Each document you send from start to finish is looked over and in some cases security checks start immediately. Then as they move thru the processing there are more security checks on the USC as well as the beneficary. When at NVC the files are looked over but they are not approved for issuance of the visa; they are looked over that they are filled out correctly and all information is enclosed.
The beneficary must interview, give fingerprints and have them run thru the data bases. Once they are cleared and the embassy agrees that the visa is to be issued they call adjudicating it which is issuing the visa. A visa is not approved until it goes thru all these stages.
There are lots of security checks that are done before the visa can issue and the CR1 takes longer since you will be able to work almost immediately once you arrive in the states unlike the K1 and K3.
Thank you Mary
That makes it a lot easier to understand.

AP is called Administrative Processing and each embassies handles it differently. It is the security checks or missing paperwork that is needed at the time of the interview. We had AP for his security checks.
AP is issued after the interview usually and is when you are given a 221g which is a temporary denial. Once the missing paperwork is submitted or all security checks are cleared the consulate will contact the individual to pick up their visa or will send it via courrier to them.
OK, I thought NVC's job was to make sure that all documents are completed before sending them to the embassy.
It makes one wonder.....

Welcome home Mike! Finally...
6'8'' wow, that is tall.... so you can say he really did sweep you off your feet.
I am so happy that this is finally behind you....
I filed for my husband February of this year, USCIS took almost 7 months to approve our case. Our case was then forwarded to NVC where all the requested documents were sent. They received all our documentation and entered them into their system on November 1st. I was told that it takes 2-4 weeks for the case to be completed, yet ours is still being reviewed, while I've seen others in the same visa category send in documents 2-3 days after ours and have gotten their case completed no later than 2 weeks and sent to the respective embassy. Now this makes me wonder how NVC works, just a little confused I guess. I call daily to find out if there are any changes but not yet.I am trying not to get fed up but this not easy to do atall.
I would say that if you're not mentally strong to deal with this process then don't do it. By far this is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life and all because I want to live a normal life with my husband who I've know since I was a child. **sigh**
The reason the CR1's take longer is because there are more people filling than just married couples. This processes is filling for a relative. There are a lot more relatives than fiances. Some cases take longer I have heard on how you meet and documentation on what you have to prove your significant other has been with you long time. The senators office said I would have no problem because I had documentation for 9 years. It is also who you know if you can get local agents to help you. I don't understand with your case if you have known him since childhood. hmm puzzling.
Hang in there!
I know; there seems to be no rhyme or reason on how they process accounts. I hope you get an approval soon. I don't know why the K-3's and CR1's take longer than the K-1's. If you ask me they all take to long

Wow Shauna Mike is very tall. Congrats and welcome Mr. Mikey!
Hey BelwinMills,
Thank you for your clarification, this sucks because I have heard of married couples whose application took only 6 months so go figure. I'll just sit back and play the waiting game, what else can I do.
I have known my husband since we were children, we dated for about 2 years before I migrated. We reconnected 4 years ago, got married and the rest is history.

In our case we started the visa process January 20, 2005
Case completed in July 2005 and forwarded to the embassy.
Interview date was December 12, 2005.
Visa put in AP and was not issued until May 2006.
In total one and one half years from marriage until his arrival in the states.
Mary
So it took 11 months to get an interview, I am doing a littlebit of research and found out that the estimated time for CR1 Visas is 9 months - 1 year give or take. What is AP?
Thank you Mary, you've been quite helpful.

Thanks MaryandMian, I am feeling a little better since I vented. I called again and the lady told me I should hear something by this Friday, since the 4 weeks will expire then.

affect IR-1/CR1 Visa Applications? I read somewhere on the board, where these applications are not affected by the priority dates. If that is the case, why do they assign one in the first place?
For those of you who have gone through the process how many months did the entire process take?
Take into consideration from the time you file the I-130 to the date of the interview.
Was the interview before or after the priority date?
For Example, if the priority date given was 1/6/2005, did you have your interview before or after 1/6/2006?
Your response will be greatly appreciated?

Congrats!
They are right when they said it takes 2-4 weeks.

to be approved? The automated service says it takes 6 - 8 weeks. For those of you who have gone through this process already did it take that long?
Thank you

I spoke with a customer service rep at NVC and was told that when our case arrives at the Kingston Embassy, I should contact the embassy and make sure that packet 4 is mailed to my husband.
I have done quite a lot of research and found out that, because I am the agent the Embassy in Kingston might send his medical appointment and interview letter to me, which would make no sense since I am the petitioner.
Have any of you experience this, and what did you do to make sure that your SO kept his/her appointments. Your response will be kindly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
For those of you who have received packet 3 & 4 what do these packets entail?
-
It is typical NVC automated system message after they complete the I-864 review. It means that they are yet to complete DS 230 packet review. You are better off speaking with an operator live.
Hi,
I overnighted the DS-230 with all required backup documentation to NVC yesterday. An employee signed for it this morning, but they have yet to enter the info in their system which is quite understandable.
What I don't understand is why their automated system is saying that I'm missing info....They took it up on themselves to resend another blank DS-230, should I ignore that one since we previously submitted the original?
BTW The first DS-230 was mailed on October 17th, I received it October 20th overnight it to my husband who received it October 24th....he resend it via DHL and I received it on the 27th....I thought NVC knew that some applicants live overseas and it may take a week before a form can be resent. The fact that they resend the DS-230 again has me stomped.
BTW I inquire about printing forms from the internet, and they advised me not to, hence my reasoning to wait until I receive the forms from them before I send it to my hubby...I just want to make sure I'm doing things correctly.
Thanks! I really appreciate your responses..
Im curious if the "Missing" message changes once they have the DS-230 processed... or maybe a better question would be: What is the next message if everything is OK?
Thanks!
Hi just checked the automated machine and everything is ok
-
did NVC take to enter the DS-230 in their system? I overnighted the form along with the required documents this Monday and someone in the office signed for it, so I know it's in the building....
I just want this thing to be over with **sigh** I'm so tired & frustrated right now it's not even funny.

My husband is my agent and he received a letter saying that they were missing my DS-230, even after it was sent and they had received it. So I think you should just ignore it, give it a couple of day until they can register it on their system.
I got different information from the NVC. One day I talked to a really nice lady who told me to fill the DS-230 form online, print it, sign it and leave it ready for my husband to send to the NVC, when the time came. Unfortunately afterwards I got so much conflicting info, that I decided to wait for the form. In the end I sent the online form! And had no issues with it. Just make sure it is the valid one.
You know how government agencies are...they are not the most organized of people. So just disregard your extra form.
Thanks! I thought as much but I just wanted to back it up.
