  1. It does depend on the state you're in, but I'd say once you have the marriage certificate, she would go with it to the Social Security office and they would issue a card with the new last name. Then she would go to the DMV with the new SSN card. But like said above, you would need to check the web-sites of those offices to see exactly what other documents besides the marriage certificate they would need.

  2. you need an appointment to apply for passport? we just walked in and filled out the application, except we had to go back home since we forgot we needed baby's birth cert.

It depends on the post office, I guess. I decided to go with the one close to work because I wanted to apply over lunch during a workday. This one makes appointments.

You needed your baby's birth certificate for your passport application or where you applying for hers at the same time?

  3. I wonder how the other Sep filers are doing..Have not heard much of them lately.. B)

I'm still waiting for my passport :crying: I feel like I'm back to the USCIS waiting line AGAIN !!!!! :bonk:

But other than that, everything is cool cool :) I'm trying to get used to saying that I'm American, or French-American, not just French, when people ask me, it's not as easy as I thought it would be!

    Mattr.

Oh no! I hope your passport comes back soon. I have to wait to be able to apply for the passport cause there's no avaiabilities till next Friday at the postoffice close to my work.

I haven't had to tell anyone I'm American yet. Everyone that knows me already knows. I wonder how I'd handle that one when I meet someone new.

  4. i took my oath on Friday. everything went well. thank you everybody for your guidance and support. good luck to everybody still waiting.

    congratulations vega!!! :dance::thumbs::dance::thumbs:

    Congrats vega!

Mooninlove, yes, they made us sign along the picture and also in the signature place on the certificate.

I updated my SSN and made an appointment at the post office to apply for the passport end of next week.

It feels great to be done!

DEFINITELY!! I'll sign the right corner of my photo and the signature line on the certificate. Gee, i am practicing my full signature, i'm soo used to my "JDOE" instead of JANEDOE" signature! Did you have to fill-up the SSA form, same form we use to apply one? I wonder how the other Sep filers are doing..Have not heard much of them lately.. B)

Yep, I did fill up the same exact form. I did have to wait a good bit in line at the SSA office, but once I got to the booth, the lady just looked over the application, looked at the naturalization certificate and driver's license, gave them back to me and said that I'll have my new SS card in about 2 weeks.

  6. Congratulations again!!! :D

I hope they won't be this late at the immigration office, my kids won't handle that! :D

P.S. we gonna have a little celebration on monday, i gonna make a cake. Would you guys come over? i believe you live quite close to us.

I knew Alexa wouldn't hande any wait, so that's why we didn't bring her with us. I hope you don't get to wait this long. Maybe because they had set up an apointment with the judge, this ceremony was different than a normal one in terms of start time.

PM me your address and time and we'll try to stop by if it's in the evening.

  7. My letter didn't say anything. I called and was told I can bring guests and we can take pictures.

I had 5 people come with me and there were children and a baby in the audience and nobody said anything. And this was in the courtroom with limited seating. But since there were just 40 people being sworn in, we all fit on one side of the courtroom and the guests on the other.

  8. I'm done! Yay!

So we were supposed to be there at 9.30 a.m. It took me a little longer to drive through the bad rain, park, stand in line at the pay-for-parking machine (which was verry slloooow), but I was still at the door at 9.30. All my visitors were there too, so we all stood in line to get through the security. Then we went up to the courtroom.

I signed in and they took my green card. I was worried cause I forgot my passport and everyone else in line seemed to have it, but nobody asked for it. I got to see and sign my naturalization certificate and then we were told to wait.

It wasn't even 10 a.m. and then they tell us that the ceremony doesn't start till 11 a.m.! I was okay with it, but I felt bad for my in-laws and a friend who had to go back to work. I wish I knew when the ceremony actually started, but nobody knew when I called. The friend actually left without waiting for the ceremony, but everyone else stayed around.

We had a practice round, but since it was just 40 of us in the ceremony there was nothing else to do, so we decided to go get some snacks to kill the time. Eventually 11 a.m. rolled around and the ceremony started a few minutes past then. It lasted probably 45 minutes and was quite formal. The jugde did mention though that we can clap, so we did. Since it was just 40 of us, our names got called and each of us stepped up and said our name and country and then the judge gave us the certificate and some other guests were there who handed out flags and pins.

By noon we were out and hubby, a friend and I went and had lunch together.

  10. I am having my oath ceremony at a courthouse because of the name change. Is there anything different about having it there? Can i still have guests?

It says on the letter to come at 9.30. How much later would the ceremony actually start? I am not sure what to tell the people I am inviting to attend as my guests.

What was your name change for?? maiden to married, new name to include, married to maiden name? just asking coz mine was for married name now (all paperworks are still in my old name despite the replacement of GC after i got married) and my oath is at US District Court Central District which happens to be one of the 3 places where the ceremony's gonna take place. The other 2 were at LA Convention Center and LA Fairgrounds. I signed a paper the AO printed with all the infos and new name that would be place on my certificate..

I want my maiden name as my middle name now. It is like this in SS, green card and driver's license, but they say I can't transfer it automatically when becoming a citizen, so I had to request a "legal" name change during the interview.

  11. Congrats!

Now let's start working on those oath ceremonies! So far I see that K&J has one on the 5th.

  12. I am done with my interview! Woo-hoo!

My appointment was at 8 a.m. and I went 10-15 minutes early. At 8 they started calling numbers and even though there were 4-5 people that were there before me, my number got called 10-15 minutes past 8. It was really faster than expected. I did though go over the new test one more time in the waiting room.

The lady that interviewed me was fairly nice, but still quite serious. It took her a while to look for all the necessary documents. She couldn't find our daughter's birth certificate, so she made a copy of the original I had with me. We went over the whole application, making sure everything is correct.

She did tell me though that because I was born without a middle name, I couldn't have it included automatically in my application. I told her that my green card, my SSN and my driver's license had it included without problems based on my marriage certificate (my middle name is my maiden name), but she said that they were not supposed to do that. So I had to basically apply for a name change right there. She had me signed a few documents related to that and said that the name change will happen at the oath ceremony in front of the judge.

Then she asked me which test I wanted and I told her than the new would be fine. She had me read one sentence, then write one and I then answered 6 questions - all were correct, so she stopped after 6. She congratulated me, said I passed and to wait for the oath ceremony letter - it could be in February or March - she is not sure because of the name change.

I got all my documents back and left. By 8.45 a.m. I was in my car heading to work. Yay!
