Finally, I got notification about my Oath Ceremony was scheduled in Detroit.

Can I ask you a couple of questions?

How long will the whole Oath Ceremony be take? I need prepare enough time on that day.

Is it difficult to park a car there?  since there will be lots of people for Oath ceremony.

    Thank you so much.

My ceremony was scheduled at 9:30,  by 12:00 I was outside the building.

There is a parking garage right across the street.

Check this link for all the parking around there.

    https://www.mied.uscourts.gov/index.cfm?pageFunction=juryLocationParking

They will give you the option to apply for the passport across the street there and it costs more.

I applied at the USPS by my house. Even if they say that it can take 4 to 6 weeks, I received my passport with less than 3 weeks.

    Congratulations!!!!

wow, your case was proceeded very fast.

I got notification about my case was approved last wednesday( August 8th).  But I have not got notification about Oath ceremony schedule.

I don't know what happen why it takes so long.

Could be that they scheduled my Oath fast, because my green card expired this past May, and I applied for the naturalization back in December.

Wow, your case was very fast.  My case was approved on 8th August. It's been 3 days. It's not scheduled for ceremony yet. Probably the officer are very busy.

I hope I can receive any notification next Monday.

Maybe they are very busy. There were 73 people in my ceremony.

My interview was July 16th and the Oath August 6.

Look like they have the ceremony ceremony twice per week.

    Good luck!!! Congratulations!!!

    Thanks a lot.

Mine as was very fast. As soon as I left the office, I received the text, in line for the interview.  Maybe in 2 days the letter was posted to the website. You should be getting yours soon.

73 People! Wow.... Thank you for the information. Well I think I cannot make it to the passport agency on the same day! I will apply next day.

The guy from the passport agency said that if you can't apply on the same day, you have 30 days to apply with them and get you certificate back on the same day (as long as you are willing to pay $60 more for it).

I just applied at the USPS. I hope I will have no problem getting my certificate back from the USPS 🙂

How long was the oath ceremony? How many people were there? Can I apply passport in any passport office, I have one in USPS office where I live? I don't think so I will have time to apply passport after my Oath ceremony!

The starting time on the letter was 9:30, but I took at least 1 hour for everyone to check in (73 people taking the Oath). The ceremony itself started around 10:30 when a USCIS officer made some introductory remarks, welcoming and congratulating everyone. Than a representative from the passport agency come in and explained about the passport and answered a couple question. After the judge came in, we did the Pledge of Allegiance and he gave a very meaningful speech (you can tell he does not approve our current President 😉

We had to repeat the Oath of Allegiance and they called one by one to receive the certificate.

Afterwards the judge stayed for pictures.

Yes, you can do the passport anywhere that accepts passport applications. The only advantage of doing it there, is that you don’t have to submit the original certificate.

Keep in mind that if the certificate gets lost and you have to get a new one, it will cost you almost $600.

Congratulations! How was the oath ceremony? Were you able to apply for your passport on-spot? I have my oath is in about 2.5 weeks, and I'm stocked. Lastly, what type of document did you need to bring? Only green card and letter, or did they ask for additional documents like ID etc...?

They just asked for the letter and the green card. The ceremony itself was pretty short. People could apply for the passport in a office across the street but they charge $60 more than if you apply anywhere else. The only advantage to pay the $60 more is that you don't have to mail the certificate. They did not allowed any picture during the ceremony, and phones were not allowed either. The judge stayed after the ceremony for the pictures.

I've just added myself to the Phoenix lockbox above. I hope I did everything correctly. I received my interview appointment letter yesterday for 08-30-18 in Denver, CO.

My only concern at the moment was that I lost my old expired UK passport that originally had my original K1 visa in it. It was several years expired when I lost it. I have a current UK passport again now, so will take this to the interview, but will my lost (and long expired) passport cause any issue? I did report the lost passport to the UK government already, (and filed the necessary documents so I could get another valid UK passport from overseas.)

In my interview I just had to show my current passport. Good luck!!!!

Any idea how often they do a judicial oath ceremony in Detroit? Still debating if i should do a minor (one letter) change in my name...

I asked when I went to my interview and got different answers. At the check-in the guy told me they have every week. The lady that interviewed me said every couple weeks on Monday's and Thursday's.

By what I read the name change it's pretty simple.

    See below:

    https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/correcting-your-name-when-obtaining-us-citizenship.html

If you have already submitted your Form N-400 and did not indicate a name change preference, it’s not too late. At your interview, you can ask U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to let you complete a Petition for Name Change.

If you are approved for citizenship, and if naturalization swearing-in ceremonies are conducted by a court in your area, then you will be able to change your name legally at the ceremony. Your name change will take effect immediately after the ceremony has ended. The new name that you choose will be shown on your Certificate of Naturalization, you should receive a separate piece of paper that indicates you had a legal name change, and you will be able to use the separate paper as proof of your new name.

Congrats! Did you have a joint I-751/N400 interview? If so can you elaborate how it went?

No, actually my 10 years green card expired this past May.

The interview was very easy and relaxing.

The officer placed me under oath, checked my passport, green card and driver's license. She got the finger print  form my index finger (both hands) and took my picture.

She told me she would give me the test first and than go thought the application.

    For the questions I got:

    1. Who was the first President?

    2. Who is the chief justice now?

    3. How many House of representatives voting members

    4. We elect U.S. representative for how many years?

    5. When do we vote for President?

    6. We elect a President for how many years?

For the reading part: Who was the first President?

For the writing: George Washington was the first President.

She congratulate me and said I passed the test and checked the information from the application such as name, address, marriage, kids name's and all the questions in Part 12 of the application ( Have you ever claimed to be a U.S citizen......).

She asked me to check if my information was correct on a IPAD and had me to sign it twice.

I was handled an interview naturalization results sheet that says I passed the test and my application has been recommended for approval.

She told I was going to receive the letter of the mail with the information about the oath. I asked how often they have the ceremony and she said every couple weeks and that my oath would probably be around beginning of August.

The officer was very nice and polite. The all process lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes.

After I got home I got a notification: Oath Ceremony Notice was mailed.

Now just waiting for the letter on the mail or online :-)

  11. I have a question about the interview. Do they ask the question exactly like it's on the USCIS website or not?

I just watched a video on You Tube about the interview, and a question asked on the video was not part of the flash cards. I noticed too that some questions were asked in a different way from the flash cards.

I'm just trying to figure out what to expect from the test.

    Thanks!!!!
