If it’s 5 years it’s not marriage based - they will probably ask some questions about how you got your green card but you won’t need all the types of proof that show marital union, etc that a marriage based naturalization requires

Yes you can do it yourself if no complications

It is usually suggested you bring tax transcripts to show that you have been paying your taxes ...mostly they won’t ask for these, sometimes they do so better safe than sorry in case they do ask

    Thank you!

The citizenship application is not complicated.  I suggest you do it online as the website will list what documents it wants, and you cannot submit until it is complete, so there is less chance of missing something.  There can be problems with uploading the scans of the documents so I suggest that you place the scans in a special folder then when ready to submit upload all the documents and submit all at one time.

The 5 year citizenship application needs very few documents compared to the others.  From memory they did not ask for any financial documents for the application.  I will be bringing tax transcripts, and a few other financial documents to the interview just in case.

    Thank you!

  2. I need some suggestion.

    1. When i applied for 10 years green card, i didnt hire a lawyer. I just did everything myself as it was fairly simple. Is it possible to do it myself with the citizenship too? My case is very straight forward. Do you suggest i need a lawyer this time?

    2. For the proof documents, since i will apply based on 5 years rule, Do i need to show a lot of documents that show we are together? Or just a joint financial? (We dont have lease or mortgage. Also, we file tax separately, do i still need to have tax transcript? What do you recommend?

    Thank you

  3. Hi

I have a question about check. Do i send in 2 checks, one for the application fee and another for biometric? Or just combine them into one total?

Also, i want to file the removal myself because the lawyer wants $2,500, that's crazy!

i have looked on the form, it's very easy and not complicated at all. Should i just file it myself? My case is very straightforward.

    thanks

  4. Hi

I am new on this and really need help.

I married my husband (us citizen) a few months ago. When we did the marriage registered, the lady asked if i want to change my name, i said no. But then she suggested i fill up the form anyway which basically gives me option to change in the future easier. She confirmed it doesn't mean i have to change, just make it easier.

my question is, i do not want to change my name. i want to keep my maiden name. But somehow on the certificate has my maiden name but also states my new name at the bottom (im in California). Now i have to apply for green card. My lawyer said i need to use the new name when apply because the marriage certificate said so. Do I really?

can i use my maiden name when apply for green card? (on every single documents because i never want to change anyway)

my lawyer said they will question me in the interview why my certificate has a new name but i dont want to honor this new name on any immigration papers.

    please suggest
