* Moved from IR-1/CR-1 P&P to SSN forum. The question is about obtaining an SSN. *
A CR-1 recipient never files an I-765 as they are work authorized upon entry.
You can go to the SSA to obtain/replace an SS card if needed.
So if I apply for a job now, what number would I use?
Or if I go to SSA, how long does it take to get SS card?

Hello,
A long time ago, like 2 years ago, I did my CR-1. When I did it, I thought that I did the form I-765. I can't remember if I did it or not. I need to have my SSN to apply to university. Can I call USCIS to see if I did it or not? If not, do I just go to SSA office and do a form?
The semester start on January 11, and I'm worried that I can't apply and start classes in time.
Thanks

Hello,
I just arrived to Arizona today. My husband and I got married in my country, Korea. Do I need to get married again here? I ask because my husband called his insurance and they said I need to marry him again in America. Then he called the Arizona court, and they said we don't need to marry again, and to show the Korean marriage certificate to his insurance company.
Does all this sound right or accurate?

Go via regular visitor line at Texas Poe.. you’ll have the envelope from the interview.. give that and passport to Poe officer, they’ll take a look at it, maybe ask a question or two and stamp the passport before returning it to you... then go catch domestic flight like normal
But I got a paper that said "you do not need immigrant Visa (IV) packet. All required documents will be electronically transferred to the DHS as part of Electronically Visa Information Packet. Please submit your immigrant visa to a US DHS official at the port of entry"
Does this mean I just give my passport to the TSA agent and they stamp and I go like normal when I usually travel to US?

Hello,
I am unable to find any instructions on what to do when I get to point of entry. Do I just give my passport to someone and they give me visa?
Actually, before I get to PHX, I will layover in Texas. Is that where I do whatever I need to be able to proceed?

Hello,
My speaking and listening English is no very good since I can't use dictionary or translator. How do I make some friend? My husband doesn't have many friends these days since everyone works. Actually I don't like some of his friends.
I am from Korea, and would like to make American or Korean friends. I don't want to be lonely when my husband works.
I will live in Arizona, Phoenix. There are not many Koreans here.

Yes, you can go to any nearest SSA building to apply as soon as you land in the US.
Thanks! And usually how long after that do they send me the SSN card? What will I need to bring with me?

The SSN may be sent out within 2 weeks of being in the US if the option to automatically receive it is marked on the DS260. For some, like me, they had to go to the nearest SSA office to put in an application even though that option was chosen on the ds260. That is after waiting to receive it. It was received by me after 1 week of applying.
Green card takes a bit of time; some have been lucky to receive it within 3 weeks, while others like me, are still waiting. Been in the US since Sept 11, payment made since August 31st. That's not a cause for concern just yet since the Visa as endorsed by the CBP serves as the Green Card for one year.
Good luck on your journey to the US.
Thanks so much! Do you think I can go to SSN office to expedite the SSN?

The immigrant mistakenly registered to vote in the grocery store and even voted. It only came out when she answered yes that she registered to vote during the naturalization interview.
Hello. What reddit do you use for reading and discussing about CR1 visa or green card? Thanks

Hello all,
The visa on my passport will expire on December 12, so I will probably go to U.S. maybe December 1.
Anyways, I am wondering what are next steps after I arrive there. When do I get the green card? When do I get the SSN? Is my husband's employer able to give me health care insurance even I don't have SSN?
Thanks all

Hello,
I will probably get my passport back with the visa in it. So I have some questions, assuming that I get my passport with visa:
1. How do I get the alien number and DOS number so that I can pay the USCIS immigrant fee?
2. When do I get my green card after I arrive in the U.S.?
3. How do I get a social security number when I get to the U.S.?
Is there anything else that I need?

Hello,
My husband forgot to scan and send me a copy of his passport for my Visa interview. This is cutting it a little close, but I have an hour until my interview, and he sent me a picture of his passport via email. The line is way too long for me to go somewhere and print it, I'd lose my place in line and miss my interview. Question is: will they deny me of the interview since I don't have a copy of his passport?
Thanks

Bring ORIGINALS and copies of everything. If I've forgotten anything that should be listed, feel free to add to this anyone.
-NVC appointment date letter
-Unexpired passport valid for six (6) months beyond your intended date of entry to the United States and a photocopy of the biographic page (where your name and photo are located).
-2 passport photos (2x2)
-Medical examination results in a sealed envelope from an approved physician
-Your original birth certificate, English translation, and a photocopy.
-Your original marriage certificate, English translation, and a photocopy
-If you were previously married or your petitioner was: All original final divorce or spouse’s death certificate(s), English translation, and a photocopy.
-If your name has changed: The original court name change document and a photocopy.
-The original police certificate from your country of current residence, any countries where you lived for more than 12 months, and any country where you have been arrested. If you previously submitted a police certificate to NVC, it is more than one (1) year old, and you still live in that country, you must obtain and bring a more recent police certificate to your visa interview as the one you previously submitted will have expired.
-Confirmation page from the Form DS-260, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application, you submitted online at the ceac site.
-The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s.
-Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant (for example, photographs and letters).
Thanks

Hello,
I was looking at the INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS and the 2nd bullet point says "CONFIRMATION WITH YOUR MAILING ADDRESS AND ‘UID’ NUMBER". Where can I submit my American mailing address and what is the UID number?
Thank you

Hello all,
Is it possible to request my original I-130 from the USCIS? My husband mistakenly mailed in the original form without making copies. I am worried that I will need it for my Visa interview.
Thank you.

Lots of people print out some chat logs, others, not so much or none at all. I didn't print out any because i didn't have any, my fiance at the time used voice chat only so we didn't have any to print. It wasn't an issue. They never asked to see any of the things i brought except the original documents we uploaded to USCIS and what they requested for us to bring on the welcome letter.
Original documents from the USCIS... do you mean the original I-130? If so, that will pose a problem because my husband mistakenly sent in the original without making any copies. Do you think that he can request the originals from the USCIS? Do we even need that?

Should be fine. I printed out some tickets i had, some confirmations, and they never asked to see any of them.
Is it worth the ink and paper to print out chat logs and my name on my husband's beneficiary list?
-
Also, I have misplaced some tickets showing travel or visitation. However, I still have pictures of them and also confirmations. Will these work if I print them and bring them to the interview?

I basically had everything I had sent along with the i130, the i864, and then some more update documents for the time between submitting the i864 and the interview. Salary statements, steps taken to reestablish domicile, etc.
Edit: And the originals of everything asked for in the interview appointment letter.
Hello. Thank you for the information. What do you mean by the originals of everything asked for in the interview appointment letter? Do you mean everything submitted through the NVC CEAC step?
Thanks

Thank you

Hello.
I recently got my email to visit the hospital to do my exam. The date I was given is October 26. How long before this day should I do my medical exam? My September is very busy so I'm not sure if I can make it this month or not.
Thank you

Hello.
I forgot to make photocopy of original marriage certificate and sent to USCIS for I-130 and they approved. Am I able to request original ones from USCIS so I can bring to interview?

Maybe. After a month or so, you will know.
I'm more concerned that the OP is following very old instructions or information.
I see. So when do we get to mark the DS-260? After the NVC?

We are waiting for the first thing from the NVC after our I-130 approved. When do we get to file for the DS-230 to get the SSN. Thank you
