  1. For those who have been successful in filing their EI Claim, were you able to access or view your claim through My Service Canada? I had an update this morning that says that Claim is Finalized but, I can't view the claim because I am living outside Canada.

Also, how did you receive payments? Was it through a direct deposit to your bank in Canada?

    Thanks in advance!

    Firstly, @Min & Mark and @pdc29

Thank you both for your input. It truly means a lot to ask someone else in this process! So thank you!

We have decided to fly the beneficiary into Toronto, where her sister lives, for 1 day to do medical, End of JULY. Literally flying into Toronto in AM, leaving in PM. Bathurst doc there will allow her sister to pick up medical so it will be in family hands and overnighted to us back to Winnipeg.

Then, together we are flying into MTL (for her support, I will join) to spend the weekend and have interview Monday morning in August.

This way, as @Min & Mark pointed out, we will have medical in hands in plenty of time so we will not have to worry about that while in MTL. I highly suggest those of you that come after us devise a plan as soon as you can! As getting the medical scheduled has been the most difficult time constraint! (Traditional process has known months before you, therefore they have had time to plan their medical accordingly)

@mohsaab @vbjohn @Koalaem ,  start from the beginning and read the previous members experience with new system before you start! It will help you understand the process and any little side hiccups you may approach! All your questions above will be in the previous pages! That way you do not have to wait for anyone to reply to your question! Go back and read to answer some questions.

    Looks like a good plan!

Also, make sure that when you get the medical that the doctor signs the expiry date section. With my case, they forgot to put the expiry date on my medical assessment, which caused delay in getting my visa.

Goodluck! Hope all goes well for you! :)

    Hello all,

I have reached a difficult time in planning and was hoping that some of you would be able to offer some advice.

I called Montreal medical place this morning and he said, "With an interview date falling on Monday, August 14, you will need to have your medical done before the 8th. And the only availability I have is August 4th." This means we would have to spend a whole 10 days in Montreal justtttttt to get the medical done before the 14th. I'm not sure about you, but I don't have money to hang out in Montreal for 10 days! +flight from Winnipeg +medical fee

I have dug away a little about how hard it is to reschedule...the embassy has a generated response on the telephone when you are prompted for "immigrant visa question" which then tells you that they do not answer questions over phone and makes you go to their website about info. Which I've already been there, and seems as if this is the hardest way.

    Should I ..

    1) Book August 4th, pray they have a cancellation, and do not book a flight yet.

    2) Suck it up and spend 10 days in MTL, book flight

    3) Book medical in Toronto, fly into Toronto, wait 5 days, fly/rail to Montreal for August 14th.

Did someone say there is a train from Toronto to Montreal? @Finayyy

Or... any of your lovely ideas?

Thank you so much for any and all advice.

I know how they don't make it easy for you. I live in Alberta and I had to suck up the 10 days in Montreal. Mind you, Montreal is a very beautiful city, but it is ridiculously expensive! Anyways, I had my interview booked for July 7. I immediately called Medisys to see if I can have an appointment closer to the interview date, they only had an opening for June 29. I called a week before I booked the flight to see if they have a cancellation, but they didn't, I had to fly on June 28 because there are no flights available then for me to fly on the 29th and make it in time for my appointment. I booked an apartment on AirBnB which is close to Medisys and US Consulate which cost me more than 1k.

I did some research on what if I book the medical in Vancouver and fly to Montreal. I also tried booking a flight to Montreal to get my medical done, come back to Alberta then fly back to Montreal the day before my interview. If I took any of those routes, I would only be saving max of $200.00 which to me is not worth the sweat of flying back and forth.

And it being close to Canada Day, I know I the prices would be higher (flights and accommodation).

One of the biggest thing I think when you get there is to find an apartment or a hotel that has a kitchenette. I went to the grocery store and I cooked my meals so, I did not have to eat out every single day I was there. You know how eating out easily adds up! Also, if you don't mind finding an accommodation farther to downtown Montreal, then just take a bus to where you intend to go which might save you a bit of money. Do some research and play around with your flights and accommodation and see what fits for you. I feel that this part of the journey costs a lot of money, but at the end, it will all be worth it! Goodluck!

Just feeling discouraged waiting and waiting for a cc. :(

I know how the waiting game feels like! It is draining!!

Just sharing my experience. We submitted all our documents and AOS at NVC on March 10, 2017.I phoned NVC on May 12, 2017 to check on your case status, and said nothing had happened yet.  Called again  twice the week after and got CC. Did you call NVC and ask for status of your case recently?

Hopefully you get a good news soon!

  5. I had my medical done in Medisys Montreal and got the results on July 5. I had my interview today, and to our surprise, Medisys forgot to put the expiry date on my medical which apparently is very important. The Consular Officer said I am approved and got my Welcome to USA letter, but could not print my approval today because they need to contact Medisys for them to put the expiry date! uugghh! Unnecessary delays! I checked my visa status, and as expected it us under administrative processing. Did anybody had the same experience? How long did it take to ammend the medical result and how long did it take to have your passport back eith visa?

    Thanks!

You don't always have the choice to give it right away, but I would if you can.  It doesn't really matter which.

Thank you! It ended up that I did not need to present the i-864a for the joint sponsor's husband. The interviewer marked "meet requirements" for both i-864 from petitioner and joint sponsor. He did not ask to see the i-864a. Hopefully, they don't change their minds. fingers crossed!

Congrats for your interview date!! I wish you all the luck in the world for tomorrow :) you must be soooo excited!!

I'm also wondering about police clearance.

I am at the NVC stage where myself and my husband are ready to submit our AOS and IV packages. We are just waiting on the fees to clear - but I also still haven't received my Japanese police cert back yet. The Japanese cert can take up to 2 months and I managed to apply for it on June 13th so its been almost a month but if I don't need to I don't particularly want to wait an ADDITIONAL month before submitting our AOS and IV packets to the NVC... just seems like it will make the process so much longer especially since I will have no police record!!

I don't want to get a checklist though and since I lived in Japan with my husband for 5 years a lot of our addresses on the ds-260 will be from Japan so I assume they will be expecting to receive it...

As for you... if they don't ask to see it I assume they wont need to see it but you should take it along in case they do ask.

    Thank you!

I would think that you would need it during the NVC stage. I think it will be less of a stress for you if you submit it with your AOS, just to be sure you do not get a checklist requesting for police clearance.

I guess they did not ask for mine before because I was just over 16 when I moved to Canada. Anyways, during the interview, I ask if they would need the Polie Clearance from Philipines, and she said yes. She asked me on whether there are other countries I lived in aside from Canada and Philippines, and that was it. I gave them both my Canada and Philippines polic clearances. Good thing I did not listen to our consultant or else I would have nothing to submit today!

Goodluck on your journey! You're almost there!! 😊😊

  8. Good day! Interview date is tomorrow!

I am not originally from Canada. I moved here when I was 17. I have my police clearance from Canada which I sent to NVC, and they never asked for my police clearance from the Philippines. The person we are working with said there is not a need for me to send my NBI clearance. After reading through VJ, I second guessed what they told me.  I requested for my NBI clearance during the NVC phase thinking they would ask for me to send it but they didn't. I have both police clearances now. My question is, at the time of interview, should I present it right away when they ask for all documentsor wait for the consular officer to ask to see it?

Thank you in advance to those who are going to reply.

  9. Hi again!

    Interview date is getting near!

I have a question that has been boggling my mind. At the time of interview, do I submit the old i-864 for both the sponsor and joint sponsor or should I hand in the updated one (with immigrant's assets and i-864a from joint sponsor's husband)? Or do just wait for them to ask if I have an updated form? I am just wondering if they are going to question that the i864s would not be consistent to the ones I sent at NVC.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks!

"I also have savings and pension plan that I could withdraw "

If you can prove you have the assets, you don't need to withdraw them.

Yes. I did not say that correctly. I don't mean to withdraw it a the time of the interview. What I meant is  it could be converted to cash within a year if needed.

Do you know if I can use my owned vehicle as an asset as well?
Thank you for your reply. :)

Lots of misuse of terms here.  Each person seeking a visa will have their own visa application.  Since this forum specifically discusses the spouses and potentially step children of US citizens, each person will also have a separate petition filed on their behalf by the US Citizen.  It is correct that different joint sponsors can be used for each visa applicant if there is more than one, however only one "joint sponsor" per applicant.  If the joint sponsor is married filing a joint tax return with a spouse, it is best practice to have the spouse provide an I-864a as a household member whether they have any income at all or whether their income is needed or not.  If needed, and only if needed, other qualifying household members with income can be used (providing I-864a for each household member).

Technically, there is no absolute limit to how many people's income can be used to qualify the one and only joint sponsor, but the other people must be qualifying household members, not additional joint sponsors.

An additional note would be that if somebody at NVC told you to bring a 2015 W2 form from any sponsor, joint or otherwise, this late in 2017, you should not only have a 2016 tax return from any sponsor, but also evidence of current income, such as a current pay stub, etc.  An employed sponsor qualifies based on current income, not past tax returns.  Only a self employed sponsor would qualify based on their most recent tax return and this late in the year, that should be the 2016 return, even if they CAN file an extension.

So you are also suggesting to have the joint sponsor's husband fill out a i864a to meet the income requirement?
Thank you for your reply. :)

  12. I just want to share my experience with FCA LLC US. I have a Jeep Commander which I want to bring with me when I move to USA.

I have been reading forums before, about their horrible experience with Chrysler and how they would not issue a compliance letter.

I phone the number that was on the NHTSA site and talked to a lady who told me they don't release compliance letter. She asked me to call an  import expert broker. I did not believe what she said so, I went on to their website and did an inquiry and within hours they replied with this.

I request a compliance letter and I fax it to them on May 30th and I got the letter on June 1.

Thank you for contacting the Jeep Customer Assistance Center.

As far as NVC and USCIS go, it doesnt matter who is the joint sponsor,  as long as the  requirementa are met.. Realistically, close family members are often more willing to support than others, but it just depends on who has the means to do so.. , find your joint sponsor  where you can..

    Thank you.

If the go around the route of having the joint sponsor's husband be the other sponsor, which form does he need to fill out? another i-864?

  14. 2 hours ago, Suss&Camm said:

You are correct it is 3x the deficit for spouses - may I ask how much the joint sponsor that you got the letter for makes? The statement that a joint sponsor doesn't meet the income requirements include the scenario where enough evidence hasn't been supplied in order to prove the income - meaning that they might meet it but just didn't prove it, this is a very common feedback/rfe, and doesn't mean you need another joint sponsor, if that is the case.

    Thanks for replying.

I think she is making 22k and is filling taxes with her husband who makes over 50k.
I am working with an agent to process my visa, but I do not think they understand the difference between joint sponsor and household member. They keep saying that we should be okay because the joint sponsor is going to combine her income with the petitioner, but the joint sponsor is not a household member. With all the readings that I have done (which of course I did after we received the email, thinking the agent would know what to do), I understood that joint sponsor should be able to provide for her household (3) plus the intending immigrant (1) and should be making 125% above poverty line. With a household of 4 she did not meet the income requirement right? Only a household member can combine and make up for the deficit of the petitioner. Am I understanding it correctly? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

  15. 3 hours ago, Dee elle said:

I admit I am not a lawyer, but I am still not sure that this interpretation of the guidelines is correct... I am sticking with one joint sponsor but can use multiple of  his /her household members to meet requirements...

Do you suggest having a household member of the petitioner or household member of the joint sponsor?

Thank you for you ideas! sure helps to see what other thinks.

  16. 3 hours ago, Jojo92122 said:

There can only be one Joint Sponsor.

The JS can have more than one Household Member.

If you plan to not use a JS and rely on your assets, then you will need 5x the shortcomings.  (For example, if you need $25,000 to meet the 125% poverty line and you are short $2,000 and make only $23,000, you would need 5x $2,000 = $10,000 in assets.)  It doesn't make sense to drain your account and sell your care if you will not meet this requirement and have to go with a JS.

Thank you for your reply! 😊

I was under the impression that because I am the spouse I only need 3x the deficit. I will still use a joint sponsor. I am just thinking maybe that would seal ths deal if they see that I have enough assets as well.
