Just to echo here-- if your set wedding date is October and it's in the US, you really may need to consider holding off on this. If you're going to get married in Jamaica and go for a spouse visa, then an October wedding is fine. But to try for a fiance visa with a set wedding date in mind is just setting yourself up for a lot of stress because you never know when you'll get the visa in hand and under 6 months is a very ambitious timeline.

The way to go about it if you want a fiance visa and a US wedding is to apply for the visa, get a rough estimate for when you think you'll get it. Start making calls plans/backup plans (two venues, two caterers) and then when you get visa-in-hand, hope that all of your first or second choices are all available on the same day. Remember, you've got 90 days to get married after he arrives, and just because he gets the visa doesn't mean he has to jump on the next airplane. So if you get visa-in-hand, plan a wedding for 120 days later, just wait for him to immigrate until 90 days before the planned wedding-- cool his heels in Jamaica for a month after getting the visa. If you're going to go the traditional bridal gown route, I'd get on that yesterday, though. I was planning to have a Jan/Feb wedding and by the time I picked mine out in July, it was already a rush order. I wish I was kidding.

Welcome to the site!  If you go to www.travel.state.gov and www.uscis.gov you will be able to research the K1 fiance visa and the CR1/IR1 spouse visa to decide what works best for your situation.  Our personal journey was the CR1 route.  This allowed my husband to start working immediately once coming to the states.  With the K1 you have to wait several months before obtaining proper documentation to work.  The CR1 does take longer for you and your hunny to be together but the we felt the benefit working right away out weighed the time we were apart.  I visited quite frequently during the 9 months we were apart.  I believe it is taking up to a year or a little over for approvals now.  Also, review the guides on this site.  There is a wealth of knowledge.  Also, go through the Jamaican forum and read the posts.  You will get firsthand info from those of us who has been through this with the Jamaican embassy.  Best wishes to you on your journey!
