  1. We got our international satellite dish installed yesterday -- it is HUGE.

HypeTV is up and running. It costs $9.99 a month extra. So far, so good. It is mostly music videos. They had news on last night but we both fell asleep before it came on.

I am hoping that as time goes by and more people order it they will have better programming. Gotta tell you, it is really nice to see the commercials. Mostly for Digicel and Appleton's.....kinda makes me feel warm and giggly inside. It's like you are back in Jamaica but sitting in your own house

I've had HypeTV for over a year now, and I can't live without it. My hubby use to wonder how I knew so much about what was going on a yawd, now he knows why

  2. HI EVERYONE I JUS RECIEVED MY VISA TODAY :dance::dance: . CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THIS MEANS "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR" ANY HELP APPRECIATED. THAT IS WHAT IT SAYS IN MY PASSPORT.

    Congratulations!!! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

That was a quick turnaround in getting your visa! Did you go pick it up?

Not sure what that means in your passport... one of the veterans may know.

I know your are so excited!!! I am happy for you!

NO I DIDN'T PICK IT UP IT WAS DELIVERED. U R NOT ALLOWED TO PICK IT UP,WHEN U R APPROVED U GO ACROSS FROM THE EMBASSY TO PAY TO HAVE IT DELIVERED.THE COST WAS $525 JAMAICAN DOLLARS.

You can also have them deliver it to another airpak location in the island. They will call u to pick it up. This works best for individuals who live in the rual areas, where some addresses are difficult to locate :)

  3. congrats. :dance::dance::dance:

    Okay.

We did NOT get the visa. We didnt even get in for an interview. They didnt let us past the first window. We messed up on some paperwork and now I am kicking myself and crying my eyes out. I cant write anymore now but I will when I get home so no one else makes the same mistakes. :(

((((Karin)))), please contact me when you can. This is just a temporary set back, I'm sure you'll be given another date and all will be well.

  4. Well, as you guys know we had an interview scheduled for Thursday, Feb 1 @ 12:15pm. We arrived at the Embassy at 11:45 and was ushered in at 12pm. Did the security check and was sent to the immigrant visa section.

The only thing that turned me off at the embassy was the way in which some of the Jamaican women treated us. They were downright RUDE, which was totally uncalled for. The irony of the situation is that the Americans treated us with much more respect, go figure.

The interview process was a little nerve racking, we were interviewed separately in a private room (Thank the Lord). Because with those windows and mikes you can an hearful. Some not so pleasant \o/ The lady who interviewed us was very nice to us. She asked us questions such as how we met, how many times I visited, when we got married, where we got married. She asked my husband where I lived, my mom's name. who filed for me, what I did for a living etc. Since my hubby and I were together the night before she asked us what time my plane came in, if he picked me up. what we had for dinner, what I wore to bed....

She also asked if I knew his number which I did, at this point I tried to have a normal conversation with her. She said our wedding pictures were beautiful. She didn't even ask for proof of the relationship, the lady was really really nice I can't stress that anymore.

After the brief conversation with her she told me to get my husband, and she told us to stop being nervous our visa has been approved. Then my husband burst out, I can get my son now!! and kissed me (L)

We were the first ones to walk out with our visa and went over to airpack where they told us that the passport and supporting documentation would be sent to us in 5-10 business days. We got the package in 1 business day :D

Our plan was to have my hubby travel a week after I left, but when we got the voicemail message on Monday night, I was still deciding if he should wait until the following week or come with me Wednesday....lets just say after Monday night I didn't need to think about it anymore  I woke up called Air JA and they had available seats. We booked the ticket and left. His family and friends are still in shock....my friends are screaming their lungs out and the my sister's 21month old baby has stuck to him like glue, he can't even hug me without her frowning even though she just met him yesterday and I cannot believe he is at home in our bed watching TV. \o/ *sigh*

He is a barber by trade, and he has ton of friends in NY. Let him watch TV one day he's going to wish he has the opportunity to do so.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT VISA JOURNEY!!!!!!!

  6. You have to call and email them simultaneously or you'll miss your appointments. I have seen this happen to a couple of people already. You have to be persistent. :)

but u only can call on a monday or friday

I know that, when I said call them I figured you knew I was referring to those 2 specific days.

ok because i jus called and a lady told me to call back friday

 At least someone talked to you.....

when u call u must press 0 and someone will answer

yes, but try that on Mondays & Fridays and see what happen. Please don't think it will be that easy on those days.

  7. It's funny....when I started looking into this process (before I found VJ) I was anxiously researching attorneys. I paid a few a "consultation fee" just to hear what they had to say. The way they made it seem there was NO WAY I could do this without them.

    .....then I found VJ.....

I am glad I "wasted" the money I did doing the research but even happier that I didn't pay one any more than what I did. The help here on VJ is so much more valuable than what any attorney could have provided.

Thank you ladies you are so right, if it wasn't for this site and networking with other individuals who've gone through this process I don't know how things would have progressed to this point.

Here's a little story, the embassy said they mailed my husband's info packet on 12/22 and up to today he still has not received those documnents. If it was not for my cousin who told me a horror story of one person missing her interview because she did not receive her packet in the mail, we would have sat and wait, however with saying that I am not one to sit back and think things will be ok if have any feeling that I'm being cornered. I say that to say after waiting for 1 wk and constantly calling the Post Office in Jamaica and coming up emptied handed, I had to take matters in my own hands so that my husband could get a duplicate copy. You should see my phone bill, mi mumma

I sent atleast 5 emails to this address KingstonIVinfo@state.gov and I kid you not, nobody answered my emails. I know they read it because I have return receipt in my outlook. Well needless to say after seeing no results I decided to call. Now that was a nightmare, I was on the phone for almost an 1 hour before I got through. This is after some real bad attitude and couple of hang ups. :help:

I had to literally stay on the phone with one young miss, who said she will send me an email with an appointment for my husband to come to the window to collect a duplicate copy of his appointment packet. I did not get off the phone until the email was in my inbox. I forwarded the email to my husband and as soon as he got his packet I told him to make an appointment for his medical which was 1 wk ago. If you don't do that and wait to do it just before your interview date, then your medical will be delayed and then you know what can happen.

I maybe wrong, but I think the system in Jamaica sucks big time, the feeling that I got with dealing with embassy is that they don't care and will hold people back. I said they don't care because one young woman at the embassy told me that after they send out the packet then if doesn't receive it, it's not their fault and quite frankly there is nothing they can do about it \o/

I'll be attending the interview with my husband next week Thursday, we have everything they've asked for. At this point it's out of my hands and in God's and the US Embassy in Kingston. I'll share my story when I rteurn on the 9th.

Thanks for your support on this board I really appreaciate it :)

  8. Good luck Susanwill!

    Thanks! Jonesie :)

This is very good info!!! I am just about at the same place in my journey, I am waiting for an appointment for my fiancee to go pick up packet #3.

Question... Do you have to turn in the DS230 before the Embassy will give you an interview date??

Hi Sonshyne, I am doing a CR-I Visa for my husband. I believe someone who has done the K-I Visa will better able to assist you. :)

  9. That is great. Did you call for the interview date or did they mail it to you? I just want to get a feel on how they are scheduling recently. I am hoping to have a date within the next 2 weeks. Your paperwork looks pretty good. Looks like this is I-130 Minfay.

Thanks Texas Bound, please see below a copy of the email I sent to them and their response.

    Good Morning:

My husband's case was completed at the National Visa Center on November 29th, 2006 and forwarded to the US Embassy in Kingston on December 5th, 2006. I would like to attend the interview with my husband and have to make plans accordingly.

I live and work in New York and I need to give my employer enough notice regarding paid time off. I was wondering if it's possible for my husband to receive a possible medical appointment and interview date the week January 29th or the week of February 5th.

I would appreciate your advice regarding this matter.

Thank you and Happy Holidays,BELOW IS THEIR RESPONSE

    Hello:

Our records indicate that we have scheduled XXXXX for a visa interview on February 1, 2007. On December 22, we mailed an appointment packet to him at XXXXXXXXXXX. If he does not receive the appointment packet, a representative should send an e-mail to KingstonIVInfo@state.gov and schedule an appointment to come to the Embassy's immigrant visa information window and retrieve a duplicate appointment packet. If everything is in order at the time of his interview, we should be able to issue the visa within four to five working days.

    Regards,

  10. Copy of Affadavit of Support (Original was sent to NVC. While NVC didn't ask for it to be notarized, I am going to notorize the copy that I have. You can never be too sure)

You might want to just prepare another I-134 since you are going to get it notarized anyway. This way there is no "drama" at the interview (in the case that they want of the signature). I think they want original signature from you on the form, because that is the form that is going to come back to homeland security in his "brown envelope".

Hi Savanphil, thanks for your response. I am not familar with a form I-134, the form that that I use to file the Affadavit is I-864. I'll redo that.

BTW we are a CR-1 and do not need to file the form you mentioned.

    Thanks!

  11. Congrats, Cambutler  I am going to post a copy of an email that I sent to the embassy in kingston requesting a date for my hubby. They were nice and very accommodating. This is the email address I sent it to consularkingst@state.gov

I hope that helps, BTW I sent the email about 3.5 weeks after I knew that they received his info, by using the DHL tracking Info that was posted on the site.

  14. You -- the Petitioner should have already submitted yours with the Original application. He will need his for the interview. Make sure it is the "pretty" new one. It's pink and blue and has a hummingbird on it. You might want to have him get two copies since they will keep one -- he will need one once he gets to the U.S. If he gets it now it will save you time of having to order another one later on....

Thanks! Minfay, however at no time during the application process was I asked to submit a copy of my birthcertificate. The most I was asked for were:

I130: Passport picture, marriage certificate, proof of citizenship

NVC: Affidavit of Support, all other paperwork pertained to my husband.

My understanding is, if I was in JA with my husband and lets say a family member filed for him and I was going to migrate with him, then that's when they would require my birthcertificate.

Also, why would they need my birthcertificate if I am the petitioner, afterall I am not applying for the visa.

My husband has the updated birthcertificates.

  15. All appointments are booked at the beginning of the month for the following month (ex: we called Nov. 1st and our interview was on Dec. 2nd). I know the embassy is relocating so I'm not sure how that will come into play in regards to booking appointments. Based on my experience and other Yardie VJers, hopefully you'll get a Feb. 2007 interview.

Thanks! I was reading your time line. Does the petitoner need to submit a copy of his/her birth certificate? I thought that only the beneficiary would need to submit that particular document.

  16. My husband's case was forwarded to the consulate in Kingston, I was wondering how long it's going to take for him to get his medical appointment and interview date. I called but did not not get through.

For those of you who've gone through this process at the consulate in Kingston will it take another month or so before they schedule the dates?

    Thanks!
