Children under 14 don't have to attend interviews for non-immigrant visas (tourist visa, for example) but must attend for an immigrant visa.

For children they they usually just ask "are you excited about going to live in America?" and such questions to name sure they are aware that they will be moving far away. The questions will be age-appropriate in line with how much of the situation he should understand.

Relax...that would be my biggest advice about the interview. If you've made it this far, it's pretty much a done deal.

Did you had to pay any fees at the embassy during the interview?

    Congratulations!

I have written a detailed summary of the questions asked at my interview on my timeline.

Is your son immigrating too? Or is he a USC? If he's a USC he doesn't need to attend. If he's immigrating, he will have to attend (has he also had his medical?). The questions tend to be very basic unless you have some very unusual or difficult circumstances in your case. Many have reported that their interview lasted less than 10 minutes. Mine was probably around 20 minutes. It was probably the easiest part of the process - except walking through arrivals at the airport!

My son is CR2 visa. He had his medical done. He got separate visa interview letter but I read somewhere kids under 14 y.o. doesn't have to attend. He's going with me anyways just in case they will need him there. You just wipped out all my worries! Really? 20 minutes? That is what I wanted to hear since this whole process was for us 2 years of missery...

    Thank you!

  3. Hello everyone!

Few months ago I wrote here that me and my husband are still waiting for my interview date in Warsaw, Poland. Your help during this process was priceless to me so I'm happy to say  that NVC after months of delays finally scheuled it. We got interview letter on 13th of October and my interview is at 13th of November! How fast! I gathered all civil documents and completed medical examination but I would like to ask you what to expect during this interview? Does our 9 y.o. son have to go for the interview too? What questions they will ask me? How it will look like? And finally, are there any fees to pay at the embassy during interview. We payed everything USCIS and NVC told us to pay but are there any fees I must pay at the embassy on the day of my interview?

    Thank you for your help!

I understand but unfortunately pregnancy is not a reason for expedite and does not give any priority or benefit. The minimum time for you to be in US I see: let's say they received your new documents August 1 + at least 8 weeks for review (again, may be longer) + at least 3 weeks to assign an interview date + at least 6 weeks until the interview (according to the cases history for Poland). The total is August 1 + 17 weeks, which is November 28, 2017. This is the date when you may get your visa.

Thank you very much. I needed to have an idea about time frame. You helped me a lot.

Sorry to hear you're going through all this.

So, if you receive a checklist, your 11 weeks waiting starts over again. This is how it works. You had to send 2 marriage certificates to avoid checklist, but you just had one.

As far as I know, there's no way to speed it up. 11 weeks is a current timeframe for NVC to review documents they receive. I don't think that contacting supervisor or even congressman will do the trick because you're still within normal processing times for NVC.

So this time make sure you prepare everything NVC wants and mail it to them to review.

It may take shorter than 11 weeks to review your documents but I think no less than 8 weeks (our case has been completed in around 8 weeks and we're lucky). After your case is completed by NVC, you will need to wait again, for the interview date to be assigned to you. We're dealing with Warsaw consulate too and it took us another 4 weeks just to get our interview date.

    Good luck!

Thank you for reply. It puts us in very difficult situation because I'm pregnant. We wanted child to be born in US. Now at least I know what to expect. I still hope it will be reviewed faster than within 11 weeks. :-(

  6. Hello.

I'm from Poland, my husband is a US citizen. We just passed 1.5 year mark of waiting. Currently we were waiting for NVC responce but unfortunately instead of a letter with interview date, at 11th week of waiting, we received a checklist. We have to submit different type of birth certificates and marriage certificates. In Poland we have 2 types of certificates and we had no clue which type they want so we send ones that we use in Poland more often. Unfortunately it wasn't the type NVC wanted. Honestly, USCIS waiting for us was shorter than NVC waiting. Our case was laying there untouched for 3 months before they estimate 11 weeks to review it. When we called NVC to confirm checklist we heard they estimate another 11 weeks to review additional documents. We thought we're at the end of this nightmare process but it looks like they backed us up to the beginning. Please tell me, if there's any chance that it will be done sooner and if there's any way to speed this up? I read about people contacting supervisors, but please tell me how to do it because all we rely on is what operator says. This is a pure nightmare for us since our 5 y.o. son and I wait so long. With this checklist all are hopes were ruined and I feel so powerless right now. Please help me...
