DGTB got a reaction from casualuser in N-400 - March 2017 Filers
Hi all , glad to make this final update. Just got sworn in as a U.S. Citizen. After my interview on the 14th , I went inline for oath on the 28th ,got the oath letter mailed notification on the 1st and received the oath letter on the 5th. This site has been great for tracking the whole process and would like to thank everyone for your contribution. For those who are not done yet, hang in there, I am positive that you will be done very soon. Now off to the post office I go.

...well I changed PCs and chrome is not cooperating with the RTF format, please update my info to oath on 9/12.

DGTB reacted to pieguy in N-400 September 2016 Filers
    Hi @DGTB

That is correct. It seems DC may be a bit slower than some other states. The standard seems like it's 6 months but DC seems a bit more backed up, especially in scheduling oaths. Probably because they do it only once a month and the courtroom may not be that big. States that have multiple dates or multiple venues may be able to accommodate people faster.

As I mentioned, I did my interview on Saturday, March 18, and it happens that I fedexed my application on Sunday, September 18, so if I'd gotten same day oath it would have been EXACTLY 6 months for me. I would have my passport at least a month ago by now!

But yes, if you're a DC resident, be prepared to wait 9 months. I see you're a March 2017 filer so hopefully you finish the process by December 2017.

    Good luck !

DGTB got a reaction from Joe&LuMa in stuck in inline for an interview?n400
That's a good point, but perhaps they already had a relatively up to date info on your background and therefore did not need a more rigorous check? I have seen quite a few on this board that got to the inline stage within 2-3 days, mine took 9 days, others take way longer, but once they are inline, their PD kicks in and are then queued inline for the actual interview according to their PD rather than the date they became inline. In any event, my assumption on the "bulk of the background check" comes from what they tell us in the "Initial Review Stage" below which comes before the "Testing and Interview stage" that includes being "inline":

The only other place that I have seen the topic of background checks being covered is here : https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartB-Chapter2.html .

Other than that , all I can tell you is best of luck, hopefully you will get your notice soon, i am not sure what the average wait times are in your F.O, but in mine, they are 3-4 months after F.P .

According to their official description, the bulk of the background check on an applicant seems to be done before getting into the inline for interview stage, however it does say :
How I would interpret the above would be that while the case load at the field office may not completely determine when your number comes up, as there may be other factors that could cause the delay, for most applicants, the case load would be the primary factor. I have no idea what those reasons other than the caseload that could cause a delay maybe, and I would be cautious of accepting any other interpretations at face value, unless of course it is from an employee, just my two cents.

DISCLAIMER: I have only been inline for 1.5 months and my opinion may change as I wait longer and paranoia sets in

Thanks a bunch @spottymax, I have been looking for all the processing times together on one spot as you have done, useful to see how one's field office may fair relative to others and then compare to the actual processing times users report on this site. I have sorted and attached below the total processing days from the fastest F.O. to the slowest for the most recent batch (2/28/17) , good to see my F.O. is getting a little faster, albeit, very incrementally . Thanks again for this.
