  1. nikita2charles and vivabanos,

I want to thank you both for your good-heartedness in taking the time to be kind. The only people I know who have a spouse who moved countries to be with them are on this board, and having such good people for peers is a tremendous comfort. Your compassion touched me deeply. I’m late in letting you know because I ended up joining Joy in India, and I will start a new topic to talk about the cross-cultural experience of the situation and funeral.

    Cherryxs,

I am Neopagan, Joy is agnostic, and our civil ceremony means we are married. The Hindu wedding is motivated only by social reasons: we are throwing it as a gift for his parents. The guest list and all other decisions are theirs to make. We love them and want to give them their dream of having that beautiful ceremony for all their family and friends in India, before we give them a couple of beautiful grandkids. Nonetheless, it is faintly possible that Joy may find it vaguely interesting that you are an avid advocate for the lovely Hindu temples in the US once we run out of heart wrenching conversations about the sadness and trauma of his brother's young life cut short.

    Justashooter,

you’re right about the India ten year visa being a good deal, and not difficult to get. They looked at my two prior 6 month visas and the information that my in-laws live in New Delhi, and said "OK, pick it up in 5 hours". The consulate in San Francisco has visas outsourced to an office that is open every workday. You can drop off your papers in the AM and pick up the visa in the afternoon. Or, send them in and they mail it back it in about 1 week. Even if it were a lot more difficult, knowing what I do now, I would do just about anything to keep a visa in a passport for emergency family situations.

  2. I hope I’m putting this in the most helpful place, please do move it if I have misjudged.

My husband came to the US from India on a K1 in February 2007, and we legally married that March. He now has his conditional green card and has traveled back to Delhi for a family wedding in January 2008. I did not go with him. I do not currently have a visa to travel to India because we have been trying to save money for our Hindu wedding, and we cut corners wherever we can. It was also a concern at the time that it might not be appropriate for me to join him because our US marriage is only a civil/legal one. We will not really be considered husband and wife by his family until we have the Hindu ceremony back in India and register the marriage there.

A few months ago, we managed to save enough money and announced to his family that we will have the Hindu marriage early next year. We planned to apply for a 10 year multiple entry visa in time for me to use it for that trip. But now something awful has happened. His brother died suddenly, and my husband needed to return to India immediately to take part in his funeral. Financial concerns are out the window, he needs this for his mental health. And I needed to go with him. His family will accept me now that they know we will marry properly in a few months, they may even expect me to be there and be hurt by my absence. But there was no time to arrange a visa, so he had to go alone. The thought of him traveling around the world and back with a hole in his heart, alone, grieving his brother without me to comfort him, is excruciatingly painful.

I want to advise everyone to keep a current visa for your spouse’s home country in your passport at all times. A few dollars and some paperwork can save so much pain. I don’t want something like this to happen to anyone else. Please learn from our mistake.

  3. Hey all,

Hope someone here can help me out on this one... so i just received a phone call from my sister in India that she wants to visit the US later this year. She's not looking to emigrate. She's got a good job with the UN back home in India and is financially secure. She just wants a temporary tourist visa (B visa if I'm not mistaken) .. She wants me to sponsor her to make the visa process easier and faster..I'm a conditional green card holder here for little over a year have a pretty good job here as well.. I can give her all the documents that the embassy requires ( here's what they want http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/nivbvisas.html)

So my question to the wise is, as a conditional permanent resident, can I legally sponsor a relative for a 'temporary' visit as a tourist?

Hopefully someone can help me figure out this one. So far I've not seen any information that says I can't but wanted to make sure before I sent off a little packet full of my 'progress report' back home..

    Thanks!

  4. Hello everyone, after lurking around for a bit I get the impression that not many people are getting called for interview to remove conditions. It looks like folks are filing, getting called for biometrics a month or two later, then eventually the 10 year card shows up in the mail without them doing anything else.

Is this accurate or am I grossly mistaken?

The reason I ask is that we are due to file to lift conditions in early April 2009, and had planned to take a two month vacation outside the US in July and September 2009. Is our vacation plan unreasonable? Do we need to stay nailed down here while they work on our case?

    Advice and opinions appreciated.

  5. cool. thanks, Jiji.

I have found a couple web storefronts for Indian companies with beautiful cards...

Would we have any success getting an India-based card maker to alter one of their base designs so there are two different religious symbols on the front of the card? All the interfaith samples just have no symbols at all.

Never done this before, I feel rather stupid <shrug>

  6. Hello everyone.

A full year after our civil wedding, we have finally saved enough money to return to India for our religious marriage ceremonies. We are very happy, but have a problem finding a company to make our wedding cards. We wish to have beautiful Indian style cards with handmade paper and kundan work, but we need them customized to reflect both of our religious faiths. It seemed to me that ordering from a u.s. based company would make it easier to get our special needs met, but we are having a hard time finding anyone. We would be so grateful for any advice.

    Thanks (F)

  7. I'm sure having a good month !! On 3rd July I got an email for EAD saying "card production ordered"..and today, 10th July, I get one for Application for Adjustment of Status that also says "card production ordered"..and all in this one week !! And to think my case got transfered to CSC only on 27th June..So thats just 2 weeks earlier !! I feel like

But I'm curious, All I have are these mails saying "card production ordered" For those who have been through the process already, Can someone tell me when I can expect to have the cards in hand? The mail says to expect them in 30 days but I have a suspicion it's going to be earlier..Would appreciate if someone can let me know roughly how much wait time i'm looking at? Thank You!

  8. 'Captain Planet'

Yes, we should ponder global warming, and truly, we must save the belugas. But was Captain Planet really the man for the job? In the history of kids' TV, no series has ever been more politically correct: Five child-heroes represent five major ethnicities, and they spend their days selflessly protecting the environment.

And who is responsible for pollution? Is it petroleum companies? Whaling ships? Corrupt waste-disposal programs? Of course not! Only super-villains cause pollution! And thanks to Captain Planet's limitless powers (flight, telepathy, super-strength), nobody really fears Duke Nukem and his cronies. Leave it to a sky-blue muscleman with green hair to save the world -- and teach kids, as an afterthought, to stop littering.

As much as i hate to admit I watched it too  Then I had to slap me out of it .Now I'm rehabed of Captain fookin' Planet  Sorry No offense (F)

  9. i'm fooking broke and unemployed....but that's coz my EAD hasn't reached me yet..but hey i got an approval mail on the 3rd..so as for past professions...I've been a newsletter editor, risk management officer, a personal loan sales manager and yes, bass player in 2 different rock n roll bands, keyboard player in 1, and a rhythm guitarist in 1. :)

  10. Where is.......

    Geoff Tate ..... (Queensryche)

    Bruce Dickinson

    Steven Tyler

    Sebastian Bach

There's much better Rock Vocalists out there than Freddie Mercury etc......

Been a Metalhead now for 26 years

Hmm. I'm sure there are many more out there..but "better than freddie mercury"? well that man can hit any note and has more range in his voice than some have in their instruments..although I buy that fact that there are more brilliant singers out there, but freddie's gotta be in atleast the top 5 of any list..but that's my opinion..i'm a retro rocker and will always be :)

  11. Where is....

    Steve Perry

    Robert Plant

    Stevie Nicks

...I'm sure there's a ton more that deserve recognition. How to measure who is best? Difficult task. How about the top 100?

Yup. You're right..4 names are too limited and ther are many I can think off too..But since I had these 4 dudes in my ipod at the time, I stuck em in to see..go for it..add your opinion..I'd be interested

  12. Dang ! I wanted a poll but it didn't stick..anyways..here were the options..you can choose more than one..

    1) Your partner

    2) Your Mom

    3) The Beatles

    4) Rather be alone

You can have your own options..hell its just for fun and I've got time to kill!

  13. Hey I know exactly what you mean ! I had three of em buzzing around in the washroom this morning  ..and as you might have guessed, I didn't appreciate the company ;) So I did a simple thing. I switched off the light and opened one window (which has a mesh on it)..the damn things thought it was their way out and flew on to the mesh hoping to get out..But little did they know I was sitting there waiting with a toilet cleaning brush ( Hey I just didn't have anything else in handy) .. Once they settled down a little..... :bonk: :bonk: :bonk: Problem solved !!
