  1. Hey guys I need some help with the police clearance. It's still not clear to me which type of clearance is needed. I am located in Canada. I've read that finger print based clearance is not needed, and that just a name checked clearance is needed. Now there are two types (vulnerable sector and just a regular police criminal record check) - Which one would I do? Should I just try and get the finger print one just incase?

I've emailed the Montreal Consulate the same question, but they're going to take about a week to reply apparently. But I need some type of hard copy proof of what I need otherwise the police detachment sounds like they won't process it... so frustrating.

  2. If you've been together for more than two years and have met you can start the process. This is website where you will find the forms https://www.uscis.gov/i-129f  the first step is to meet and make sure you have proof of meeting (photographs, text messages, passport proof, etc..) Make sure you pay attention to the edition date of the petition form as the government changes the forms every once in a while. Fill out the petition, print it, make sure you have proof of relationship in the file (text messages, phone calls, images). You both also need Intent to Mary letters that will need to be signed by both of you. Be extremely careful in filling out the forms and double check everything. It should look professional and be easy to read though once printed and put into a binder. Once you submit the petition it takes a couple weeks to hear back and receive a case number/ NOA1 (notice of action 1) is what this first piece of paper from the USCIS is called. The next step is waiting to hear back if you've been approved or not. This is the longest process and may take up to a year. If approved he will need to go though a health check and embassy interview. For these steps I am not sure if they are the same in Australia as they are in Canada, so I would do further research. My best advice is to read up as much as you can about the process and save up some money. Here is a link to further information regarding the k1 visa http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide Good luck! This information is only for the k1 visa, there are other visa options you can look into, which you will find on the USCIS website. It's up to you two to decided which route will work best.
