No. I'm saying that if the SSA has outdated information and you state that you are a US citizen on the FAFSA application form, there may be delays in processing the loan, which can in turn mess with various deadlines.

N400 petition was "recommended for approval" today. Since I'm on the cusp of Nov/Dec, I'll double post:

They already had copies of my photos. I did not apply under the 5-year rule, though I qualified. The IO changed my application to be considered under the 5-year rule, and waived all the  supporting docs that I had lugged for showing a bonafide marriage. I fessed up to some changes & mistakes that needed to be addressed immediately after being sworn in and before the questioning started. Namely:

• - I had neglected to include traffic tickets (I had all the documentation for tickets dating back all the way to 2003). None were alcohol related or involved injuries to anyone, so he did not seem too concerned. Also, my last one was more than 5 years ago. I had 7 moving and parking violations over the last 15 years (10 years really), and he only cared to document ones from the last 10.
• - After sending in my application, I made a sizeable donation to the ACLU and thus became a card-carrying member. So my "membership in organizations" was updated. He joked (maybe?) that "hey, they're not yet a blacklisted organization"
• - I switched jobs in 2016: resigned the old job on a Friday and joined the next on the following Monday, and said that I didn't care to take up the additional space just to label a single weekend as "unemployed". He did not seem concerned about that either.

Reading: Who was the first President of the United States?

Writing: George Washington was the first President of the country.

He did make corrections to information about my parents, even though neither is a US citizen and that section does not apply to me. Something about a lot of applicants not realizing that they may already be citizens by transfer from naturalized parents.

We went through all the 50 questions, but he paraphrased almost all of them when asking me to restate my answers, and sometimes combined multiple questions in the form into a single spoken one. I feel that this part seems to have deviated from others' experiences. Anyway, no issues came up.

I had to sign and acknowledge the corrections made to the application form & got my copy with his signature on the approval page. Copies were made for my traffic tickets and court dispositions of the fines, and I was out of there after some small talk.

Other stuff I noticed:

There were two people ahead of me with their attorneys that were not recommended for approval. Based on conversations held within earshot, probably because they didn't get 6 questions right on the civics test. If you happen to be on this forum: good luck for round two. I know it can be hard to find time to prep. The IO mentioned that they allow for some leeway in the answers and even consult alternate sources if the answers are exactly what's in the civics guide. He said that they only have so much wiggle room.

I asked for if it was possible to expedite the oath ceremony, since I want to travel out of the country in June to see family and need some buffer time for the passport etc. He said he would make a note of my request, and that Pittsburgh holds oath ceremonies at least every week and sometimes twice in a week.

If you've only ever filed a 1040A, or 1040-EZ for federal taxes, I think you can safely answer that you have never claimed to be a NON-resident.

AFAIK, people on student visas or certain work permits, file a 1040-NR or 1040-NR-EZ (NR for non-resident) and the calculation of tax rates may vary. The US has tax forgiveness treaties for non-resident aliens of certain countries, while certain types of visas exempt the filer from paying SS or Medicare taxes.

They want to make sure that you have not taken advantage of these tax breaks since the time you received your green card.

Don't forget to make sure that the Soc Security Admin has the updated info that your stepson is now a citizen. It will affect his ability to obtain federal college loans if he is not.

My nephew is going through that process right now, and already had his passport for several years. But he had to go to the SSA office in person and set the record straight before he was eligible for FAFSA.

It certainly is the first time I hearing about something like this. Have you by any chance also applied for an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card for yourself?

I would think that this is either unrelated to the N400 petition, or your wife may be in the unfortunate position of sharing a name with someone that happens to be on the FBI radar. Let it play out. If the application ends up being stuck without any progress, you can always schedule an Infopass appointment to see if there is any additional documentation/evidence you can submit.

The feds are certainly not going to comment one way or another if they did in fact contact law enforcement in India in relation to your wife's petition.
