Eli y Mauri and Kristen&Mark brought up something that I`m surprised doesn`t get mentioned much- have any of you (especially K-1ers) already experienced or heard of serious problems with immigrants being unable to adjust to the US? Anyone finally get his/her visa and then get so homesick or just plain frustrated with life here that they just went back home?
As for our plans, we`d both like to live in my wife`s country someday. Like a lot of you said, the money is a big reason we aren`t there now. Although I`ve travelled there fairly extensively, the only time I`ve actually lived outside the US was with the military and that was like living in a little piece of the US. There`s no telling how well I would cope, but I`s sure like to have the experience for a while. Ideally, I think it would be great to live there for a few years, then snow-bird for the rest of my life!

I know it`s a pain, but it`s still my favorite site. If you want to see more Juarez timelines, a bunch of I2US folks started hanging out here out of frustration:
http://www.smf.juarez-mexico.com/index.php?topic=367.0
Unfortunately, there`s nothing about other consulates or embasies.
-
Yeah, the travel is a pain, but don`t worry too much- Juarez isn`t as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. And actually, the area around the consulate is pretty well secured. Just don`t get crazy and line up on the street in the middle of the night thinking you`ll be first in and first out.
-
Gabacha, you were SORTA mean. It would have been better if you had told him that Juan Gabriel would be doing the checking.
-
Congratulations Ququis and Gabacha!
Dang! Looks like you just missed it, Louisa! Unless there`s another Inlimbo, she`s already on I2US. My wife and I had to file I-601 last year and just went back for pick-up, but it looks like there aren`t nearly as many waivers here as on I2US.
Does anyone know if the pilot is for I-212s also?
-
Looks like so far so good for everyone. We did the mrdical yesterday and my wife is in the consulate right now. I`m in a ciber in the shopping mall across the street from K and E trying to cope with a mexican keyboard that Im not accustomed to. Suerte, Kristen y Efrain. How bout that wind, huh?
-
Allright, Angie and Roberto! Another couple together again!
Good luck, K and E. We`ll be there the same time, but I`m leaving tomorrow after work. Another batch comming through, huh?

Hi. If any of you have been waiting a long time for decisions on waivers through Cd Juarez, please take a few minutes to read the posts starting on page eight of this thread:
http://www.immigrate2us.net/forum/viewtopi...p=134271#134271
The final draft may be in reference to folks waiting xx months from submision date or xx months from entry date, so please speak up if you might be one of the cases they`re looking for. As was mentioned in the post, unity is strength. Mr Janssen seems to be genuinely concerned about filers, so hopefully it will start moving things along. Thank you.

Great- you shouldn`t have any trouble! It looks like you`ve done all your "homework", wish we had been as prepared as you guys are. I`ll check to see if I can find those shortcuts out of curiosity, but I think we`re almost done now. If you haven`t left yet, have a nice trip!
-
What are James` shortcuts? Are you expecting approval on the first interview? Not that you shouldn`t, just that a lot of us go knowing that we`ll need a waiver. We have our second interview the 28th. Good luck.

Bdesj: No way! I quickly glanced through a website about getting married in Nevada, and I thought it said SS# was required. Well, well, then maybe my thoughts of renting a car in El Paso and driving to Nevada can still work! I figure that once we cross into El Paso, we might as well go somewhere cool. I was thinking Lake Tahoe because it seems more picturesque. Nevada is the only state in that area of the country I haven't visited.
The vieja didn`t have one when we got married (Jul `03), but you got me wondering if there had been a change, so I called this morning. If you have a SSN, they want to know what it is. No SSN, no problem. Just a cavity check. You`re ruthless!
-
Hey, Birddogs- Congratulation! From NV, no less! You know, there really ought to be a shuttle, but if there is I`ve never heard of one. Most folks take a cab for around $50, I think. It`s probably cheaper to take one to the bridge, cross on foot, then catch another one. Several people from VJ have had interviews this year. Here`s a thread with their experiences at the consulate and on the road to and from:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...7896&st=855
Where is your wife from? Mine is from Guadalajara.
-
Oh my, you had the Elvis conversation? We just had the Vegas conversation...except I don't think that'll be possible as it seems Nevada requires a SS# to marry.
Not true! Come on down and bring your Elvae! (Or youe Jose Alfredos)
-
No, no news yet. Let`s wait til about April and see how many "We`re pregnant!" posts we get after all these February reunions!
-
That`s what we`re doing- I took a week`s vacation along with a four day weekend. As long as all goes smoothly we`ll go visit family in Chihuahua after the interview. This will be your first appointment, won`t it? Are you expecting clear sailing or planning to file a waiver? Good luck, whichever it is.

Hi. The "Agent of Choice" form is just to tell them where you want them to send information. It`s usually best to use an address in the US or some other place that has dependable mail service and best to use someone who you don`t expect to move because things can get lost if you change the address. The "Agent" is usually either the petitioner or a lawyer. You can use your spouse`s name and another person`s address (like one of her relatives) if that makes it easier.
On the I-864, someone has to take responsibility for the immigrant. That`s the "sponsor". The idea is to prevent the immigrant from needing financial support from the government later on. Usually the sponsor is the USC or LPR who is bringing the immigrant to the US, but it can be someone else if necessary. On the I-864, the sponsor has to show proof of income (usually tax forms) or assets (stocks, realestate, a big bank account, etc). If one person can`t do it, there is a way to use the income or assets from two or more people, but only one of them will actually be held responsible for the immigrant.
The time it takes and what it costs depends A LOT on your situation- where you are, what visa, using a lawyer or doing it yourself, any legal problems, etc.

Generally speaking, how much notice is given when the interview packet is mailed? 30 days?
Something like that. I don`t remember when our current one arrived, but the postmark says 01/29 (El Paso) and this time we have our interview on 02/28. Other people are getting them with about the same time frame. Don`t forget to arrive a couple days early for the medical- it usually only takes one day, but sometimes you have to go back a second time and they`re closed for a lot of holidays- all US holidays and all Mexican holidays. Also, if you buy plane tickets, be sure to give yourself plenty of time for the interview because that one frequently runs into another day. Last year my wife had to keep going back again and again for a week (I was already back at work by the time they finally finished with her). I`ve never heard of anyone else getting stretched out that long, but it can happen. Two days is fairly common. I think they have a list of holidays posted on a website somewhere but I don`t know where.

For you folks who carry two passports, I take it the US doesn`t care about that? Have you ever been inspected upon entry and the inspecting officer saw your other passport? Just wondering because the topic came up on another forum that I frequent and nobody there had experience in the matter.

For Canadian filers it might be different but DHS in Cd Juarez doesn`t send any NOAs. You have to call DHS to find out if/when the waiver was entered into the system, usually three to six weeks after submitting it. Then they don`t say anything until the case has been decided, then they send a letter with the decision to the address you give them on the "Agent of Choice" form. Finally (if the case was approved), the consulate sends a packet with an appointment date and information regarding the interview.
-
The first box says something like "I filed the last three years but I`m submitting my 1040 ONLY for last year." The next box says more or less "I`m submitting from two years ago and from three years ago." Well, I`m giving them my 1040s from all three, which is what they really want, I think. In the end, I checked both boxes and I can`t see a problem with it, but it doesn`t seem right. It`s badly worded.

Lisa, have you ever checked the I-601 forum on I2US? The forum base is much smaller than VJ, but there are a lot more with Mexico cases. There are maybe 60 people waiver cases through CDJ who hang out there and post timelines at least to some extent. I think there are two Feb filers there who are still waiting and one Jan filer (all with waivers entered in Mar, I think). Your case isn`t out of the ballpark, but it is a bit older than what most folks are looking at. Drop by and see us sometime.
-
Wish I knew, Angilla! They don`t leave much room for "other", do they? I had to respond here because, even though I don`t know the answer you need, I`m half stuck on the same question `cause I`m a different "other". Just thought it was kinda funny! Good luck!
-
Hi, Raymond. Is the 3032 the "Agent of Choice" form? If so, they should sent you the packet at the address you gave them. As far as I know, they don`t send anything to Mexico. What ever they send to me in the US, I just fax coppies of to my wife. Also, I could be wrong, but it seems to me that most people are currently waiting about a year from the time their cases are transfered to CDJ to their appointments. Good luck.

Yes, good stuff regarding hardship letters on I2US. Look for anything that says HSL. Don`t underestimate the importance of preparing and documenting your letter- approvals used to be almost automatic there, but that isn`t the case anymore. Well presented applications are still being approved (slowly) but a lot are denied now, usually due to insuficient documentation. Good luck with your case!

Well, it isn`t really an immigration forum- it`s actually a forum dedicated to travelers in Cd Juarez, Chih., but a bunch of us ended up there to be able to keep in touch when the server at our regular site goes south.
