  1. I need help on choosing the correct I-864 for my situation. I have been a student living at home with both my mom and dad. I'm currently doing a paid externship but the income does not meet the income requirements for me to file alone. My parents are willing to help in any way they can, but I don't want to make them jump through all the hoops I have to for this visa... they're older and not computer savvy haha...

So my question is... should I file the I-864 and, let's say, have my mom file an I-864A to boost my income. Or just file 2 separate I-864's between me an my mom?  Also my parents joint file their taxes yearly. So the other route I think is I file I-864, my mom also files I-864, and my dad would file I-864A.... but that seems like a lot of paperwork on their end... I'm just trying to make it easy but more so want to do things correctly.

Congrats!! We have the same NOA2 approval date. I called NVC today (just trying my luck 🤗) but they have not received my case yet. I know it could take a few weeks or maybe more. Please update us when NVC receive yours. Thanks!

Yes I will update it... I'm going to give it about 2 weeks from the NOA2 date before I start calling them :)

  3. Congrats on all the approvals so far!!!

I got so excited myself that I called and spoke to a tier 2 officer. This man did not want to answer any questions and just kept repeating the same thing to me... it felt like a "don't call us. we'll call you!" situation.  He irritated my soul! Haha

I wonder if they aren't even allowed to let you know case status details, approvals  or otherwise over the phone?

In any case, you all are giving the rest of us hope that our approval is coming soon... so thanks for the updates :D

I think I might've made a mistake on our I-130...on page 8, question 62a it asks if the beneficiary will be applying from abroad at a U.S. Consulate or embassy...I thought that meant as in Direct Consular Filing (which you can't do in Turkey) so I put "n/a". I think I was supposed to put Ankara! Ugh, I hope this doesn't cause any issues...I know I have a while to find out, but now I'm worried about this.

I just looked at a copy of my I-130 and yea I put Ankara there. Praying this doesn't cause an RFE for you.

After doing a lot of research tonight I see that my dad & I each have to fill out the I-864 & my mom will have to fill out the I-864a since they file jointly. I'll submit their last 3 years of tax return transcripts along with just one year of mine (2016). Better for me to be safe & include the joint sponsor now! The USCIS has the forms on their website so you can see what info you will need, along with detailed instructions on how to fill out the form, so I'm feeling a little better lol. If you can get to the U.S. & lock down a job, you can have your employer provide a letter stating your employment & salary...that would help...but that's great that you have the sponsor...that will be more important I think. Good luck to you as well, we're all in this together! :)

That's exactly what I'm doing with my financials. I've been in school so I don't meet the income requirements. Having my dad be joint with him filing the I-864 and mom filing I-864a. I've also sat and researched and mapped out the plan...i want everything to be ready to mail out or scan and email the DAY they ask for it... already had my husband get his police records, etc. They're good for one year so if the time is past that he can just get them again. Also I'm following the advise of calling the NVC throughout the process... I'm already tired of waiting haha!

I tried for the first time today to check the status and am getting the same "invalid" message, so frustrating! Good that you called for peace of mind...hopefully they will enter ours soon!

Yea i understand the frustration for sure. I was hoping that by calling it would prompt them to at least validate my receipt number but I just checked again and it's still invalid.

And @ASMS the lady I spoke with said everything with my petition seems ok so far and was able to see all of my information. So I'm holding onto that for peace of mind.

  7. Just an update...i called USCIS to find out why my receipt number is still showing invalid.  The lady was able to see all of my information but just told me they're "backed up". She also told me that I would be looking at September as the earliest approval time, saying that they are just now processing September of 2016 petitions.  I know just by the updated information by visajourney users that this is not quite correct, but I think that they have to tell you longer  than expected wait times so that you don't call them back so much about it haha.

You got your case receipt number from your NOA1 letter or text/email? Sometimes it happens that it takes a few weeks before the cases become "active" on the online tool. Just have patience :-)

The receipt number was the same on the email, text and NOA1. I understand being patient, or trying to be haha,  but it's just concerning because all of the other April filers have been able to view their cases online... even the Nebraska people

  9. My I-130 was received by the USCIS on April 20th. Recently I have tried to view my case status online but the receipt number is showing "invalid". Yes i entered it correctly and even tried to create a user account on the website and reenter my receipt number... still invalid. I called them yesterday but they were closed and i will have to wait until Monday to speak to someone. It is going through TSC. Has anyone else had this problem?  Here's the screen shot...

I also tried to "ask Emma" the online chat support and it said this...

I just want to ease my mind since I'm having to wait the weekend to call them back.

  10. @ASMS yea I've tried several times to retype my receipt number. And I think like you do. I mean I tried to create a user on the USCIS site... nothing helps. But I'm hoping that it just means progress and not some dumb dumb who didn't enter my info over there in Texas haha! I think I'm going to post this question on the main forum and see if anyone else had this happen...i need to ease my mind!

  11.

Mine still said received, only that.

how does it shows that to you? in the status says "going through background checkin"?

all our cases will cross that point, some cases get extra scrutiny, but besides of calling USCIS and talking with them, idk what other way we could know when they touch our cases for that.

No it just says this. I tried to call but can't talk to a rep until Monday. I asked "Emma" who is that online computer chat and it said this...

So... hooray for waiting until Monday
