As we are applying for my wife's drivers license, health insurance, and bank account, the EAD+SSN will be necessary when showing proof of ID. You will also need your Passport (primary ID) and your marriage certificate as a legal document for name change (if she changed her name).

    There's your problem.

Her married name is her current name. AOS has nothing to do with one's legal name.

So what exactly is the problem she is encountering in getting insurance, a license, etc? Her passport is a valid identity document. The marriage certificate is a legal name change document. The EAD & SSN are in her current name already.

Yes, at the bank she was denied when I tried to have her name added to my account. They told me the primary document, the passport didn't match the EAD and SSN. They told me to come back when she gets her drivers license first under her current name (my last name).

Why would you want to change the name on her Social Security Card? Does she intend to use her maiden name as her legal name?

You need to figure out which name she will use, and be consistent. So if she wants to use her married name, and uses her passport as an ID, she will have to explain that her passport is still in her maiden name, show her marriage certificate, and explain what her current name is. Or use her EAD as an ID, which is often accepted. I used my EAD to open my bank account, get insurance, etc.

Thank you MariekeH, this is exactly the situation she is in. I guess I had a bad experience at the bank. thanks for letting me know I'm in the right direction.

By the way, once I receive the date for the AOS interview and approved, do I receive the green card in the mail?

  11. Hello everyone,

I believe I've made a error on my I-765 Employment Authorization Document and SSN, and want to know whats the best way to fix this.

My wife has arrived here on a K-1 Visa on 11/2018. We're already married on paper and have the certificate

    I've applied for the I-485, I-765, and I-131 together on 1/19. I received my I-131 and I-765 card on 5/19.
I then received the SSN card that states "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" yesterday.

Here's the problem. I realized I made an error and put down her married name onto the EAD card, and it also shows that on her SSN.

This is a issue when I try to sign her up for insurance, license, etc.. The SSN shows her married name, which doesn't match her current name, since we are still waiting for her AOS to clear.

What's the best scenario to get her name changed on the SSN? I'm trying to debate if it's even worth doing since we are still on track to getting her AOS

I'm sorry if I didn't provide enough information regarding this matter. Any info would help.

    Thank you

    Glenn

  12. Hi All,

If someone is reading this (and I thank you for reading this) I would just like to know if I am getting impatient or need to take action. I've called and emailed about 15 times throughout this process and I just got tired of being put on hold for hours without any clear response from USCIS, NVC, and US Embassy. I don't know where else to turn with these matters and anything would help.

This is the history behind our case. I sent this case in August 29, 2017

Submission of I-129F from California: 8/29/17

Received our First I-797 Notice of Action : 2/22/18 (NOA 1) approval from 2/22/18 to 6/21/18

Received NVC notice of approved I-129F and Obtained a NVC Case Number: 04/08/18

06/11/18: Beneficiary attended her interview at the US Embassy in Tokyo

06/13/18: US Embassy in Tokyo email stated the Visa application is permitted, however the case is still listed as Pending

06/26/18: Next email received states there's additional processing needed and to please cancel any flights planned

07/02/18: Next email states the case went back to USCIS, NVC for additional procedures. Passport will be returned once processing is completed: 07/02/18

07/23/18: Received another NOA in the mail stated approved petition from 7/17/18 -11/6/18 (NOA 2??)

07/23/18: Next email says our case completed processing at NVC and sent back to the US Embassy in Tokyo

08/14/18: US Embassy states they haven't received the case back from USCIS viaNVC.

09/24/18: US Embassy in Tokyo states our I-129F petition has expired. They now request a letter of re-validation to continue the case for an additional four months.

I don't understand why our NOA 2 arrived so late during the process, but there hasn't been one explanation or correction noted during this process.. Should I get a lawyer involved at this point to help me get this approval? I can't get a single answer from the USCIS, NVC, or US Embassy in Tokyo on where our paperwork is at and what the next step is. She has submitted her passport along with her paperwork back in June, and haven't received it back yet.
If anyone can help with the situation that would be great. We are holding on the best we can, but this has been a rough experience.

    Thank you,

    Glenn
